Houdini vs MMR which would you buy?

Pros -

Houdini is new, different and exciting.

MMR with color is a known and is ranked #1.

Cons - both have only 2 flippers.

Houdini has tight shots.

MM previously owned one and still own AFM.

#2 6 years ago

I would probably go with MMR...I like the shots, also the humor is great. Besides, it's a classic. Houdini is loaded and it has great rules but IMHO Balcer has been less than stellar in the design dept.

Have you played Houdini?

I've played it a lot at this point.

The only reason I keep playing is to try and take down the GC. The game looks good, but that's about all I like about it.

The play before you buy mantra is always awesome advice, but I think it's especially important here. Houdini is just another new game at this point to me. I think it's a good first effort from the company, but I don't think it's fun to play.

I think MMR is the far superior game.

I tend to be in the wait and see how the game progresses camp before making the decision on Houdini. I've thrown down on too many games in the hype period only to be left disappointed.

Houdini,

Love the theme, love the looks and price is not hateful.

Mmr by a mile. Houdini jury still out

Is this serious? MM/MMR is ranked #1, supported by its long history and even with all the gaming crap of Pinside ratings. Houdini will definitely have its fans, but it's far too early to judge significantly. I see merit and appeal to both games. Long live variety . Cheers!

Very few will ever compare to MM or MMr whatever. Just a home run title no matter which era version you wish for and Always fun to play.

MMR all the way.

Would have to play Houdini before I can have an opinion. Would assume the majority of folks on here have not played Houdini.

Have you played it?

I’ve played both, probably 20 games on Houdini, and have owned 3 MMs and one MMr. Houdini is amazing as a first pin from a new company. But MM is the from the peak of Williams and remains the king of flow, of humor, and fun. MMr is just as exceptional.

I love both games and it's close. MM is a charming and fun game. It's also been around for a long time. For me, Houdini was more appealing. Houdini is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. But for me, it was a complete, modern machine with a lot of value for the money. Art is stunning. I love the theme. Rules are clever and deep. You'll find it more challenging than MM.

I'm a fan of both at this point. I've only got about 20 plays on Houdini so far, so that may change.

MMR is pure greatness. The game has it all including quirky humor, something that is missing on most modern pins.

I agree that it's early too early to tell how Houdini will shake out. MMR is my easy first choice now but it would probably be best to delay decision six months and to actually play Houdini first.
