I have recently got a broken StarTrip. Unfortunately there seems to be some damage to the mpu board. So i thought i could think about retheming it. Sold the boards, apron and displays to a guy who already has some GamePlan Pins and is happy to get the parts.

I want to make some changes to the playfield design, so i will make a new playfield and just strip the original from its parts, but keep the playfield itself intact.

This will be a quick sideproject. The theme is about my girlfriend and me. (little bit inspired from the awesome homebrew Philina)

I knew it looked familiar!
Your design is similar to Trudeau’s “Kings of the Road”

It looks like it will have a lot of great flow!

Ha that is funny it is really similar, but i actually did just change the top part of StarTrip and swapped the right top slingshot for a scoop.

Thank you i managed to convince my girlfriend to get a bumper car so that i can put in a pc driving wheel. It sits in our living room. And in the homebrew Philina they made a cool picture on a vespa. So that is our version

You have a bumper car in the living room???

The build is looking great. The scoop is entirely new to Star Trip yes? So it will require new wiring and programming? Excited to see how you do

Yes i have , i have built in a pc racing wheel. So it is a pc racing seat now.

I will use a cobra pin pinball controller. And i plan to use a raspberry pi as host pc. I won't use any of the original electronic boards, since those have issues.

#13 2 years ago

The scoop is new yes, the plunger will go through a one way gate. Skillshot will be to drop it into the scoop. The left loop would be awesome to end it on the right inlane. Have to try out how i can make that work.

Finished all the guides, scoop etc. Had an issue with the drain. I guess i wasn't exact enough when i reproduced the playfield. The ball could rest at a place where the switch wasn't activated. Made a small metal piece and that works now as it should.
So what is next to do? All the cables for switches, coils, lights, sound system, power supplies and raspberry pi. Hey but i already did most of the code.

Well, lots of stuff done. Soundsystem is done all wires are done. Lots of the code is done.
unfortunately my 24V powersupply doesn't seem to work. So no flipping.

Found it, had to put 5V to the power supply pin PV. Trip to the Stars is now flipping

#28 2 years ago

have to tweak the power for the coils a bit, will be playing around with it tonight i think .
but overall no mayor problem, which is nice

#29 2 years ago

Powerball hype! Seems like a good layout for one.

So i tweaked the coil power and i am satisfied now. It's quite fun and the bumpers and slings do quite some action. Found a few things i will fiddle with a bit, but really very undramatic problemwise .

#31 2 years ago

And finally a chance to use the orange ball i have. It is lighter and wouldn't really work in other pins, but in this it feels nice.

#32 2 years ago

Very impressive. I had a chance to play the same machine in my neck of the woods.
A fun machine. Love your improvements.

#33 2 years ago

It is really quite fun to play. The goal is to shoot the droptargets to activate the bonusscoring. The bonus points go into a separate variable.and only if you shoot the kickouthole you will be awarded the collected bonus. If you drain, you won't get the bonuspoints. That is quite challenging.

Can you show a little more detail in pictures on the display for scoring and ball. Curious what you did there.
The original apron hosted the 7 segment score displays.

#36 2 years ago

I just have one display. But i tried to mimic the original at the left with the player info. A led indicates which player is up. I might put a dark foil over it so that you don't see the number when it is not lit.
on the display on the right:
On the top there is player 1 score in small. When there are two players, the player 2 score will be in small on the top right.

In the middle is the score of the current player. On the bottom left the bonusscore you can collect at the kickout hole. The bonusscore will only have a value when you are at least at "2x". On the bottom right the ball number.

It is a Elecrow 5" monitor, resolution 800x480 connected with hdmi to a raspberry pi 4 running mpf.

Any lagging or issues running a pi 4 ?

#40 2 years ago

love the custom jukebox inserts and how much 3d printed parts you used.

No not at all, i think when you use video it is recomended to not use a raspberry. I am just playing music and the normal code, no problems at all.
