I own a Joker Poker and a Torch and as much as I enjoy them, there's just something about the widebody System 80 games. I have Black Hole and MGOW which are fun, tough games, and just recently acquired a Devil's Dare which I have a feeling is going to be another keeper once shopped. If it's as good as these other Gottliebs, I'll be on the lookout for a Volcano soon too!

Yeah Gerry I'm in the middle of repinning connectors. Hopefully that will get this bad boy to boot up. I don't think it's gonna need a CPU like the seller thought. Might decide to demylarize it and give it to Jim to work his magic! Just kidding Jim, but keep up the awesome work. It's nice to know there's a top notch restorer right down the road from me.

Jim I'm going to try to make it next Thursday night. Let me know what time to be there.

Hey Gerry I finally got this bad boy fully functional! Played it for the first time today since snagging it back when we talked about 6 weeks ago. What a blast! I'm so glad I decided to get it. It's as good as my Black Hole and MGOW. Fits right in. I love how the Devil can't make up his mind as to what the player should shoot for. In one breath, "Shoot captive Cave". Then "Shoot spot targets". Make up your friggin mind! Just awesome!

One last thing to figure out, maybe you or Steve or somebody else can gelp me figure out. In this picture notice the right-most digit in player 1and 3 score displays are out as well as the left digit in the credits display. There should actually be 10 credits showing right now, not 0. Can't figure this one out partly because I don't have the manual for this game. Which reminds me, can someone tell me what the settings are to change the balls per game from 5 to 3 and any other game changeable settings (or maybe tell me if there's an online chart I can check).

Now where can I find a Volcano?

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. I socketed and replaced that chip today, no change. Maybe it's a bad one, I'll have to put in another one. Thanks again.

Thanks Steve, I found the A1J3-16 wire broke. Just crimped it and now look! You're the best!

Steve may I pick your brain a bit more, please? Thought I had my Devil's Dare all set but apparently not. Have a couple problems that may or may not be related:

1. Sometimes when I push the power switch, what comes up is a 0 in player 1 and a 2 in player 3 and no attract. Take a look:
image-948.jpgimage-948.jpg
I'll shut the game off and try again. Sometimes I'll have to try a couple times, sometimes it boots properly the first time.

2. I have a new remote battery on the board (3 AA and a diode) but it only "remembers" if I turn the game on within a few minutes of turning it off. If I wait a few hours, I lose the high game score. Also, I'm not getting any knock which I would think I would since any score I get is higher than the high score of 0,000,000 (since the high score is never remembered).

3. My pop bumpers and 2 groups of 2 stand ups ( not the 2 four-bank of stand ups) are always flashing during the game. Is this correct behavior? Doesn't matter whether the game is set to 3 or 5 balls.

Really appreciate any help.

Quoted from gearheaddropping:

If anyone is looking for a nice Torch, I have one with a new Pascal 4x1 board installed. Its a nice game and plays well.
I have too many machines and am out of room so I am open to trades for smaller items like slot machines (Mills) or trade stimulators.
