Did Boston say they are out of all system 1 displays or just the blue color ones?

I only inquired about the blue, so I don't know about the green.

Yes!

#3105 4 years ago
Quoted from Mad_Dog_Coin_Op:

Check the little diode boards on the bottom of the playfield. My guess one of them is bad. Common problem on the old Gottliebs.

The all meassure .223 to .255

A1-j7 is repinned and groundmods done.

Even put in a working janin mpu and still the same. It does reset the drops kings and aces when for example 3 of them is down..and its always the same.
They score diffrent and when one target is down one of the others does not score..always the same..but score if the otherone is up.

#3106 4 years ago
Quoted from Andreas:

A1-j7 is repinned and groundmods done.

Check A1-J7 closely and make sure all in the right place, same with the ground mods.

Quoted from RWH:

Even though manual says so its not missing any cabels..looked at pinrepairs joker poker and A1-J7 looks like mine.

I did put in a fully working mpu from janin and still problems with the droptargets resets before everytning is down. So did his switchtest and see that if one of the black aces falls it registerd the other like fallen but its not..the same with the black kings. What in the heck is going on here. The diods meassure between 0.223 to 0.256 so Im pritty sure they are good. What is the common link between the 2 black cards in the diffrent droptargetbanks?(Kings and Aces).
Once again..ground is done, diods meassures good, voltage from powersup is good and a1-j7 repinned.

You are missing segments on 2 displays it looks like to me. That is controlled by either chip z19, z21, z23 do you have the cpu board schematics? One of those chips has a bad leg.

Check the switch matrix and if there are more switches missing.

Has anyone worked on a solution for the older sys 1 to allow modification on the existing sound tones? Was wondering if there was a way to modify the sound on the existing board, or use the multitone, or aftermarket to get different sounds. For instance if you had Solar Ride and Dragon and wanted to distinguish the sounds between them. Something other than adding MP3 triggers or more exotic solutions.

On Rocky #672 you have a GONG ! Located at right side of the cabinet, it's a 5" bell. Reference of this "sound board" is MA-352
Fun to see the use of this electromechanical piece, as this 1982's model has also a sound board with speech (with SC-01).

OK... I got a Gottlieb system 1 Dragon machine... if I let it sit and turn it on, I can play it for a while... then after a few minutes it will go into a STUCK TILT... it is not actually a tilt... all of the tilt and slam switches are fine... any ideas?

Should I just chuck the original MPU?

Also where do I get pins and the tool to repin the connectors?

Also missing one part the metal plate/stop for one of the vari targets anyone got one? that was a lot

Thanks! Want to get this running 100%

I had a party last night and 4 score displays on volcano went out, then came back, then out. They would drop out from 15 to 30 minutes.

Only score displays go out. Credit display is still on.
Left it on for 1 hour today, and they are out again.

All ground mods are done and it has been repinned .
Any ideas?

According to these symptoms, it can only come from a defect of the 60V. The first thing to do is to check when the displays go off, that the 60 volts still arrives on the display blocks. Simply measure with a DMM on the chemical capacitor, on the right of the 7-digit display blocks (it has the 60V at his pins, and easy access). If no voltage is present, then sure the issue is here.
It will then be necessary to look for, why the 60 volts no longer reaches the displays. There is a good chance that this is a connector problem (broken weld) at the power supply board. Overall, the power supply board must work and produce 60 volts, because the 42 volts used by the small 4-digit display, is derived from this voltage.
Since the cut is intermittent and occurs when the power supply is hot, there is certainly a bad weld under the power supply board, maybe at the connector. Thus, with heat and expansion, the contact can fluctuate.
If you do not have skill for electronics, you can try exchanging the power supply with another to see if the phenomenon continues to happen or not.

Gottlieb Pinball Pool - will only accept one credit. Dip switch settings are for 15 max. Is this a bad RAM chip, or could it be something else? Curious where to start looking...

#3125 4 years ago

try setting the replay amount to say 10,000 pts , so every game you get a free game on the credits

OEM board? Those dip banks fail all the time. Check to see if it is actually working with your meter. My guess is you just have a failed dip switch bank.

Yes, original OEM board. I don't think there are any settings at all for 1 credit max, so I'm not sure how this could be the error.

My Monte Carlo has been working fine and all of the sudden there are 4 switches that won’t register. The left lock saucer, left ramp made switch, middle left top lane and the right inlane target switch that opens the right gate. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting this?

Check the connector pins.
Old and metal fatigue will break them.
Not to mention the battery residue is a killer too.

The 4 switches problem ended up being a broken wire under the playfield on one of the diode boards. Also found and fixed my random reset problem by flowing solder on the daughter board pins.

The only problem I can see now is my “5” insert light is constantly on in attract mode. Would that be a diode issue and where is that diode located?

Check Q39 on the driver board.
It's a MPS-A13 transistor.

Joined the 80b with an arena!
Trying to make it boot, have seen 2 blown 2n3055.

Don't know yet if there are other issues.

I changed the battery, should be 4.5V, right?

Turned out to be a bunch of cracked solder joints on the header off the power supply. Reflowed J1 and J2 . All is well.

Any ideas with Alien Star?

Just a 0 and a 4 on the displays.

The 4 is likely the Credits in the machine.
You have the 60v and the 42v that is derived from it. The displays use this power to light up.
With machine powered up, gently wiggle the J1 and J2 connectors on the power supply. DO NOT UNPLUG THEM WHILE MACHINE IS PLUGGED IN.
If the displays show some life, remove the PS, unsolder the large transistor and inspect the headers and reflow as necessary.

This is how I confirmed the source of my issue.

I'm not sure it's booted properly I can flip the flippers and manually trigger the pop bumpers. The 4 sometimes becomes as 9 or a 1.

On the same topic above the pin wiki states a single digit outage is likely a connection issue but I can’t get it resolved. Any other ideas on missing just 1 full digit?

I think it's a problem with the display itself. Have you exchanged the display position with another to see if the problem follows the display? Do this with the machine off and reboot and check. If that one digit problem shows up when its anywhere else it is the display. Likely the und6116 chip.

Had the same exact problem with one of my displays (see pics - still not repaired). I think traces/solder in back of display need to be reflowed, for mine. Connectors were fine since a display swap worked.

Hi guys,
Looking for the boards (driver; power, aux power) for a sys80b (arena).
Any idea where to buy some?
Anyone would have some second hand but working ones?

Hi, There are some MPU and sound cards for SYS80B for sell on "Leboncoin" site in France, close to you. You should have a look. Italia also with it's "Subito.it" may sometimes has something.

When you check in another location, and if it follows the display, also confirm that you do not have a broken trace where the pins go into the glass display.
