^^^ An update^^^
Thank goodness an update, instead of people ragging about the delays, Jacks behaviour, etc..etc.. God Bless you GravitaR

But I will say they're both widebody pins, with LCD displays, RGB lighting, etc.

True. But that's where the comparison ends for me. I think the photos below offer the "tale of the tape." Would I be happy if the Hobbit was already in my house? Of course. But I'll wait a little longer for what I think will be the deeper, more majestic, more visually stunning of the two pins.

What's the update? They're selling translites while people are still waiting for machines. Should probably release the swag at the same time as the machines hit production. You can downvote me all you want, GravitaR, but I actually have a Hobbit on order so I'm entitled to be frustrated.

BTW...I think they'll be in production in the next four weeks.

Just seems like a lot of talk ab a pin that not a lot are buying. I do think Alien looks good. Just thought this was a Hobbit thread.

Good point, Goronic. That’s probably why you have the Gandalf avatar – because you’re a wise man! To be fair, I edited my last post to show a fully populated FT playfield. All and still, I think TH is far superior in aesthetics, sound (let’s not forget about David Thiel), lightshow, theme, code, etc. In Full Throttle, you’re taunted by your rival – Francisco Valentino. Not sure about the rest of you guys, but I’ll prefer a verbal jest from Smaug the Magnificent any day of the week!

Most people had a lot of positive to say about the title at ReplayFX and I think it impressed people more than they thought...

But as much as we all harp for original themes... and say themes don't make/break a game... I think the theme here and lack of attachment for most people is hurting this game.. along with the idea of a new company, new ideas, etc.

I was at Kohls, and I think I saw the inspiration for the Full Throttle playfield art on a rug.

Played Full Throttle at Pintastic and Replay. Great game...I'm just not into the theme.

Jesus f'n christ, you try and say something positive about The Hobbit and all people can do is turn it into a pissing contest. This doesn't have to be about my brand dick is better than your brand dick. I like all pinball. If JJP or Stern or anyone else makes a great game then it's a good thing. I'm super excited for Rob Zombie from Spooky too, can't wait to see the reveal.

Buy the Hobbit, I hope it ships soon, and that's it a great game. I hope it's so good that I'm sorry it's too expensive for me. I don't actually think that will be the case based on what I played at Expo, but I'd be happy to be wrong. JP did a killer job redoing the playfield, I told him so. Thiel is awesome. Keith is the man. Jack is an ass at times, and I don't like how he treats this forum, but I truly believe he wants to make great pinballs, and I do respect that.

But your game can be good with just that. If you don't want Full Throttle then don't buy it. I only brought it up to say it took this long to get to shipping, it's not just a JJP problem. It was supposed to be a "we're all in this together" comment, and of course people have to twist it.

Those photos aren't even from the final Full Throttle game. Might as well post the old Hobbit playfield while you're at it.

Threads often get derailed when theres nothing to update regarding the product itself. Well there is the selling of translites in the JJP store but otherwise?

#7869 4 years ago

Threads get derailed by those that want attention and seek drama. All permitted by pinside rules so the cycle repeats itself endlessly Hazoff.

Hmmm, now you know how Jack feels about this forum.

The difference is I'm not actually mad, and I'm not PMing 20 people and reporting all the posts I don't like to the mods.

There should be real Hobbit news in 4 days though right? Isn't the party on the 29th?

#7873 4 years ago

Due to budget and licensing issues this game is now based on the Finnish Television version of the Hobbit from the 90s. Looks awesome though.

cite="#2638759">Nope. And I'm unlikely to ever buy any JJP honestly, for one simple reason: they're too expensive. Someone just started that "what's your max?" thread about buying pinballs, and I said the most I've ever spent is $7200 (METLE), and I hope to never top that. I'd maybe consider it if I could get one for $7500 shipped, I could push my price point a little, but that's already stretching it, and I think the standards are at least $8k now right? And shipping on top of that? Not 100% sure.

Full Throttle LE is over $9,000 US Dollars plus shipping.

I purchased Hobbit Smaug LE for $7,500 including shipping.

In my opinion Hobbit appears to better bang for the buck. Bonus having my preorder money with Jack and not in the market saved me some coin. : ((

Aurich, Jack does say some things that can rub us Pinsiders the wrong way but the guy is passionate about pinball! So I take some bad with a lot of the good. I like the fact he is on here on giving his opinion Good, Bad or Ugly. Hobbit updates have been few and far between, so what the hell are these guys gonna talk about if Jack doesn't come on and stir things up from time to time. : ))

This can't be true. Epic fail if it is.

That's probably going to wind up being a great deal when you get your pin. I don't have the stomach for the pre-order train (I'd have gone insane with the pin being this late) but at least it will probably pay off for you guys who had the patience/balls to stick with it.

It says US $7950 plus shipping from Chicago on their website. Standard is $6150.

Where did you pull that $9k number from?

$7500 is a solid price, and with shipping? Awesome. I could hang with that. But that's seriously the upper limit of what I can justify spending on a freaking pinball. As much as I love the hobby there gets to be a point where it's too nuts. I make pretty decent money, but I'm not rolling in it. Upper middle class, not rich. And after a while it's just too crazy for me. I could buy it if I really wanted it, it's not outside my reach, but it's hard to justify.

Why do people say that he is passionate about pinball? He saw a growing market and jumped in to make cash. That is all I see. He wasn't a member here until he had something to sell. What gives people this idea? There is a lady that has bagged my groceries for over 20 years. I said "wow you've been here so long now you must love it. Wish I could find people that stay like you." She replied she hated it but it was close to her house and gave her money to go shopping for herself every two weeks. The only thing I have seen from him personally is he is passionate about talking. A 2 min. phone call is like 20+ mins.

I went on H.P.'s site and converted the discount price of 5,750 english pounds for a Full Throttle LE to US Dollars = $9,032

Why would you do that when they have a American price listed on the order sheet? $7,950 plus shipping.

Stern doesn't sell a Pro for 3,300 Pounds. There's more to selling in a different country than currency conversion.

The U.S. price is quoted right on the site. And shipping is local, not overseas, from US distribution site. So same price as JJP or Stern to ship.

If we're gonna compare dicks you can't suddenly hand me a ruler with longer inches!

I just clicked buy and the price defaulted to English Pounds.

Looks like the U.S. price is $7,950, plus shipping, plus $200 for credit card payment, getting very close to $9,000 delivered.

$7,500 Hobbit Smaug LE delivered is looking more and more like a deal but you gotta ride the preorder roller coaster.

We should probably blame Aurich for the Hobbit being so late! If it wasn't for his so many great ideas Hobbit would be rolling down the line by now. Seriously, great job Aurich my Hobbit will be a whole lot better because of you!!!

I am very excited to see Alien knowing you are involved in the art.

I'm not sure really how much $ anyone makes in this relatively small market and seems like one most have passion to do the work to get into this. However I'm great with people who have a strong passion and can find ways to make $ with their passion unlike the grocery bag lady who hates her job. Not to judge her as she has legit reasons to stay there. However I think if anyone of us could whether related to pinball or not, in an deal world we love to make decent or even better $ at something we love, versus tolerating, to do.

But back on TH I'm not buying one yet, but I suspect like WOZ, once released I won't be able to resist. This being said by a guy who before had never spent about half for a pin before buying a barely used WOZ. Have played TH at two shows and really impressed by the whole package.

One year and 7900 posts.

And all I've learned regarding The Hobbit is that translights are now available.

Except they're not, actually. JJP has them listed as sold out currently.
