Like my other threads (Stern's & Spooky's Game Release History) I like capturing the history of games produced by a company as sometimes the data is interesting to compare with each other or other games by other manufacturers and helpful in determining info down the track for whatever reason as later on it would be harder to find in one location.

The stern one can be found here:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/sterns-game-release-history

The Spooky one can be found here:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/spookys-game-release-history

In this thread I hope to capture the history of "completed built homebrew games" posted here at Pinside by the "Homebrew Guys". Once the creator posts a game play video showing the game playing with a full art package, along with general play rules and sounds I will post the game as a "completed game" list in the year it hit that stage. I am aware that Homebrew games will constantly be reworked in the way of rules but thought best to draw the line somewhere.

Since there are so many started projects, along with many going quite (I am one of these) and a dedicated homebrew section I will no longer list the activate build list but every few months I will check homebrew game status and will make sure the list is updated around November / December to be contenders for the Twippy Awards.

Hey gweempose , being that you are a moderator we need some recognition for the following completed pins like the other completed pins - can you help with this please:

- Doom
- GTA Vice City
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Queen

#8 6 years ago

For Buffy, maybe include me instead of & team? Also, I don't think we had final playfield layout and art until 2015 or 2016... Thanks

Some games missing:
Casino & Kuglers from rosh
Deadpin from Bonnevil69

Lots more going farther back, I'll have to dig up my notes.

cheers Mocean and my apologies to you and anyone else if I leave people or important details out of credits, just post and I will update the index.

I didn't think the art was done by 2014 either and for some of the info I did go off the pinside game info page - can you confirm this please.

If there are other projects out there please provide a link, name or person's avatar and game name as that helps me alot.

#11 6 years ago

noticed Casino has gone quiet as the thread has not had activity for 11 months and rosh is at American Pinball, will this be a future un-licenced game there?

#12 6 years ago

swinks

I absolutely love this thread!

Wizard Blocks uses the P-ROC boardset. Its the best thing in the business.

#13 6 years ago

I had forgotten about the JM retheme into the Matrix by...pinnovating maybe?

@compy's demoman2k

Are we including primarily software rethemes (i.e., continued software with new display technology and maybe an auto launcher?)

If so there's
@epthegeek's CCC
@curbfeeler's pinbot 2.0
Dp' BoP2.0
@snux's f14 second sortie
@notrashcougar's Earthshaker Aftershock
demo man on steroids

no worries as I like checking out all these projects myself, but thought this would be a go to Homebrew index

and

another reason is I contacted Jeff at This Week In Pinball and am campaigning for a Homebrew section to be added to the 2018 TWIPY's for best Homebrew Game (recognising a great homebrew pinball of the year) and show recognition to some very clever and innovative pinball designers not in the pinball business. Hopefully it happens and Jeff can use this list as an aid.

all great suggestions and great pieces of work but would prefer to focus on the whole package of a game: art, layout, rules, sounds.

The Multi-Bingo, 2016, P3-Roc by... me!

138 games playable in a single cab with 10 swappable playfields. Extra drawer mounted below for additional controls.

First playable in public in 2016, artwork completed (stencil and backglass) 2017.

Complete documentation here:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/multi-bingo-machine

Source code/schematic here (public currently needs to be synced with my dev repo):
https://github.com/bingopodcast/bingos

Still working on a manual and have 4 more games I'd like to add from the Bally catalog, then it will be on to creating my own games.

In the interim, making my own EM arcade game.
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-em-arcade-game

Not done yet, though.

Edit: oh, maybe the Multi doesn't qualify since I didn't design the playfield? Most of the bingos fall into the "Don Hooker" layout - revealed and perfected in 1951. Hard to improve upon that.

Yay some recognition for custom game builds. Thanks Swinks

Hitchhikers
Uses the homebrew KE V.2 ( quad ) computer

Just a footnote here, I resist buying off the shelf hardware, I actually like building everything including the operating systems from scratch myself.
If I was into cars I wouldn't be designing a car for GM to pickup I would be making Rat Rods.
This is the most rewarding hobby and i would impress upon anyone contemplating it to give it a crack. I'd love a world with these rare gems spread throughout

Writing rules from the ground up, even with a framework to lean on, is no small task.

Personally, I disagree with this decision, but you're the OP.

I agree with you as programming is probably the largest task there is a custom game and I will add them to the list - I am back to work and only so much time so I will capture over the next week - see post 2.

BUT

I am drawing the line at there must be a build thread already on Pinside as don't want to capture completed games grabbed off the internet as want to pay tribute to the builders that shared on Pinside.

#27 6 years ago

Swinks!

Cool thread and thanks for keeping this up!

Just thought I'd mention another ambitious build:

I dunno. I had no idea until yesterday there was a Matrix pin retheme, nor that a Kill Bill is almost done after over two years work. Bringing some awareness to them on pinside would be nice.

There were a lot of great projects in the very early days of P-ROC, some 6-7 years ago, that weren't well preserved on pinside. I seem to recall a Getaway retheme that used a large backglass LCD that was integrated via a customzied game engine (think something like Unity3D, I guess) and...here's the kicker: if I recall correctly it was built for the sole purpose of being used as a prop in an Audi commercial. That was done before my time, though. I got involved about 5 years ago or so.

I helped a lot of folks who either abandoned projects along the way or decided to keep quiet about them ...there were rewrites of MM, avengers, and another Earthshaker game (not Scott's) to name a few.

Not stalled, just not posted. Only yesterday I updated the code to take account of turning off the amp in attract. It also has games within a game. You can now play Genesis, Star Trek, Barbarella as the mini wizard mode (sci-fi theater).

Details are wrong.

entered in now,

does it use a p-roc or the original data east boards & program + a computer for the lcd?

Yes 100% Original boards and a autoplay video player for the extra lcd that powersup the monitor and player automatic when you put the machine on.
Its a remake with new playfield design and some extra shots.

#39 6 years ago

We don't really have a dedicated topic from the start, but there's Road Kings 2.0 with P-ROC and DMD, backglass converted to DMD by JP de Win, spinner and 2 flashers added to go with the new rules, and quite deep and complete ruleset if Pieter van Leijen and I may say so .

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/road-kings-20-with-dmd

edit - PS: nice initiative to make a list. Maybe our game meets the standard to get on the list.

2 weeks later
#40 6 years ago

I can see you not wanting to go back years. But if you change your mind I did a “big game” to “greyhounds the race Home” retheme with original boards 8 or so years ago before I was on pinside.

nice work Fortytwo

it's not that I don't want to pay respect to older games, it's basically drawing the line as when you look deeper there are so many projects out there that are never posted on pinside. Therefore this thread is a view from the perspective of builds of custom games with their story of development posted on pinside for pinsiders to look up, read, learn and then get motivation to possibly do the same. Just like p-roc and fast have there threads dedicated to their forum and products. This isn't product specific, rather pinside build thread specific.

so the line in the sand for this thread is linking it back to pinside build threads of custom games - new and re-themes. I have been a bit busy but contemplating doing a separate homebrew thread just on homebrew software customisation as when you look deeper there are so many there as well.

I get it. There’s a lot of undocumented projects out there. He retheme really was my start into home brew Pinball. I really like what you have done here. It would be cool to see this group get recognition in twipys. I have seen a lot of talent in these forums.

I wrote to Jeff a few weeks ago after the TWIPY'S and asked if they could have a homebrew section and sent him the link to this thread so hopefully it is included in the 2018 TWIPY'S and would be an awesome tribute to the clever guys making custom pins and maybe even give them some exposure and possibly scouted to one of the pinball companies.

Filling in some info:

Escape: P3-ROC
Legends of Camelot: P3-ROC

Correcting some info:

Wizard Blocks: P3-ROC
WW2: P3-ROC
Doom: P3-ROC
Queen: P3-ROC
TNA: P3-ROC

Also, it looks like Archer is linked but not listed. It's a P-ROC game.

Generally speaking (there are exceptions - like WOOLY) the P3-ROC is for custom builds, and the P-ROC is for re-themes of WPC/WPC-95 and Stern (Whitestar/SAM) machines.

Thanks Gerry, I will correct this and good to know the difference

That was one of the reasons for the thread as then people can see what games use what board sets, as helps others.

Cheers

My F-14 project will be getting the cobwebs blown off very soon too, it's not a complete build but is new software etc. P-ROC based.

Are you including software rewrites for existing games that are ongoing? Some of these started before 2013. If so:

My projects:

Stern Indiana Jones Rewrite (SAM +PROC):
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/indiana-jones-stern-software-rewrite-port-over-the-journey

that carried on from:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/indiana-jones-software-rewrite-the-journey

Whirlwind (System 11 +PROC) rewrite:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/whirlwind-software-rewrite-the-journey

Star Trek (Bally AS-2518 +myPinballs Custom Controller)
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bally-star-trek-software-rewrite-the-journey

Also, there are other projects similar which have also been ongoing for numerous years with a lot of effort put in.

Eric's Cactus Canyon Continued (WPC-95+PROC) epthegeek
