Quoted from Yoko2una:

But credit where it's due - that's a really cool implementation of a guitar in the cabinet side art.

Whoa- I didn't even notice the guitar shaped siderails. Good eye. That is actually pretty cool.

and the back box brackets are like a pick guard with 3 pickups cutout.

From the guy who brought you Thunderturds…get ready for Spinal Crap!

It doesn't look promising and this was a theme I would've loved to have but calling it "crap" before even seeing it is premature, in my opinion. Does it look like it lacks A LOT, yes! But lets face it, Homepins never claimed to be the Rolls Royce of pinball. He's more like the Ford Pinto where he's going for that market that can't afford a machine with all the bells and whistles.

I'll wait to see all of it but not holding out much hope for it.

Thank God you brought cars into the discussion so now we can comprehend what's going on here. It was impossible for me to understand what makes games different, but mentioning the automobile industry brought it all into real-world focus for me, and showed it all in a shockingly clear new light. Why hasn't anybody ever done this before?!?!

I used to think that Thunderbirds was the worst pinball machine ever designed, built, and sold. But now, I realize that it's actually exactly the same as an AMC Gremlin.

Thanks dude!

No no no has to remain the Ford Pinto as the Gremlin didn't explode when you nudged it!

Looks like some kind of pinstadium / expression lighting kind of thing going on?

Seems like an odd choice to have a full size panel display, along with a amber DMD? I don't really understand what is going on there.

Anyway, whatever, guess we'll see when we see it.. Coming in with lower expectations sometimes can leave you pleasantly surprised..

#709 1 year ago

For some reason I'm thinking the top will just display static images and we'll get t-bird-style low-quality DMD graphics down below...

Yeah, I was looking at:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/homepins-spinal-tap/page/14#post-6966336

Thinking.. that couldn't be static.. ? .. well who knows...The monochrome DMD region is feeling a bit old now, unless going for nostalgia.

Or maybe clips that play with gamesplay, but without any scores, instruction or some sort of UI integrated? They'll use the DMD for that?

#712 1 year ago

Could be clips, easy enough to call "play blah.mp4" without having to overlay any information. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised by this game since it's a good theme, but homepin....

Did Ford make beans & the classic Joe Dante movie? I'm really confused.

I want this to be good though that low rez image looks horrible.

Quoted from hank527:

Sad they didn’t make the speaker panel the front of a Marshall amp with knobs that go to 11….that’s a miss.

Did anyone verify the dimensions? Perhaps the low res pic is blown up and the game is actually scaled to the Stone Henge set piece used in the movie.

All jokes aside I would like this to be a great game but my expectations are low. Maybe this will be a pleasant surprise. Hopefully I will get a chance to check one out at some point.

Yeah. It could be a lot worse so far.
I still have hope that it's OK.

I'm super interested in this - dying to see it play as it seems to be a real thing!

Highly unlikely I would ever buy though.

Looks like the gears are starting to turn. I wonder who will be the first to do a proper stream of this game. Proper meaning no hand held cell phones. Stationary playfield cam and at least a display cam. Player cam isn’t really that big of a deal, but your typical pinball streamer has that whether it is at home, on location, or with a full up mobile rig for tournaments.

That's cool, always like the screened position undersides.

Not using plywood

#726 1 year ago

Good spotting, I was just focused on the screen printing / laser engraving of the underside.... if that is MDF / Chipboard with a veneer then I would never own one.

you don't usually see that many t-nuts used under a playfield
I wonder if there are t-nuts on the topside (under the art sheet) to hold in the mechs?

And if they are using MDF how is that going to hold up in humid conditions?

That's ply.

Pardon my fast and crude finger painting on my phone - you can see the layers - though there is a rather large mdf core.

They sell this kind of engineered product at HD.

Holy fucking shit that's ugly...

#747 1 year ago
Quoted from TreyBo69:

I believe the technical term is "fugly."

#748 1 year ago

Point of order:

The line from the movie is "These go to eleven", not "this one goes to eleven."

Unless they're talking about the pin itself, this is kind of a fail on its own. Plus, and I think I mentioned it before, I would've made the whole "11" thing an oversized amp knob up in the back corner of the playfield that uses a stepper motor that'll physically turn the knob to run up the numbers as gameplay goes(most likely the same way it does currently in lights). That way it takes up a space that's usually awkward to fill with something that doesn't require too much visual interaction to understand what's happening with it at any moment. But that's just me. Again, we don't know how limiting the licensors might have been with artwork and game design/layout. If the game plays great and integrates the sounds/callouts well, it should be just fine.

Yeah. I'll withhold judgement until we see more.
I still have hope.

Me too. I'm cautiously optimistic that this will play good and be at a good price point. My biggest concern is the code.
