This trainwreck is no fun to watch, far too slow.
Quoted from PismoArcade:I'll be playing one at PHOF tomorrow. Given the Youtube videos and the manufacturer, I'm keeping my expectations low. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
I've played the TBAG they have there and it's the only pin that makes me think that Punchy The Clown wasn't as bad as I thought.
T-bag

Got a review for us? I know Mike is really keen to see real reviews from people who have played his game
Ok just played Spinal Tap at PBHOF and it’s not good… it’s looks good but plays worse than Thunderbirds.
I actually think Thunderbirds is not as bad as people say it is and I played it after Spinal Tap just to compare and I say Thunderbirds feels better.
I think Spinal Tap looks cool but the video on the back box is just cut scenes from the movie and barely integrates in any way. The speaker lights and the cabinet looks cool, the art is Ok and it’s basically a hardtop on wood which is just like Thunderbirds and not a bad idea.
The little toys the guitars and drum set are all cool but the flippers were weak and I lost a ball that Tim had to clear for me. Wasn’t worth more the two games for me, I wanted to like it but it was slow and not that much fun.
I am a minority I don’t think Thunderbirds is that bad probably because the whole theme is cool to me and translates well to a game. I wish someone would take a fast pinball board or a raspberry PI and make a better game out of it. Because the theme is campy fun but the game is not that good either.
Sorry all - wanted to like it and it’s just not that good.
Praise for Tim though since my last visit to the Hall of fame more games were up this time so big praise for him and his team.

Such a waste of an epic license

Well, at least Homepin is consistent.
Quoted from PinMonk:Well, at least Homepin is consistent.
Thanks for writing up your experience with it. Is Thunderbirds at PHOF, too?
He said he played it after Spinal Tap to compare. Yeah it’s there.
Quoted from BallyKISS1978:He said he played it after Spinal Tap to compare. Yeah it’s there.
Heh, that's what I get for perusing.
The cabinet and rails lock down bars all improved in build quality but the art looks fuzzy is the best way to say it. Outlane switches looked weird they looked small maybe they were magnetic or something - just smaller in the outlanes.
Playfield just bricked for me when the flippers were weak.
On Thunderbirds at least the flippers worked. Say what you will about Homepin Thunderbirds was working at PHOF think all the games played on it.
Love the cabinet, the cabinet art, the DMD and LCD display were cool but they didn’t integrate with the game.
I am not a Homepin hater (minus some of the owners widely reported inappropriate comments) I think he produces some decent replacement parts. I think he should stay in that lane or maybe sell kits to re-theme games or something else. Clearly software and game code is an issue for them maybe they could have made ways to upgrade game code by a group of hobbyists.

In the last few years different Mfg’s have wasted more than a few epic licenses.
Thunderbirds, Jetsons, Heavy Metal and now Spinal tap

IDK if I would classify Jetsons or Thunderbirds as 'epic' licenses.
Is there a video with any decent gameplay of Spinal tap? I can just find little clips or older plays where things don't seem set up properly... I'd imagine someone on the team could do a video where they could actually demonstrate what it does in gameplay? (I'd hope).

Agree for thunderbirds.. it was a playable machine, but just could not stand where it was marketed.. If the MSRP and market target were in the below Stern home pin region, step up from zizzle for a 'real' machine, I think people would love it... but at 5k, it just was never there for a offshore constructed machine where there was an expectation of exceptional value.
Thunderbirds is most certainly an epic license. If I could be bothered I'd show you why. Homepin are pretty clueless with it comes to making fun pinball experiences. They need a talented Creative Director.
I wouldn't buy any pinball just based on those licenses. Epic? sheesh, childrens shows and a band i've never heard of before.
Quoted from punkin:a band i've never heard of before.
The band is not real. It's a made up band from a parody documentary movie of the same name. Watch it if you get the chance. It really is a hillaroiusly great movie.

Ahh, sorry i don't watch television.

They had Balcer for a hot minute on Spinal Tap, but that failed for some reason and Homepin decided they could do it themselves.
They were wrong.
Quoted from wamonkey:and it’s basically a hardtop on wood which is just like Thunderbirds and not a bad idea.
If it's just a hardtop, then why even use a piece of wood? Why not develop your own plastic, metal, or other piece of engineered material? Or is it just a cheap piece of plywood?
Quoted from SLAMT1LT:Thunderbirds is most certainly an epic license.
Here in the states, it was mildly popular, but in most of the rest of the english speaking world, it was WAY more popular.
Whatever happened to Mike's balls?
Maybe he had a few left over used them in these games, giving the flippers a hard time to make ramp shots.
Tony refused to have them in the Shed. Mumbled something about them magnetizing every thing in the joint!

Quoted from pinballaddicted:They are junk. Do not put them in any of your games. We learnt that lesson the hard way.
Easily roughed up? Easily magnetized? Rust easily? Pitted? How are they junk?

I did the same played Spinal Tap first then went to play Thunderbirds which oddly wasn't as bad as I remembered it was.
I guess Homepin is finally on to something every time they release a game the previous one suddenly doesn't look as terrible as it was.
Let's wait for the next game to enjoy spinal tap !
Quoted from PinMonk:Easily roughed up? Easily magnetized? Rust easily? Pitted? How are they junk?
Balls are not good quality steel and have been polished a lot. It makes the outer shell really hard. When you start flinging them around a pinball machine they pit and you have steel flakes everywhere.

Is that from recent experience or from years ago? I spoke to an operator who is using these ones in the link and is pretty happy with them. Haven't tried them myself as I have a huge barrel of ball baron ones.

From a few years ago. No chance we would ever use them again.
We are in the same boat. We bought hundrrds of balls years ago and we still have some left. When we run out I think we will go for Ball Barron.

OMG - hillarious - you may be right. I am not a homepin hater, Thunderbirds is not horrible. But, I can say I did not think much of Spinal Tap so you may be right after the next game each prior game will look better. So, after 4-5 more releases Thunderbirds will not be ranked the worst game ever (which I believe is not true anyway).

I actually like the look of the dmd and the LCD screen together .

Was there a pinball machine in that video?
It is fitting that their release video is the same quality as their pinball machine, pure trash… With all of the other releases out there not sure who is going to buy this machine.
