I just picked uop a Gottlieb/Premier 1989 Hot Shots Sys 80B machine.

I played several games after getting it set-up. Came in the next day, to remove the mylar which was lifting the inserts. cleaned everything up, reset the inserts, cleaned again. Played two games, shut it down.

Came in next morning, turned the machine on, booted fine, went into attached, I added credits, hit start and the game immediately gave a long beep and went back into attract mode. Tried again same issue. Turned the machine off, this time the display was garbage and when I went to add a credit it beeped again and went back into attract (voice came on at the interval). Shut it down again, check connectors etc, turned it back on, the machine beeps for 1-2 seconds waits 5 seconds and beeps again. The attract lights are working and the alpha display is working. I turned it off and left it.

I am assuming it is connector issues or power supply but wanted to gather some advice before proceeding.

I checked the connectors and did not find any issues. though, now it no longer goes into attract, or displays light, it is just the GI lights and beeps (it always gets worse before it gets better, right?)

Monday or Tuesday when I am back in I am going to pull the boards and see about reflowing some pins etc and I will take a second and more serious look at the connectors.

These boards look like they have some mods done to them already, and they need to be remounted better as it looks like the mounts are mostly all broken. I don't have the schematics yet, what would be my higher priorities to check first? I did notice the battery was already replaced, the new one says it is a lithium, should I be concerned with this?

Fixed, I feel oh so silly, because it was so simple. The driver board needed remounted, it was causing the interconnect to come loose. I cleaned the contacts on the boards and checked all the connectors. I need to work on getting the flour scent light out of the back box and add some balanced LEDs to keep things cool and to make sure the interconnect does not get knocked out again.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!!!

I like popcorn, but I think I would either always be hungry or want to throw-up if I had a popcorn scented machine....

I did the very quick and simple ground mod, and made sure my board is mounted better (I am going to have to order now plastic mounts so replace all of the broken ones).

I also fully took out the florescent light. I am considering two options.
1. tapping the GI line and putting some LED's into the backbox (the GI only has a few lights on this machine)
2. Removing the florescent ballast and putting in a 12v transformer and using some LED strip lights.

Finally, I have everything working nicely. Got the schematic today so I could start tracing things. The only issue is the kickback is not working. Time to try to trace out the issue to find if it is the solenoid of the transistor etc.
