It's been a couple of years since I've been playing pinball now and the biggest thing that aggravates me is my inconsistency. My high scores are getting better, but unfortunately my scores are also all over the place.

So I was wondering and thought it'd be fun to see how consistent you guys are. Pick a game of yours, play ten in a row, and then post your scores. This isn't a competition for highest scores, this is more about consistency.

The way I'm going to do it is just write my score in this preview box after each game until I have ten scores, and then post.

First game is Firepower (5 ball):

1. 107,900
2. 437,800
3. 334,550 (pretty much all ball 5)
4. 104,650
5. 681,400
6. 76,600 (WTF!)
7. 217,800
8. 113,450
9. 105,700
10. 633,500 (At least I ended well.)

MEDIAN: 165,625
AVERAGE: 281,235
HIGHEST: 681,400
LOWEST: 76,600
STANDARD DEVIATION: 230378
CV = 82% <-----good number to compare with each other

*******************************************
EDIT: I've added a couple of numbers to my original post to help determine consistency and help keep track if my numbers are improving as I do ten game banks or not. (If I'm wrong in the following explanations, feel free to correct me.)

MEDIAN: The higher number, the better when comparing to your other attempts on the same game. This number is your two middle results (5 and 6 if playing ten games) divided by 2. I like this number because over time it can show if you are getting better scores, even if your average drops. My second Firepower results in this thread had my median go up, but my average dropped because I didn't have as good a high scores as the first time through, but my scores were more consistent.

STANDARD DEVIATION: The lower the number, the better when comparing to your other attempts on the same game. When this number goes down, it means your scores are more consistent. I used an online calculator for this. If we take this one step further, we can compare results to each other (or even your own consistency across different games) by calculating CV. (Explained below)

CV = is coefficient of variance: The lower the number, the more consistent your scores are. After doing some research on the Internet and talking with one of my friends whom I consider very intelligent, I feel this is a good number to help compare the results of everyone who participates in this thread since we're all playing on different machines with different rule sets, conditions, have different skill levels, etc. My purpose of this thread was to see how I compared to everyone else where it came to how inconsistent my scores are. This should help illustrate that. For those like me who don't know how to find CV

CV = Standard Deviation/Average Score

AVERAGE: Everyone knows this one, but in the off chance you don't it's the average score of your ten game run. Calculated by adding all ten scores together and then dividing by ten.

HIGHEST: Your highest score in the ten game run.

LOWEST: Your lowest score in the ten game run.

Have you seen my scores? When I start rolling the scoreboard, I'll take it back down to 3. I actually have it on 5 because ofLeonor Varela too many drains before I'm able to flip once.

My first ball is very consistent, mostly because if isn't it ends prematurely... So weird.

I am really surprised with all the " pin clubs" here that people don't post and or have some competitions like this the ten raw games and with certain settings of 3/5 ex ball or none etc.
I brought it up once but no one seemed that interested.
I guess they would rather be posting lawyer talk. Duck

#11 8 years ago

3 games to go for me then I need to get things done outside of pinball. Lol

The Getaway: High Speed 2 (3-ball)

Ok, I too feel my inconsistency is poor so thought Id give it a try. The game is Metallica pro, which for some reason seems to play hardest of any others I play. Here are my results

1. 8,482,890 (Bad start)
2. 5,062,740 (even worse, got screwed with a bad sparky throwback and wicked outlines)
3. 7,548,940
4. 49,022,040 (first game with a multiball, got 1 crank it up started and was 1shot away from Coffin)
5. 21,854,910
6. 31,372,770
7. 2,487,470 (bad first two balls and got thrown a house ball on a ball save)
8. 72,155,750(had a good coffin/electric chair stack. Had crank it up lit but didn't start it)
9. 29,814,130
10. 3,115,603 (damn out lanes got me again)

So basically all over the board. Metallica might not be the best to try though as it can be pretty brutal on the outlines.

Doctor Who. 10 games in a row; 3 balls / game, no extra ball - did not note the last 3 digits:
272,623,000
644,166,000
598,994,000
113,169,000
21,264,000 (ouch)

Demolition Man (3-ball):

1. 182,590,380
2. 391,854,460
3. 435,657,250
4. 206,913,750
5. 417,798,260
6. 245,969,270
7. 79,099,490 (this game can go f@#! itself)
8. 411,280,510
9. 338,754,360
10. 448,984,150

MEDIAN: 365,304,410

HIGHEST: 448,984150
LOWEST: 79,099,490
STANDARD DEVIATION: 128,426,171
CV = 41%

These scores are actually consistent. The other thing that is consistent? I wanted to flip the machine on its side every game.

#15 8 years ago

Why do some people look down on 5 ball?

I say your machine, your rules.

It's no different when one selects a difficulty level on Madden.

#16 8 years ago

Ok one more game to try, I'm usually fairly consistent on TAF other than the whole no ball save thing which can hurt you sometimes really quick. Clearcoated lightning fast play field with Gold roms and replay/extra ball set at 100 million

1. 25,259,390 (slow down thing, you just lost my ball)
2. 248,796,720 (really good game for me but had 1 room left until tour was lit and had the bonus in one more ramp and the chair lit and couldn't hit either for what seemed like an eternity. So close)
3. 237,323,010 (3 double jackpots on thing multiball on ball 3. That's a first for me)
4. 33,609,100 ( the power got me this time)
5. 28,332,960 ( didn't start one room, grrr)
6. 29,178,820 (starting to be consistently bad lol)
7. 200,968,690
8. 10,355,210 (two instant drains after skill shot followed by a almost as bad ball 3)
9. 46,742,160
10. 21,884,520

#17 8 years ago

Last game for me today.

Bride of Pinbot (3-ball):

1. 10,124,450
2. 5,327,340
3. 1,733,780
4. 5,156,770
5. 995,430
6. 11,196,390
7. 5,478,800
8. 2,888,890
9. 1,193,000
10. 609,770 (flipped the ball twice)

MEDIAN: 4,022,830
AVERAGE: 4,470,462
HIGHEST: 11,196,390
LOWEST: 609,770
STANDARD DEVIATION: 3,758,561
CV = 84%
Can't believe I went through 60 games.

I actually started track my scores about a month ago. I've been using Loggr on iphone. I highly recommend it and it is free:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/loggr-graph-your-life/id803317594?mt=8

It gives you an easy way to track your scores, graphs the results overtime, and calculates a number of interesting statistics.

I don't really look down on it but three ball is what I grew up knowing.
Some titles have different changes so play them both.
Of course 3 ball games can turn into a 5 ball game if you get the extra ball replay score or special.
But 5 ball game turning into a 7 or more that just seems silly and fewer games played in a evening with friends.
It is weird I almost distinctly remember the change with the electronic games and felt a little cheated(as a paying customer). Just like the change from dime to quarter. Or 2/.25
The store near my house had a section with maybe 8-10 machines. As a kid with fifty cents you would try to choice wisely as there were pricing differences. I guess the newer game would cost the most and the others they would give you deals.

Does anyone know of a Loggr equivalent for Android? It would be nice to be able to keep in-depth score data so easily.

10 games on Funhouse, 3 ball.

3325140
3849740
5883940
2028370
2365700
15626710
1191710
3694100
1869120
5092090

So I set a new high score with the 15 mil game. I also got my first "Big Sausage" bonus as well. I had an adrenaline dump after that and didn't focus as well, so my scores varied alot at the end.

#26 8 years ago

Nice score!

#27 8 years ago

Ok last one for today. BSD actually put my highest score ever up on game 4. Not the Grand Champion, but that was put up by a real good player during practice at a tournament I brought the game to which was a golf format and set to 5 ball. So technically GC on 3 ball. Lol

So far what I'm seeing is that inconsistency is pretty normal and I actually feel better about it. Obviously I'm still going to try and improve, but I guess that physics thing really makes this game what it is.

When you start Supercharger mode, just trap up and time it out. It's not worth playing so fast for the amount of points on the table. You're better off just waiting for it to end, then making progress toward Red Line Mania which is far more lucrative.

WHAT?!? No way. Keep launching it at the turbocharger for multiples of 5 million. It's soooo worth it.

Inconsistency is what I love about pinball.

I can go from having my best score ever on a machine, to the next game looking like I've never played pinball before.

I've been keeping a log like this for some time. I'll post some of my games that I've logged in the past. Consistency(or lack thereof) is what really pays off in league and tourneys. You will ALWAYS have that one stinker of a game, and that one blowout game. But those good medium/solid scores are what you strive for.

My problem is more about the instant drain. Hitting an upper loop and when it's the fourth loop, insta drain down the middle. Or when the outside loop is the fourth, slingshot to outlane. I can hit those loops normally and be fine most of the time, but when it's the last loop that starts Supercharger mode, insta drain. It really is amazing.

I did 60 straight just because I was curious of my results on all of my machines. Thank god I have a small collection. OCD much? Sometimes yes.

I gave this a go on my Metallica premium. And wow, was I inconsistent. I mean, I knew there'd be a little variance, as I usually try to set everything up before going for big points. But these results were even more sporadic than anticipated:

1) 2,988,470 (ugh...way to start strong...)
2) 9,478,990
3)126,216,420
4) 6,249,300

I gave this a go on my Metallica premium. And wow, was I inconsistent. I mean, I knew there'd be a little variance, as I usually try to set everything up before going for big points. But these results were even more sporadic than anticipated:
1) 2,988,470 (ugh...way to start strong...)
2) 9,478,990
3)126,216,420
4) 6,249,300
5)206,693,480
6) 21,507,440
7) 58,120,580
4,799,880
9) 4,297,740
10) 6,661,780
Looks like I need to practice...

126 and 206 are awesome scores. And that's one thing that frustrates me. When I'm able to have a good score (not that good) I feel like I should be able to do that more often. I'd like the good scores to be the rule instead of the exception. But seeing all of the variances here is getting be realize I'm far from alone.

Thanks. I watched Bowen's video yesterday and figured out more of the rules. I was putting up scores around 100 mil pretty consistently last night so I came into this little experiment pretty overconfident. Of course I end up with 6 of 10 games not even making into the first multiball.

My best scores on the most recent code have all resulted from patiently setting everything up. Hit the four main targets a ton and get everything ready for multiball. Then start coffin and try to stack into everything else. Get a ball into the snake whenever possible for double scoring. And then do crank it up once you are back to single ball.

Scoring in crank it up modes is so huge. I had a 50 mil shot into the scoop in one of those games and could have gambled for more, as there were around three minutes left on the clock.

This game is great. The only drawback I see is that it's resulting in a lot of dust piling up on my other machines...

So I've done two more runs of ten games on Metallica Premium. I started thinking about 10 games/consistency and it dawned on me to ck one other important element. What is my average score for the ten games? So I've included that as well.

Met Premium
250,086,000
186,004,000
125,307,000
24,767,000
7,323,000
22,535,000
15,352,000
46,323,000
20,240,000
192,314,000

Avg. score = 89,025,000

Met Premium
19,919,000
97,088,000
35,160,000
48,381,000
134,355,000
81,914,000
9,962,000
30,426,000
37,206,000
10,345,000

Avg. score = 50,475,000

Of course, now I have a new goal. Play 10 on Met Pre. and average over 100M!

Quoted from Doot77:

Ok last one for today. BSD actually put my highest score ever up on game 4. Not the Grand Champion, but that was put up by a real good player during practice at a tournament I brought the game to which was a golf format and set to 5 ball. So technically GC on 3 ball. Lol
1. 16,481,160
2. 133,357,660
3. 372,927,120
4. 2,073,037,490
5. 14,984,540
6. 79,855,910
7. 13,006,450
8. 148,264,840
9. 169,911,800
10. 33,148,160

Oh BSD, what other game has a range from 13M to 2B??
