Quoted from Haymaker:

Mike doesn't want experienced players playing his games, by his own admission. Its really weird. He thinks all the other games are only made for "tournament players" and they aren't fun for normal people to walk up and play, which is bafflingly false. His games are designed to just "knock the ball around and have a good time", which it pretty much fails at I guess unless maybe its your first and only time ever playing pinball

Whining about how "tournament players are ruining pinball" has always been the last refuge of a scoundrel!

Lyman's genius was he could generate code that was approachable for the unwashed masses, yet deep enough for tournament players.

I swear people think "tournament players" are pinball gods who never lose the ball and just get through the entire game, wizard mode and all during tournaments. Like playing in a tournament revolves around who can get further into the DEEP CODE of the game. Really its just a bunch of drunk guys goofing around and hoping to start a mode before starting multiball lol.

Quoted from PinMonk:

Lyman's genius was he could generate code that was approachable for the unwashed masses, yet deep enough for tournament players.

Lyman was probably the best to ever do this but I would argue the majority of games today are easily appreciated by both casuals and in tournaments, and the 3rd group- home players who do want to just go super far into the game and explore all the modes. Its bizarre that some people think all of these things are always mutually exclusive, especially Mike from homepin who takes it to the furthest level possible. Like, does he think even if his idea of what makes a game fun was true, somebody wouldn't get tired of it after a short while in their home as they got slightly better at what pinball actually is? I mean, we see it all the time somebody is new to the hobby and picks up a game thats known to be shallow or just a poor player and after a couple months they're ready to move on because they get it now. Does not seem like a good or sustainable business practice.

Elwin's games are Nazi level cruel to newbs. They can't stay alive for more than a few seconds. If they do, they earn absolute abysmal-shit points.

His are the best selling pins in our current Renaissance, and it proves just how dumb Mike is.

I didn't know Spinal Tap was huge in Taipei

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s not a big college town.

Quoted from LeonSpinkx:

Look up reviews for Battlefield Earth. It's a terrible film; badly made, terribly written, and a huge financial loss. Fitting for Homepin.

Fittingly the author L Ron Hubbard was a crackpot with delusions of grandeur.

Seems like it could be Animal House

I'm fine with Home Pin having that theme lol

With no video/audio assets, it seems difficult. Would be great if they could pull in a known designer to work with the general layout etc.

you'll probably end up with something like a modern Firepower where you're trying to spell TOGA

They had Balcer and he lasted like 10 seconds.

I’ll be in Vegas in a couple weeks. If Tap is running, I’ll give it a whirl. But not before I play Puppet Show.

All you complainers and haters is what ruins the hobby , I bought TB and my kids loved it ,that's all that mattered to me ,like any game they got tired of it after 3 yrs and I sold it for $4500 ,yeah that's right $4500 to a guy in Fargo ND and he put in on route .I never had 1 problem out of the game, He builds a solid game .Bottom line is not every game is for the tournament player,I honestly could care a less about the code as long as it's reliable, definitely can't say that about a couple other manufacturers, our kids are the future of pinball so all of you haters that think games suck because of code or layout, get yo heah out of yo ass

Makes you think doesn't it. We go on about code and layout, theme and theme integration as being important.
But really, once you pull yo head out yo ass, it's his kids that pinball should really be judged by.

Kudos to Homepin Mike. The target consumer he described does exist.

The booger-eating crowd?

Yeah, Thunderbirds is a pinball that will pass the time for kids, but why not put them in front of a GOOD pin or a series of them to tune their tastelevel? After comparing it to a few actually fun pins, they'll understand the issues.

As he described on a recent podcast, it's people who don't care about layout, rules, scoring, or asset choreography. A game with a recognizable theme and working flippers for the batting around the ball ticks all the boxes.

#1418 1 year ago

Rings a bell for me,.. TB is the favourite pin for my grandkids in my small collection,.. its a boredom factor,.. TB is chaos and sound, which keeps them entertained,.. once bored, then they go to AFMR which doesn’t last that long before they get bored.

I am not sure how they will handle GZ once I get that unboxed. If Mike ever ships code updates so TB plays as if it really follows rules and structure , it may drop off the Grandkids nbr 1 spot

Kids who like pins who play at mine

#2 Rob Zombie
#3 Aerosmith ( the pretty lady on the backglass )

You like AS as the dudes look like the ladies ha ha

#1421 1 year ago

No, children Andy. My mates 4 year old thinks the AS guy on the backglass is a lady cause he has long hair.

" I wanna play the game with the lady on it."

In an aside, I always thought the chorus to that song was ... Do the funky lady...

I like your argument. It's like saying Teletubbies is a great show because toddlers giggle at the sounds and colors. All the haters just don't understand how great shows should be judged. Fuck those guys.

Its not tournament players, its pinball players. I'll never stop being amazed by what random people think ToUrNaMeNt PlAyErS are. The game doesn't appeal to people because it sucks from a pinball playing perspective, not because tournament players don't like it. I'm sure your kids did enjoy it, just like they'd enjoy the most complicated hardcore tournament game of all time if it made neat sounds and had cute graphics on it.

I played Tap last night at PHoF. The flippers suck. It doesn’t look or feel like the most well made game. I don’t know the rules or the status of the ruleset. But I liked it!

It’s Tap man. And it felt like a Tap themed game. The Tap music and clips alone made it more fun then Bond 60th for me. If it were $6,500 I’d probably say WTF and buy it. But not for 9 grand. At least not until there’s a finished product I can judge on its true merits. I really wish another company had made this game.

That's kind of the thing, the price is ridiculous. If these homepins were priced as a budget machine, I could see their appeal. But being priced the same as the big boys.... wth... no way.

That's the position the playfield needs to be in to actually make the ramp shots. Had another play today, a year after my first attempt. I am trying my best to think of a nice thing to say about it.....!

#1430 12 months ago

If i had a dollar every time the playfield was up, I would be Rich.

#1431 12 months ago

Gave them another couple of balls on the weekend.

I've said all i have to say about them.

Yep transformer burnt out, Dead day one, OMG where is CE UL or CTICK approval on this garbage.

#1434 11 months ago

Gave it another play on the weekend at pinfest. The inner ramp isn’t malleable with the flipper strength where it’s at. Clean shots just don’t make the angle. It’s not a good layout for entry. The code didn’t seem to have moved on from the last year. Definitely a game for a niche group of people that aren’t really players

Coil burnt out on the one on the left, was something not essential, so the coil was disconnected

Mike used his fake profile to inform me what happened to the game via PM and then Mike was... just Mike. Doing himself no favours.

Wayne when I suggested maybe Australian pinball distributors might need to start discounting games soon to move them on because of the economic environment your reaction was to block me from your facebook page. Yet here you are doing the same to Mike. All give and no take seems to be the Wayne way

Because you are in dreamland, no Australian Distributors will be discounting games as there isn't enough margin in them to begin with and if people don't buy them then manufacturers will stop making them simple. Big difference between JJP Stern CGC etc they have a product people want and make thousands of games and backed by Billionaires, Homepin product has basic rules poor layout and unreliable and the future manufacturer numbers will prove that. So i suggest you buy a homepin game as that's the only machine that will be discounted or buy a used game, who knows maybe it will be rare and collectable,

$14.5au is the advertised rate atm here. It was sitting next to Haggis Mermaid at $12.5kau and Centaur at $15.5kau

Next to those were AMD's Stern stand with Godzilla prem and Venom prem ect @ $15.5kau
