Hockey and especially soccer need to learn from the Americans and change rules to make the game more exciting. One simple change would make soccer much more exciting: no off-sides whatsoever. Just like basketball. Also, the technology exists to start and stop the clock so people know when a half will end! Break the game into 4 shorter quarts, allow timeouts and more substitutions. Discourage players resting on the field and make the game more exciting. Unless the average team can score at least 5 goals a game, soccer will continue to suck donkeys.
Funny thing; I asked a soccer fan why the announcers always make such a huge deal out of yelling GOAL! over and over when there is a score. He said basically people don't actually watch the games when they have them on TV. They hear the yelling and come in from the other room and watch ten minutes of replays and then go back to what they were doing before.
