The Bonus stepper on the Hokus Pokus I just started working on was seized up. After taking it apart and cleaning everything, it now counts up smoothly but only counts down once. This is all being done manually.

I went through this post to see what’s wrong with my Bonus unit to no avail:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bally-hokus-pokus-not-counting-bonus

When I compare it’s operation to the operation of the Credit unit (has all the same pieces to it), the black cam never releases the Bonus unit wheel as the down-plunger activates. The black cam is next to the coil in the second photo.

Nothing appears to be different between the stepper setups so I can’t figure out why one works and one does not.

Also, on the first photo, the switch stack on the stepper is never opening or closing. This was mangled and I had to straighten it out, I think I messed this up. The plastic leg that should actuate the switch stack never reaches it.

Thanks in advance

Alberto

Dave

The white pin is at the zero position so I think I need to adjust the position of the switch stack.

I’m still trying to figure out why mechanically the stepper won’t step down.

If you have a chance, a photo of the stepper would be helpful.

Quoted from pinballdaveh:

I think both switches should be under the support instead of split up.

That was it for the switch! The whole stack needed to be on the bottom.

Now to figure out why that black cam does not move correctly.

I think I found the cause. The two photos below show the stepper cams as it steps up and down.

First photo is the cams after trying to step down, the cams don’t fully seat into the teeth of the stepper wheel.

Second photo is the cams after a step up. The cams are fully seated in the stepper wheel.

I just don’t know how to adjust this Bally stepper
