We bought our element new in 2002. Great single pin hauler, you can fit 2 EMs if you get creative with padding.
Clocked 347,000 miles on it before we sold it last year for $1100 to a family in need.
The gas mileage is not great and the standard repairs needed to go the distance are predictable; tires ,brakes, timing belt, serpentine belt, radiator and one round of new suspension on all corners. A common issue is the failure of the knocks sensor, seems to be the Achilles’ heel of the engine design, as it doesn’t last long and it’s difficult to access.
It was a fantastic family vehicle for all activities, similar in spirit to our VW microbus, but more reliable simply because it could be counted on for long distance trips at a modern pace.
If they still made them, I would buy another.
Pull the trigger, that’s a great deal.
