Quoted from cyroute:

It seems all the wire colors I have found that should have 5v are Blue/Gray stripe. The reason I thought the display was in play because it has a Blue/Gray with 5v going in but the other Blue/Gray on the other connector on the display doesnt have 5v its low like the the opto blue/gray and the pop bumper blue/gray wires.

From the manual it says the 5V wires are 688 blue with two gray stripes. Schematic show from the power supply pins 1 and 2 go to the MPU. Pin 3 to display. Pin 4 to sound card. Looks like the wire on pin 6 may go to the playfield and may be the one supplying the pop bumper boards and the opto board.

Can you follow those wires to see if one is cut or broken off?

Does anybody know where to find instructions to convert an 80A to an 80B? a guy I'm doing some work for wants me to try it he's running out of places to find 80B boards thanks

It should not be too hard to do.
There are some chips to be removed and jumpers to be placed.
A daughter or piggy bag board to be added.
There is much information on the http://www.pinwiki.com website.

What is the advantage in doing this conversion?

Pinwiki mentions the conversion and references "above" but doesn't actually have any information except that 80A boards are the same pdb as 80B. I'll keep digging.

On re-review, assuming it's as easy as remove these ics, put a socket at U3, add some jumpers then pinwiki does say what to do. Thanks for the info.

P.s.s. it looks like this section has undergone many edits over the last couple days.

I recommend this : https://lisy.dev/gottfa80.html

Have used it in Genesis, Black hole, TX Sector.
I also use this sound card in my (export) Black hole to get US sounds and speech : https://lisy.dev/gosof-dip.html

I made 5 of the Lisy 80s but he wants to keep them original. He's the biggest 80B collector I know so I'm not going to try and talk him out of it.

I have 1 spare Lisy 80 is someone is looking for 1.

Setup a watch list on ebay for rebuildable System 80B boards. One is bound to turn up.

Quoted from pincity:

Thanks! Appreciate the second opinion before I go pulling everything apart again.
I’ll double check the coil wiring today but I did take pictures too, so I’m pretty sure they’re wired how they were before the rebuild. When engaged they do require a bit of force to push them down. And of course if they’re pushed below a certain point the EOS closes and full power kicks in and the flipper bat kicks back up fully.
I plan to check the flipper set screws as well to make sure I have those tight enough!

Hey chuckwurt - the coil wiring was OK and I even re-soldered the connections and re-adjusted the EOS just in case, but no change. Compared the new parts vs. old parts and realized that the coil stops in my rebuild kit were a little different and a bit longer than my old ones (after some research, the old ones were proper, the new ones appear to have been intended for early System 1). Swapped in the old coil stops and they're holding strong! I'll pick up some new stops on my next PBR order but for now the Monte Carlo is flipping again!

Robotworkshop Well I found the issue it ended up being connector A1J6 on the MPU repinned that connector and all is good! Thanks for all the help!

On my Monte Carlo, most of the retaining clips on the board standoffs in the backbox have snapped off. I saw this thread which is helpful, but it deals with Volcano, a regular system 80 game https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/fyi-exact-replacement-gottlieb-sys-80-pcb-stand-offs#post-6444807.

Has anyone replaced the board standoffs on a system 80b? I wondered if it was necessary to pull the whole back panel of the head out to replace a standoff or if they could be unscrewed/unclipped from the front?

I've been having problems with my Raven with locked on lights, pop-up targets not working sometimes, & it getting stuck in a loop of the "pew-pew" attract mode while playing.
I traced the wiring to A3J4 & repinned it, but it was still acting up. I checked the voltage at A1J1 & it was all over the place - 11v, 8.5, v, 2v...
I adjusted the voltage as best as I could & lowering it got everything in the game working, but now I have no sound. The buttons don't even beep anymore.
I guess I'll disconnect A2J2, check the voltage & go from there. Pinsider erak replaced the pot a few years back, but I guess it could go over time.

#5068 4 months ago

With A2J2 disconnected, I set the voltage to 5.05v, but still no sound.
I thought that it could be something simple, so I checked the speaker connections & wiggled the wires of the SB connector. Don't know what did it, but the sound's back.

Question for you guys. I have a solar ride project that I picked up. I was troubleshooting tonight and the lower right kickout hole isn’t ejecting the ball. The top left one is working and I noticed they are wired differently I think. I noticed the top left one has the double wires going to the leg of the coil on the banded side and that one works. The lower right one has the double wire going to the non banded leg of the coil and isn’t working. Is the double wire supposed to be on the banded side of the coil on the lower right coil?

#5072 4 months ago

Follow up question. If it has been wired incorrectly should I be checking the corresponding transistor on the board? The boards look mint

Yes to both of your questions. The Gottlieb driver board is simple and fast to check using the diode test detailed on pinwiki. I've noticed some of the instructions can be hard to follow so figure out the test on a known good working transistor and then test the rest.

Question: is there a group like this for Sys3 games that I'm missing? I'd really love to get into understanding some of the programming of the roms on that system and would love someone to talk to.

(sub-text, Silver Slugger is a great game but the rules suck so hard. Looking to make them better)

Would love it if someone did custom roms for that.

#5076 4 months ago

I'd love to see custom ROMs for most of the System 3 games. Even if it's simply to equalize the random awards.

Anyone have a Bounty Hunter manual scan? Inbox me if you do and don't mind sharing. Thanks.

What would make it a great game is if the home run spinner/scoop combos were only lit for a home run after you knocked down the center drops in order (a-la Black Hole). Would be cool if the vari-target was only lit immediately after making the right in-lane (a-la Alien Star). It would also be nice if there as some sort of consistent way to lock balls. Boom. There. That's a good game.

Nope! Nicest one I’ve ever played and definitely deal with confidence with Darren, but out of my price range for a gottlieb game.

I have some spare Close Encounters of the Third Kind playfield parts here. They are for the EM, but a lot of the parts are the same on the SS version. I was going to junk them, but I wanted to offer them up to anyone that could use them first (just pay shipping). I have good documentation on where all the ball diverter wires go on the playfield. I don't mind splitting items up.

I just moved into a new appartment and decided to fill the hallway with framed backglasses. 6 of them in total, 3 of which are Gottlieb System 80s.

The plastic trim for the translite on my Genesis (system 80B) was falling apart and the lift edge on the bottom was damaged. Just received a fresh set and it holds the translite in place so much better.
I seem to have one minor issue to resolve. It seems that the new plastic lift edge on the bottom is just a little thicker than the original lift edge. Because of that it barely will go in the slot and I can’t lock it in place. Has anyone else run into this?
It looks like there are a couple options. I could slightly widen the slot so to new wider molding fits in or try to sand the back edge of the new lift channel but I’m concerned about weakening that. Seems like the best option may be to slightly widen the slot. It would still work with the

Went ahead and finally did the transformer ground mods on Robo-War earlier this week…prior to this, would get a very random issue with the extra ball lights locking on solid, and all the coils dying, that was remedied by a power cycle. Played about 20 games tonight, and nary a hiccup.

Weird having wire nuts in a game, but she’s ran flawless since.

Hey guys, a quickie as I can't search thread ATM.

Just got a Tx sector day before a tournament... Not used to Gottliebs so I have no idea how you turn extra ball on or off.

Currently it's on.
Is it one dip switch?

Hi, I'm putting the boards back in my Spiderman after many years of having all boards removed... there are no pics of the board set on the IPDB... I'm sure I've put the main CPU in the right place, but I'm only 99.9% sure the driver board underneath it is correct... I've loosely hung it on the pins to take a photo... is that the correct board and in the correct place?

If anyone has a photo of the entire board set installed so I can identify the other missing boards that would be awesome!

Thanks!!

The board on the upper left should be the power supply. It should be on a metal plate the mounts the the two metal brackets shown in your picture.

Bottom left board is sound btw.

Thanks, yes I had the feeling the bottom left is sound... it has a numbered chip on it (656) which I'm guessing identifies which game that particular chip is for... and since this game is 653, I guess it means I need to change that chip... or find another sound board that has the 653 chip in it... is that how it works with these games? I did come across another sound board with a chip 661 in it... if these numbers really are to link the boards to specific games, there must be a list somewhere that shows which game is which number...?

So I need to find a power supply board to make the boards complete... if someone has a photo of what that looks like it would be cool!

Thanks!!
