Our Hobbit machine in Kfar Saba, Israel, has started to get major issues. Wasn't upgraded to the latest code because of the computer specs there (A motherboard should be replaced for that). One of the pop up targets doesn't rise, some of them don't detect hits or hits are registered randomly, and the DWARF Drop targets are sunken on their right (This causes the "F" target to rise for a millisecond and to drop immediately)... The kickback sometimes works (A problem that this machine had out of the box). Right flipper sometimes gets stuck. Any tips on fixing those? I will send those tips to the machine owners.

First of all, you don’t need to change motherboards to run 3.10. What the note means is that IF ever you need to replace your hobbit motherboard you need to be running at least 3.0 to use that new board. Update yours to 3.10 software.

The beast mechs all have scoring switches behind the figurines and they may need adjustment. Test them in either beast mech test or matrixed switch test and see if they are scoring properly. They might need adjustment (adjust the rear blade only not the front blade - leave the front blade alone). If the switches are too close, the vibration of raising can cause the beast hit switch to score thus it will drop immediately. If the hit switches don’t work at all, check to see if the wires have gotten cut or pinched underneath (that’s a common hobbit thing).

Kickback (windlance) is probably the rollover switch in its lane needing an adjustment to make it read correctly as the ball passes over it. Tests - switch tests- matrixed switch test then roll the pinball over it slowly and then more rapidly and see if it is in need of a little adjustment.

The DWARF bank has a little plastic shelf that holds the target in the up position - that could be broken or cracked OR there are adjustment screws (long thin 1 size philips) at the bottom of each of the 11 drop targets - if they have spun too low or fallen out from repeated drop target pounding, the targets will sit too low in the hole (they will not be flush with the playfield surface when in the down position). This means they won’t come up and catch on the shelf properly when the game lifts them up. Look under there, adjust and or find and install the white nylon adjustment screws if they’ve fallen into the cabinet and spin them up to their proper spots so that the F and all the other targets are flush with the playfield wood when in the down position.

Thanks for the tips @Pinballomatic. I will send this to the boss of the place that has this machine (It's not mine anyway).

Tell him to go over the bottom of the playfield. I had screws laying in the bottom of the cabinet and loose components on the top side of the playfield (the upper pop bumper gate and both hole back stops were floppy loose). As long as he is the first owner hes got a year warranty. If he's unable to figure out the drop target issues tell him to use the online support and request new drop target banks. Theres a hobbit owners thread that has quick links to common issues and their fixes.
