Quoted from Dee-Bow:Glad to be in the club!

Love quirky sounds of the older Gottlieb games. Especially Totem!
The Amazing Spiderman- Game works great. Boards all refurbished. I have an issue with my sound, volume is very low almost non existent, sound board works great in another spiderman cabinet.
My Pot measures 0 ohms to 96 ohms. When I turn the pot its silent until the very end of the turn. Then I get low volume.
Is it possible the pot is worn out? Even though it does measure correct Ohms variance?
Joined the club today. Nothing is plugged up, all the boards were removed from the head. But Ive got it mostly back together and ill be sorting out the harness later.
Supposedly it works, just had a flasher lock on and the last owner broke it down and never messed with it after that.
Wish me luck!

Thanks pinostalgia I've always loved the gameplay of following the checkpoints to advance on this one. Im going to need a bottom right plastic if anyone reading this has one I'd be interested.
First initial look through the game and I find one coil that wont move and someone has clipped the wire on it. Before I swap the coil, do I need to check corresponding transistors like with williams solid state games? This is my first Sys80 so a little advice would be great.
Thanks for any input.

This game is still very new to me. Can anyone tell me when/ the black LED strips are supposed to light up?
I believe mine are not working but I haven't really dug into the issue yet.
20210823_010713 (resized).jpgQuoted from JodyG:The black strips of bulbs will alternate sides depending on sling hits. Only one will work at a time.
Thanks, starting to make a bit more sense now.
My right side works intermittently. But the left doesnt work at all. After finding the boards that control these. One looks like it was in a fire. Luckily I think i have already found a replacement.
Quoted from pinballjah:Anyone know this part number for the kicker assembly? Thanks.

I'm not sure the varying lengths or if Gottlieb only used one. But this is what I found.

SmartSelect_20210902-172738_Chrome (resized).jpgQuoted from Mad_Dog_Coin_Op:Repin the mpu to driver board cable (the double sided one) That one is a must. Do your displays work but just show 1s and or 0s? If so, it is likely the kill switch in the door. That needs to be closed or the game won't start.
I thought those bifurcated crimps were obsolete and impossible to find now. Is there an alternative that works well?
Quoted from Mad_Dog_Coin_Op:These guys have them already on the wires. I'm not sure if they are real or knockoffs.

I have personally been making the MPU to Driver cables for years with all NOS parts but my supply is beginning to run dry also. I only have enough parts to make another dozen.
Yeah I've dealt with Docent before. I don't know what kind of supply he has, but for personal reasons, I'd rather not deal with him again. I'd like to just find a suitable alternative instead.
Quoted from Cheddar:This post has a link to a guy who has them
Each interconnect takes 66 of these if you double up the GND and 5V
Unfortunately that's Bob Robert's, his site shows that its been down since 2016.

Very fitting name. Looks cool. I'd buy that one and attempt to build one if you ever got a new playfield.
Cheers!
Quoted from chuckwurt:I think I’m just going to experiment with a working original pop board and two different aftermarket ones. See if they behave differently at all. I’ll report back.
Did you rebuild the board using the guide on Pinwiki?
https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Gottlieb_System_80#Replacing_the_2N6057_with_a_TIP-102
Many of the early boards had a design flaw that was later changed.
Quoted from bigguybbr:I wouldn't personally put a playfield protector on an older playfield in that nice of condition. I would just keep it cleaned and waxed since it will be home use.
Agreed. Clean it, wax it, enjoy it.
If you really want to protect the beautiful playfield. Remove everything topside and have a professional clearcoat it.
Just brought a black hole home, fixing it up for a good friend. Then get to keep it for a few months. Yesterday I cleaned up both playfields and put new rubber in. Waiting on a PS to MPU harness to come in. Little bit of battery damage on the mpu but overall, looking good so far.

Machine powers up and boots just fine. Game starts, ball kicks out and upper playfield works flawless. As far as I can tell. The lower playfield is not so fortunate. The flippers are not working at all down below, and the solenoid that brings a ball back to the top keeps firing over and over every couple seconds. I can see a few wires with electrical tape on the board right next to the kicker but havent dug deep enough to see if that has anything to do with the solenoid im diagnosing.
Thoughts and or pics of underneath the lower playfield would be appreciated. Specifically around that pop bumper board right next to the kicker solenoid.
Quoted from Spacemanratso09:Just picked up Count Down and we love it
Only issue is I cannot add more then one credit on it
Was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of where to look/what to replace
My initial thought is NVRAM?
Maybe install one ?
Are you trying to put it on free play? There's a few simple solutions to alleviate this issue.
Check out the pinwiki article on setting system 1 games to free play. 3.5.1
SmartSelect_20220507-042206_Chrome (resized).jpgNot exactly sure why, but the two woood pieces that help hold the glass in on this diamond lady are missing.

Should I just trace them, cut them out, paint them black, and glue them back in?
Also, I'm having the all too familiar mid-game reset.
I'll start with ground mods, unplugging the daughter board, then new mpu to driver harness from docent if necessary.
Any other advice to try?
I don't recall seeing the asterisks. But I'll pay closer attention the next time it happens. I do know the game recently lost sound and wiggling the interconnect harness while a game was playing made it start working again. So I immediately suspected a ground issue.
Hey, thought Id ask the hive mind about my SYS1 Genie.
I can't get the memory to clear properly. My high scores keep showing garbled data after each power off.
I have replaced the coin cell battery,
I have continuity from the battery to the socketed (newer) 5101 chip,
I have reset each data value individually with the coin door button,
Not exactly sure what else to check, I haven't tried another 5101, but it's socketed now so I suppose I could try another one.
Ideas?
