Quoted from practicalsteve:

Finally got mine! It’s rough but I hope it will clean up nice. I have two playfields to work with so should make for one decent game. One playfield is nice enough but it’s got some age to it.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Have fun getting it up and going. If you decide to sell off some pieces on your spare playfield hit me up. 2 items I'd like to pick up.

I’ll let you know when I get it squared away and sorted.

I finally found the pictures I have been looking for. My wife and I were going to a Miami Vice event so I figured using Hollywood Heat in the background. I had put the color changing LED on the pop bumper, colored LEDs on the slings and used El wire for a neon tube look. I bought the el wire on ebay and it plugs into the service outlet inside. Really gives it the neon southbeach glow. A white Ferrari matchbox car fit perfectly above the 123 targets.

Anybody got a pice of the top right ball gate that pulls up on the spring switch. The one behind the upper right corner plastic? I have some piano wire to make a new gate but no pics of how its bent.

#156 3 years ago

I had a Gold Wings but never got around to fixing it up and ended up selling it and couple of other conked-out pins when I needed to make room in the garage... if it had been Hollywood Heat I think I would have stuck with it, liked it better in the arcades back in the 80s, the now-nostalgic pf artwork and the Hot Shot ramp are cool.

This machine is sitting; waiting to be restored. It's wild to see the grime when zoomed in for photos.

Just joined the club with this dirty girl last night!

Questions for the gang: Anyone have an extra headbox key, or a link to a replacement? The coin door had no lock to begin with, so I got that open no problem. I’d rather not drill the lock if I don’t have to.

Also, are ramps still being made? If not, anyone have a spare repro they’d like to sell? I’d prefer purple, but would be open to any.

Looking forward to making this my summer project!

Congrats. I purchased a ramp from Vandelay Industries (aka Ramp-O-Matic) before the Covid shut-down.

I see all 4 colors are listed as out-of-stock, now made-to-order.

I am currently sold out, but am planning to run a big batch of these when I get back from vacation, which would be the week of the 29th. I am still waiting on raw material to come in, but I think I should have it by then.

Any T-molding suggestions? My molding is smoked and needs to be replaced for sure. Just wondering if anyone in the group went with anything less traditional.

My buddy used chrome on his. Looks great!
If you look closely, you'll see one of JodyG's ramps installed too.

Has anyone used lighted T-Molding? I curious if the photos they supply are true to life or if the camera over-exposed the lights.

They look bright, bit I worry they'll look like a series of dots instead of continuous, flowing light.

Ill try and post here since i suspect my post in the Gottlieb thread keeps "drowning in the flood" LOL

"Ok, i got this weird ROM problem, after i did some romchip juggling (to test MPU board from a Goldwings) my comrade managed to put int he ROM2 chip in backwards in my Hollywood Heat MPU, which we all know pops the chip dead, so i got the "Missing ROM2" message after booting HH up, and i figured i do a quick reburn a new ROM2 with a brand new chip, and now the "Missing ROM2" message is gone, but the game doesnt boot anymore, it lights up the backbox and a load of lamps on the playfield and also have a section of attractmode going (Extra ball and Bonus multiplier strips) but nothing more, even with the quick ON/OFF trick. did i burn the romchip wrong? faulty but brand new chip? is there some trick to burning Gottlieb roms? i used the modded "free credits" Roms you can get from flipprojets.fr and changed the dipswitches to match."

I checked the volts and the soldering on the chip socket and everything is fine in that regard.

Anyone ever touch up the paint on the cab? I'd be interested in hearing colors and method suggestions.

Also, was thinking about repainting the side rails and lockdown bar as the black paint has largely worn off (as is the case for many HH). Anyone have any paint or method suggestions for that as well?

I did this to mine, since it had been sitting humid before i got it.

The ROM2 sits right on the board though, in a socket. You think it could be ROM1 even though it said "ROM2 missing" before i recoded it?

The trouble spot with the piggyback board is it's connection under the piggyback pcb to the mpu. Tread lightly with this, it's easy to make this worse. It's a difficult place to repair.

Tell me about it, i always feared that error, and i know of that "home-made" fix for it, might have to look into that.

Anyone know the correct size rubber for this area? This game had rubbers that just dissolved to dust, so I can’t judge it against what was there before.

The manual says 1”, but there is ZERO shot that a 1” rubber is going to stretch that far. I’ve seen some images where a large rubber stretched all the way across, one with a large rubber and a mini post rubber on the end, and then one with what appears to be a 1” covering just the top two posts and nothing but bare metal for the bottom two (obviously wrong).

Thanks!

I ended up going 1.5”. If it isn’t right, it’s gotta be very close. I could have stretched it beyond the far post, but think it’s better off as-is.

Attaching a few pics of my Hollywood Heat reado to Miami Vice. The game functions and works great, I've done all the ground mods and rebuilt new rubbers and such. Since I was redoing it over to a Miami Vice game, some of the cosmetics need to be redone.

Looking for a few parts, any links or direction would be great!
1) Clear pop bumper or at least bumper cap for the top pop bumper
2) A decal set (if it exists) for the "1 2 3" numbers on the top of the playfield. My #2 and #3 are in pretty rough shape
3) Purple leg protectors (the only set I see online that are purple would have to come from Australia

My mods so far are
1) Complete LEDs, purple LED under the glass in the front of the game and in the ball trough, lighted flipper and start buttons (Comet Pinball)
2) Custom made translight (Signarama)
3) Mini TV with Sound (@crazymuffin)
4) External speaker with bluetooth and Alexa capabiliy (Amazon)
5) Under cabinet LEDs (Amazon)
6) Toy Matchbox Ferrari Daytona, Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach, Scarab (Ebay)
7) Flamingo Topper (Amazon)

Future Mods
1) Clear Pop Bumper (need to source)
2) Miami Sideblades (Retro Refurbs...stuck in customs in NYC)
3) Purple leg protectors (need to source)
4) LED lighted bumper posts (comet pinball, on order now)
5) Miami Vice decals (redbubble)

Any help with sourcing the parts I'm looking for would be greatly appreciated.

My next pinball will be a Top Gun redo using either F14 Tomcat or Gold Wings as a base.

Can anyone confirm the orientation of this connector? I thought I had a pic but don’t and it’s not keyed. Do the two empty slots go on the left or right?

My game is burning up some fuses. It seems to really love fuses 10, 11, and 12- these all drive solenoids.

Things to know
Has a new rottendog driver board
Ground mods have been done
MPU to Driver interconnect has been repinned.

Any help appreciated.

Oh I guess I’ll update that my fuse issue above was fixed by installing a new fuse block.

More exciting than that though is my new custom translite is done!

Are you thinking about making these available for purchase!?

#192 3 years ago
Quoted from Lopa:

Are you thinking about making these available for purchase!?

Kinda, I had one guy contact me about getting one and I’m going to see how it goes. I’m not trying to print a bunch ahead of time and then ship them, so I’m seeing how having it shipped directly from the printer goes. It would keep the cost way down, mine was around $40 printed and shipped and I’m thinking of asking for $20 for my troubles. So let me see how this first one goes and I’ll update you.

Pinball on, Bromatoes!

#194 3 years ago
Quoted from Lopa:

Are you thinking about making these available for purchase!?

Ok so I facilitated getting someone one of my alternate translites and it was pretty painless and the guy was happy so I will help others if they want one as well.

I had it shipped directly from the printer, I’m on the west coast and he was on the east coast and the cost was pretty much the same in both directions. It was approx $40 shipped and I’m adding on $20 for my troubles and to offset my design costs. So it’s about $60 shipped. The reason for this is I don’t want my artwork file to just be out there for anyone to use, and I don’t want to deal with shipping it myself.

I’ll post some photos later but I want to stress these look great but aren’t absolute perfection. The HEAT logo looks slightly jagged up close and the background has a little bit of banding if you look up close. It also looks dark when you take it out of the box (see photo) but that’s not a concern as it lights up nice in the game. I’ll post some pics tonight. I used posterprintshop online BTW if anyone is curious and wants to do their own thing. It was super easy to use. Their turnaround was also pretty damn fast, it got to both of us within a week of ordering.

Let me know.
