Wonder if those axes are interactive?!?

EDIT:
More from jjp; love their updates:

Joe and the Team are going full out on The Hobbit Trilogy. Joe says "This design is going together better than any layout I have ever done. It will include several different elements than my other games. It is a more expansive flowing game with fast shots and multiple ramps. The main mechanism is Smaug which will be very interactive. The game includes subways and a mountain-scape. Aside from WOZ Joe has designed some of the best loved highest earning games including our own TheWizard of Oz, The Simpson's Pinball Party and South Park. Joe continued; "We are all having a lot of unexpected fun creating this game"

Here we go !!!! Sweet !!

#6 10 years ago

I wonder why that insert between the arrows is off center like that. Looks a little odd.

#7 10 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

I bet those axes are on a special shaped rod that is connected to the slingshot coil so when the sling's fire it looks like the axe's chopping downward as well. Very clever.

#8 10 years ago

this machine has some serious potential.

#9 10 years ago
Quoted from riggy469:

I wonder why that insert between the arrows is off center like that.

It could line up with artwork and not actually be a mode insert.

#10 10 years ago

I want back in now, ha!

#12 10 years ago

Maybe this is common knowledge, but is this a wide body?

#13 10 years ago

I like the BK2K lightning bolt insert.. (BK2K fans rejoice if they are the same size!)

So now we know there are at least 2 metal ramps...

#14 10 years ago
Quoted from jrivelli:

Yes.

Jack once said all of his pins would be widebodies.

#17 10 years ago

Are you guys really getting excited over that pic? I would of though the news from the email regarding Smaug was something to get excited about.

Looking good so far!

#19 10 years ago

Looks like a good start. I like the double inlanes.

#20 10 years ago

Looks like standup targets in the outlanes, but no pop bumper this time. Nudging required!

Getting excited...though it will still be a while.

#24 10 years ago

Artwork seems lacking.

10K by Xmas (2014)

#26 10 years ago

It's not much, but I'm digging the bottom layout so far. Relatively unique double inlanes on both sides, and return of the kickback! I'm not a WOZ fan, but credit where credit is due. Thumbs up so far.

Quoted from davewtf:

Very interesting.

I wonder if they are setting themselves up to be the company with "slower" pins?

(Loaded with features, of course...).

#29 10 years ago

I still worry about using the same designer on consecutive games. I like Joe, and I own TSPP and soon a WOZ, but I was really hoping for Nordman before he left. It would've been great if John Trudeau had been snatched up by JJP. I'm probably gonna have to wait until I see what he has in store for us before I buy another NIB. I've missed Trudeau. The Hobbit movie (Part 1) was a very dry experience for me too. Room for all of them though. Best of luck to all of them.

looks like that rectangular insert at the top isn't centered?

#31 10 years ago

I'm liking what I see so far

Looks very nice so far I must say. I love kickbacks so they've made me smile there too. The artwork previewed is very smart and tasteful so... keep it up guys!

Oh wait, I'm not yet convinced about that group making the music from checking their back catalogue. Yeah. there's my moan.

#34 10 years ago

Looks relatively barren v. WOZ. Would rather see the other end of the playfield.

#35 10 years ago
Quoted from toyotaboy:

It does but we also won't know what art is there and if it needs to be off centered to accomodate the artwork

#36 10 years ago

Hoping the improve the speed and flow compared to WOZ. Hard to tell from this small portion.

#37 10 years ago

OH SH-- SON! FLIPPERS, INSERTS *AND* SLINGSHOTS! BEST. PINBALL. EVER!

3 lanes on each side, it's like Future Spa without the bottom right crazy area!

#38 10 years ago
Quoted from chocky909:

I love kickbacks so they've made me smile there too.

Me too!

#39 10 years ago

Looks like it has a raisable block between the flippers, no?

#40 10 years ago

Why aren't the flippers SWORDS? Then it would be like you're sword fighting! It could be JJPs calling card. Things Stuck On Flippers©

I love games with flippers!
...just saying

#42 10 years ago
Quoted from nephasth:

That would be nice! But it could also just be a Special, or Extra Ball light, right?

#43 10 years ago
Quoted from CaptainNeo:

looks like a 6k or - game to me.

$6K in Neo dollars is about $9K in the real world.

#44 10 years ago

gigantic left outlane with the kickback.

#45 10 years ago

Looks cool...nothing groundbreaking, but I like what is there. The plunger lane looks to start to curve left ala TSPP or JP. I like the kickback and axes too. Possible targets in outlines are interesting...

#46 10 years ago

And I hope the battle axes don't move every time the slings fire. That sounds like it would be cool, but it would be annoying as heck after a while. Maybe that's not what the drawing is showing any way.

The bottom of the playfield resembles a widebody version of Baywatch (with an extra left inlane). I think it looks promising and I like that it has two return ramps to the flippers.-a sign of a flow game.

finally a kickback!

Looks to be about the same size and location as the one on Stern's Harley Davidson. But yes, it may just be an insert. Personally, I like just having a little post in the drain.
