Houdini, tough game but worth it.
Practice makes perfect.
You want a fast flow that takes your pictures for an extra 2300, go for it. For that price the new Nikon DSLR at 1300 costco is a better camera.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

All depends on what you are looking for in a game. If you are enthralled by the Houdini theme, or captivated by the art package, sound, or animations and don't care about gameplay, it's a no-brainer to pick Houdini.

There's reasons for some not to want a Dialed in but gameplay/layout are certainly not among them.

You forgot one thing in your back handed opinion.
Houdini is fun to play with tough shots, but yes, the rest of the package is very nice to.
DI is also a great package by the master, but a completly different game.
Both are great. But apples and oranges.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I didn't forget anything in my opinion. My opinion is it's a terrible game to play, so if you want to buy one you should like other things about the game besides gameplay.

Luckily, I like the game, game play and looks.
So win win for me.
But Levi, what confuses me is your desire to bash the game?
You dont own it. Cant say how many times you've played it.
Your entilted to your opinion, and so am I.
But.....your wrong.

Quoted from Whysnow:

100% spot on.
If the OP likes to play pinball, DI is the only choice.
If the OP is concerned more about theme then Houdini is pretty to look at but geometry is one of the worst modern pins made. Shame because from what I can tell the code is pretty cool.

Hilton, your wrong to.
Fun game, hard, challenging.
If you want to collect sim cards, have your picture taken, and hit ramps repeatedly. Play DI.

I like a lot of the people here and would like to protect them from laying out $7,000 on a turd?
I'm an obnoxious blowhard?
I'm answering the exact question posed by the title and content of this thread?
I just don't like magic?
I think whitewoods are important and would like to see them remain an integral part of playfield design?
I'm on pinside offering an opinion which hundreds of people do here every day?
Pick one. They are all legit reasons.

How many times have you played it to form such a confident objective opinion?

Here's where it gets stupid.
How many questions like this will I have to answer before I am allowed to have an opinion on this game?

So you really havent played it?
Maybe only a handful on location at show?
Levi?
Im really trying to help you here and undersrand....but now your opinion raises interesting logic in opinions.
I havent driven a Ferrari yet, but they suck!

Desire to bash the game? The op requested opinions! I agree 100% with Levi: the game has flawed design. It's that simple. It's not a bash; it's an opinion. And for the record, if he's outright wrong, so is everyone else in this thread, including you.
PS. I've played it for a couple hours.

For some reason you said that much better than levi. IMO
We all have opinions, just like farts, some just smell worse than others.

Quoted from TheLaw:

Houdini is the clear choice.
For people that sell Houdini mods eh eric?

Funny, nice point.
I have about 900 plays on my Houdini, and full time access to Dialed In with about 100 plays. I actully like both games for different reasons.
My mod came to be because I like the game so much and wanted to make a fun good looking project.

You aren’t trying to understand. You are trying to be obnoxious, and succeeding.

With your opinion, why wont you answer the question? How many times have you played Houdini, not that hard of question?
Sorry you feel threatend by your answer.
You have the right to take the 5th.
I actually thought it was you becoming obnoxious.
Agree to disagree.

#120 5 years ago

Well said Hilton.
Thanks for your opinion.

#130 5 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I’ve played this shitty game 163 times.

Thanks for letting me know. Now I can respect your opinion a little more. Still disagree, but we covered that.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Is that enough for you? Any other stupid questions?

Once again thats a matter of opinion.
Good thing I dont give a shit what people think. But man, you sure do.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Looking forward to your brilliant follow up.

Wow, you sure are on your high horse today. Seen it before, at least your passionate about your opinions.
It's the general negativity you expel on all topics i find displeasing sometimes Levi.
Not always, but when you go off, you keep it flowing.
I wish you no ill will.
If you go to expo or Tpf, love to buy you a beer.

Cool kids, blow hards, ambitious addement posting frenzy of " I really know whats best".

Ill just drop my vote again here...in pictures.

Quoted from rai:

Got a chance to play Houdini today and to be honest it felt flat to me. It was well built and seems to have great code and toys, but overall just didn't do it for me. I did think the shots were too tight, I am not a bad player, I played Earth shaker for the first time maybe ever and I was hitting everything in sight. I played Alien and was able to hit most shots. Houdini was almost as if I did make any shot it was more pure luck than anything else.
Overall not a game I would pick for game room. I do love hard pins like TWD but that game (TWD) is just all action and balls to the wall and Houdini seems just a mess, meaning it's hard because the shots don't work.

Houdini does admittedly take about 5-10 games to catch the fell. After that it becomes amazing. I hate to compare, but closest in comparison is Woz.

#283 5 years ago
Quoted from jkleinnd:

Some home purchasers have turned around and sold theirs quickly. What's going on there?

Some people want a game that they hit things fast, ramp, ramp, combo, center shot.....Geez Im good.
Some people want a challenge, ramp, scoop, stage, mod, that is Houdini...you have to earn it.
Houdini is no stern either in build or gameplay. This game is rewarding on many levels above a stern. Easy No, Hard No, with practice the game play is amazing something hard to find in todays releases. I still say my best comparison is WOZ, however this has a completely different feel than woz and is an amazing game.

Quoted from Whysnow:

I think the inverse is the reality. DI was a very slow sell at the onset and the rankings graph over time mimics that. Reality is that DI has won the hearts and money of so many over time because it is a great game (despite the theme). People are not defending it because they own it, nor voting for it in the poll because they own it. They are voting cause the game is obviously far better than Houdini for the majority of people.
Proportionally to how poorly it is viewed correlates to how many it has sold and many of them appear to constantly be on the secondary for resale. Different strokes for different folks, but 3 out of every 4 pinsiders would apparently take Di over Houdini (I assume even with the extra cost since the secondary is holding on that title)

Really?, you dont own either. Your Love for DI is overblown. There both good games, the comparision is not realistic.
Addams versus Dialed in would be a better debate.
Edit; My opinion was suggestive reading into Hiltons motives, I apologize.
I repeat, both good games. The few that have both games opinion's has been stated.

#319 5 years ago
Quoted from bobukcat:

if A.P. had never made it public that they didn't do a whitewood no one would be on here chirping

Well, technically they do a table with catapult design for trunk and ramp....the rest was done on CAD.

#340 5 years ago

I love Dialed In!
I LOVE Houdini!
Both great games, they are not a fair comparison. (Period)!

It's never ceases to be humorous as to how bad the high scorers' selfies look while posted in attract mode.

The worst camera angle ever. Catches all bad double chins, bad hair and nostral hairs. Lol

#372 5 years ago
Quoted from Whysnow:

As I said, I think we will see Houdini continue down to SternPro price range on the secondary.

Houdini is leaps and bounds above stern pros, both in quilty and execution. No, Houdini will not fall below 5k.

#373 5 years ago
Quoted from ThePinballCo-op:

Then the game showed up. It's built solid, no expense was spared.

DI is a great game. Ive said it before, Houdini and DI are 2 different animals.

#380 5 years ago
Quoted from RTS:

Are you just trying to rub it in the face of all the DI owners that Houdini is not only a better, game but it's also a better price?
Uncool.

He is. Its what he does. Making Friends on pinside.
