Quoted from KillyKillall:

It was built right after DEST, which I have as well and it advertises Hook as their next machine. Hook advertises LW3 as the machine after.

And do you also have a strange urge to buy LW3 because of that.

#38 10 years ago

Hmmm, so what your saying is I have to invite you over for some pizza, beer, and Hook, huh?

Quoted from ChadH:

It was in Star Wars and it was way overpowered since the ramp shot in Star Wars is pretty easy to loop. Of course, that was fixed.

Yeah, I can get it on Hook, but I have a hard time keeping the rhythm going for long. It starts to count back down pretty quickly.

Quoted from ghostbc:

Just picked one up last night. You guys are getting me excited about setting it up today. My right ramp habitrail (metal ramp) that sits on the clear plastic ramp seems to be missing a metal loop to tie it to a post on right. Can anyone take a shot of this area so i can fix or find what i need to fasten it.
Thanks

Hi. Is this the area you're looking for?

Doesn't the Xpin DMD work in this? I mean you have to choose one color, but still.

Not yet, but they're working on it and they're close to a working prototype.

Quoted from LesManley:

I've seen hole 3 lit for a skill shot on occassion. I think I have only seen it on ball 3 when someone is having a terrible game and it will award EB if you hit on the plunge.

Yep, I'll second that comment. Terrible games are not uncommon in my house, so it happens from time to time.

So, I finally got around to checking my Hook, and you can add me to the list of folks who have a gate.

Interestingly, I fired it up for a game and got this on the display.

Never seen this. It gave me a ball to shoot, and recognized the skill shot, but didn't eject the ball further. Resetting the game, the display is now dead with a faint burning smell in the back box. Rut Row! No visible board issues, so this is going to be interesting.

Look at the corroded screw here. That's weird. No other board corrosion.

Here it is. Just can't get 2 photos to upload to the same post for some reason.

The smell is definitly coming from this board. C7 looks to be ok, unless it's leaking under the trace (see back).

Quoted from Slim2013:

Anyone know how to get rid of the audio hum ? My game audio hum. Thanks

I ended up buying new speakers, and recapping my sound board. That knocked out virtually all of the hum for me. I have also heard others say to insulate some of the screws so that only one is grounding the board, but I have not had to go that far.

#359 8 years ago

OMG. I have had this game for a while and never realized it was that messed up!

#364 8 years ago
Quoted from MarAlb:

The brown 330uF cap is leaking! They always do. Replace it before it spit its more crap to the high voltage section and destroys it. When you desolder it Always a strange smell comes from it....like...... The 3K9 resistor always gets hot......it is normal, sometimes they are open, so it is a good thing to check this.
Marco

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to go over this whole board and test/refreshend up.

Finally got around to lighting up the skull hole. Pics don't necessarily do it justice, but it looks great in person. Thought I would post in case anyone else has been thinking about it. Been meaning to do this for a few years now.

Quoted from DBLM:

Looks good. I lit the skull in red and the scoop in blue.

That's a good idea. I also have two flex yellows shinning in the right side scoop, but it's only so-so. Maybe blue is the right way to go over there.

Quoted from Heisfranzkafka:

Hey all! I'm trying to get a hold of the 5.01 rom of the game, but it looks like mattsbasementarcade.com is not shipping any out for the foreseeable future. Does anyone here know where I can get a hold of the cpu and display set?

Hi.

Action Pinball sells them as well.

Quoted from JodyG:

Joined the club this weekend...picked up a pretty decent copy of this game at Allentown in the flea market section. I have a couple minor issues to fix, but overall am very pleased with this purchase and lack of general wear on the playfield. The spiral ramp is close to mint. Stay tuned...[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Excellent! Enjoy. I have always loved this game. More than most people say I should.

Quoted from Charles_Kline:

Be sure to donate to Chad as he doesn’t get the funds from those who burn his ROMs.

Ah, yeah. Good call there

Quoted from Phern:

Posted this in another post, but also going to post here. Looking for some guidance with this issue. See picture with Rufio ramp damage on the inside ramp. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the entire ramp structure? Obviously that's expensive, parts limited, and then have to figure out new decals, etc.
I guess I'm wondering if the metal flashing is sold individually so I could maybe affix it to the inside area. Any info greatly appreciated.[quoted image]

I had this. I'll have to take pictures when I get home, but basically I found a ball guard similar to the one on the top level of that ramp and bet it to follow the curve. Drilled to holes through and screwed it on, or rivited it can't recall. That's my suggestion if you want to keep the ramp.

Quoted from PantherCityPins:

One last issue. The bent wires that sit on top of the bottom lane guides.
I have one installed on each lane guide. There’s one more in my parts pile for a total of three but damned if I can tell where it goes? Any ideas?
[quoted image]

Interesting. I have two under the skull on mine (bent upwards into the skull) and only one on the right return lane. I assumed the right side got one because of the ball return, and nothing on the left, since no ball return there. Maybe that's wrong, as I always wondered why the skull needed them, unless it's to help keep it aligned?
