Key Words are PLAN ON !!!!!
Quoted from swedishc:The production value of the LCD animations seem much higher than what was used for WOZ.
This game is just looking better and better with each update.
Well, I think the production value of The Hobbit movie is a bit higher as the 75 year old movie as well.
Just what I was hoping for. Take the JJP technology but apply it against a much more exciting theme. This should be their big hit.
Quoted from jayhawkai:I look forward to picking up my game from you and wrecking your toilet.
LOL funny - Customers get to use EVERY toilet in the house for # 1, # 2, throwing up... doesn't matter...cause that's how I roll...
That layout looks nice. I love open middle playfields where you make long shots, and those side flippers look interesting as well. The layout is somewhat reminiscent of MM. I wasn't a fan of WoZ theme, but I am a die-hard Tolkien fan, so I'm really looking forward to playing this one eventually. Owning it on the other hand would require selling all 3 of my beloved machines unfortunately...
Quoted from bemmett:Wow it's almost hilarious the angry and scared mob was out earlier this week and the end of civilization and JJP was at hand and they could do no right.......
Then JJP shows a few Hobbit update pictures and videos and all is forgotten and they are the best and greatest again!

So if one were to lose the Packer logo on your avatar, credibility would be greatly heightened
Quoted from beatmaster:is it going to be another low scoring game?those high scores are pretty damn low.
i like it when you get the one million call out/sound effect, the feeling of accomplishment.
I had a pinball party last weekend with friends unfamiliar with pins, and they all wanted to play Frankenstein since it is easy to get "MILLION!" callouts on it, and didn't want to play Gofers or RFM because of the lower scoring. They automatically thought they "did worse" on those machines. Probably good they weren't playing on a WOZ. lol
Quoted from blondetall:Probably good they weren't playing on a WOZ. lol
but is you adjust for inflation (1939 to 2014) a 500,000 score is actually worth approximately 8 Million
Nice update, for speculation realizing this is an incomplete whitewood, where does the ball go when it get's behind either of the upper flippers (looks like a spidey sense shot intended or not is possible)?

I agree, I mean scoring like AFM and TOM is way over the top, but MM level scoring at least would be nice... As trivial as it is, that's one of my problems with WOZ, the extremely low scoring even still I love the game.
That said, I have my pre-order in either way, that's not changing.

I would use LOTR as the benchmark, it will be strange that Hobbit scoring is lower than LOTR.
(or maybe Jack is just a really poor player!)
Ummm Smaug is pretty much fully revealed in the second film that is now out... I'm looking forward to them showing more of the upper playfield this has a lot of potential - and the visual artwork for the display is truly groundbreaking for this hobby... and the SOUND quality of WOZ being furthered in the hobbit - can't wait!
Would be cool with a real fire breathing smaug! Smaug Will live, not done before as far as i know. Not sure if it would be possible to do safely though but maybe with some gas torch thing =)
This looks really cool! I love how the pop-up trolls/goblins/whatever they're going to be block the main shots from the lower flippers. Should make it an adventure to get the ball where you want it to go, having to use the upper flippers to move it to where the action is. And I see they've drilled holes for GI this time around! Yay!
Quoted from jfh:That really depends on when the have access to the assets from the third movie. They have to have time to update graphics, art, video and game play to incorporate stuff from the last movie in the trilogy.
They already have access to all that stuff. They are only not allowed to show anything without permission.
The low scores strike me as a design decision. Inflated scores take more digits, and thus more space on the multitasking display.
I couldn't care less, i don't compare scores between different games, it's all relative. I guess I do like that Hobbit can break a million though.

WOZ can break a million

I agree about it being a design decision, which actually seems to work ok on WOZ , but I think an extra 0 at the end, would be well worth the time investment to add it. It should be comparable to what it will getting compared to at times, LOTR.
Even being relative to the game your playing, as stupid as it is, the slightly higher score is still more appealing. Except when it becomes ridiculously inflated.

It seems like x20 would put it closer to LOTR than x10, but that depends on how good of a game these high scores are.
Chalk me up with the people who don't care about the scoring. I mean, it probably feels like your getting more money if somebody pays you with 10,000 pennies but its still $100.00 any way you look at it.

Yes this is true, but half the appeal of pinball is "how it feels". If someone won the jackpot at the casino and the machine rang some bells and 10,000 pennies came gushing out, it would be more exciting than $100 bill just spitting out the side. (more annoying to clean up for sure though lol, but luckily you dont have to clean up pinball machine points off the floor)

+1
Quoted from HoakyPoaky:I'd much rather see higher scoring in the millions. I thought WOZ had low scoring for an old-time nastalgia feeling?
Well, that was Jack's excuse, anyway.
Maybe the people of middle-earth just can't count higher than 9 million.

I m more concerned with the proposed flippers for TH....

The best non-actually-damaging way to get this effect that comes to my mind is strands of fiber optic popping out of his mouth for a moment. But that may just look cheesy, tho that never stopped JJP before.

You could put a fan in the dragon's mouth, silk paper and LEDs that would trigger at certain times and that would look like real flames.

I dont really care if its high or low score numbers as it is all relative to just the game your playing at the time, what would be neat though would be a game where the goal IS to get as low a score as possible. I mean always start at a billion points (or whatever) and go down from there, just something a bit different sorta like Brewsters millions.

I used that technique on my Batcade for flames that shoot out the back of the cabinet.

Quoted from Ice9ers:Game play enjoyment is all that matters to me. I have a WW. Not high scoring by comparison to most DMD's but it's a keeper. But I am so confused on choosing between keeping my MMRLE order (love MM) or changing it to THLE ( don't love WOZ).
I was in that exact same boat. If I could afford both I would get both but I can't. I decided to go with The Hobbit as while I enjoy MM for the same price, $8k (or $7.5k with preordering Sept 13) I would be getting a pinball machine with the latest tech in pinball, a loaded wide body game, game with an LCD, some similar elements to MM and a quest based ruleset from Keith and Ted. After I thought about that it was an easy decision to make. MM is still an amazing pin but I just can't afford that and a Hobbit plus I'm a huge fan of the books and films.

Pretty much what I said too, after the initial gold fever wore off. I dropped my MMRLE for a THLE
Yes, tough choices. Actually, I was in for a Hobbit from Day One, but I am still trying to figure out if I can afford to buy anything else. I am selling a couple of pins with a view to getting a ST-LE, but that still leaves the MMR question open. The good news is that these pins will be available HUO for many, many years to come. It is easy to think that you have to buy now, but that's not the case (that is, unless you insist on NIB). Patience is a virtue, but that is easy to say!

Exactly what I was thinking. No real fire, but some of those look real good!

That's actually pretty cool. It sounded cheesy when described- but it looks pretty slick.

It is what I plan on doing to my WOZECLE topper when I get the game. I hope to make it interactive.
I think The Hobbit is going to have one heck of a deep ruleset based off of what we saw in the video. Here's where I'm thinking the rules are going. This is going to be something new for pinball when you toss in the LCD display.
1. Each players goal is travel the path of Bilbo, the Dwarf's and Gandalf from the point where they arrive at Bilbo's house all the way towards the end of the last movie.
2. We can see the green, red and yellow markers on the map of Middle Earth in the center of the screen. Each marker represents a player. If a character is in mission in Lake Town then his marker will be there on the map while another player could still be all the way back in the Shire.
3. Each point where a player stops in Middle Earth will represent one of the games missions.
Other guesses
1. Defeating Smaug will be a wizard mode similar to Destroy the Ring in LOTR and Battle the Wicked Witch in WOZ. I don't see defeating Smaug being a There and Back Again or Somewhere Over the Rainbow type wizard mode as people are going to want to fight the dragon on a good to great game.
2. The title of the last movie is called "There and Back Again". I think this will be the games final wizard mode where you somehow have to go back through Middle Earth on the display / game and get back to the Shire.
3. There will be a mode where you go back and forth with Golumn with riddles. Beating this mode and others will award you a reward.
4. Rewards along the way will include the key into the Lonely Mountain, the ring, and Bilbo's sword Sting.
