Quoted from MacJedi:

Do you guys think we are going to get another software update that adds WiFi support and Scorbit support like JJP just did for GnR? It has been a while since we have gotten a software update on Hobbit.

Yes, it will come.

Quoted from Lermods:

What’s Scorbit?

Long story.

The best way to learn more is to either visit the Pinside thread here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/scorbit-official-thread

Quoted from Travahontas:

I noticed some of the features are even backward compatible to old scores - sweet!!

Yeah, we have so many features we're just bottlenecked about creating the user interfaces for them all. A good problem to have!

Hey folks, just a reminder: Scorbit is free for JJP games. I have read some posts around that people are confused about that... Scorbit has been free for JJP and always as been.

Quoted from Spacemanratso09:

I guess I need to be at 3.11 I’m at 3.10

Generally you do need to be on the latest code for Scorbit. The new stuff with achievements isn't out for Hobbit yet (soon), but the rest is available now.

#10787 2 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

Doesn't the machine need to be connected to Scorbit too ?
LTG : )

We recommend that you connect the game to WiFi based on the JJP instructions for that process.

Some tips on that front:

- Not all wifi dongles are the same. Using JJP's recommended USB connector makes a huge difference because it's been tested.

- Arcades/bars are rough environments for WiFi. Ideally, you can set up a unique SSID specifically for your games, but in absence of that, considering using 2.4Ghz instead of 5Ghz because it goes through walls/machines better.

- Once connected, perform a network test from the JJP menu, and ensure it says CONNECTED.

- After all the above is complete, follow the directions on the Scorbit menu with the QR code. If your machine is already in the Scorbit app, it works the same way, scan the code and it will "pair" the game to the virtual version in Scorbit.

- Once your game is paired, go to the Account menu > My Venues > [Venue Name]. Click on the "Players" section and add any users on Scorbit that you want to be able to find/play your machines. If the venue is Public, this is not necessary, but if it's Private, you will need them on this list.

#10790 2 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

I did all that.
Just no interest in connecting my game to Scorbit.
LTG : )

Ah, I see. No, they are two separate options. You can be connected to WiFi for updates/etc. and not connect to us.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't want the achievements/etc., and it doesn't cost anything, but your choice is yours.

#10794 2 years ago
Quoted from fnosm:

I'm not sure why the achievements would be worth the effort. Also not sure why JJP seems hell bent to release updates that only enhance scorebit options on their machines when we would really much rather have updates that improve game play. However if it took scorebit to get JJP to add online updates then it is definitely worth it. USB updates are so yesterday

Scorbit, by the way, not scorebit.

Once you're online, you move to a more "continuous integration" level which means you can push updates that are small without any effort. It's different when you're on a longer release cycle.

JJP did WiFi completely on their own, because they thought it was a good feature for owners. Scorbit (us) created our platform independently, it works with hundreds of game titles. JJP decided it would be a nice gift, for free, to add achievements to their games for users.

This all being said: You lose nothing if you don't connect, the game still plays wonderfully, and is not missing any features as a result! This isn't a network which will hobble you for not participating online.

#10799 2 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

From your website : Operators pay per machine/per month,
That sounds like it costs something.
LTG : )

No it's free for JJP users, and it's free for players. It costs money if you get our hardware for vintage machines.

#10800 2 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

I thought there was something about first year free for ops and then a fee ?
And I could remotely access the machine. Then so could Scorbit, and anybody breaking into your system. I'm not comfortable with that. For a variety of reasons.
LTG : )

No, not for JJP machines. It only costs money if there is hardware from us that we're managing. Also different pricing for home use (Standard) versus operator use (Pro), and many operators don't need "pro features," so it really does depend on a lot of factors.

As for breaking into your system, I have no idea why someone would break into a system, but I think it's totally a respectable point of view to not connect IoT devices in your home. Many people don't have Alexa, Google Home, or other connected devices for the same reason, and I think it's actually a reasonable position to take.

#10804 2 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

Malicious intent. To have fun. Just to see if it can be done.
Why do we see on the news regularly hackers up to no good and even holding systems hostage.
Pinball might be low on the list of potential targets.
I look at it as potential risk vs benefit. I haven't needed it for 49 years. So I'll wait and see. If it becomes the thing to do or a necessity, I can always do it later.

You know, I like this perspective. Scorbit honestly is not designed to fill in a void that existed in pinball. We literally exist for one purpose: To get more people to play, more often. That's why we (pinball enthusiasts who didn't need it either the past 49 years) are building it.

If one push notification to one next generation player gets them to play, or our payments system eliminates friction to put credit in, or an achievement gets them to care that much more about some kind of goal in a game from 1995, we have done what we set out to do.

I don't think it's for everyone, by any stretch.

As for hackers... I have some experience with this (see my background), having been involved in cybersecurity most of my adult life. You're right, when it happens, it usually is not for the reasons we might think (stealing something). The fewer things connected the better.

Quoted from pinballinreno:

The world is a harsh, stupid and dangerous place, especially on the internet. Protection, weak as it is, is barely sufficient at this point in time.
So, risk vs reward etc. for networked devices.
Back in the day kids used to hack ones wifi just to print out reams of paper on your printer as a prank.
Like I said, just stupid...

The risk/reward analysis is precisely it. Our goal is to get more people playing, so until we prove we can, that's the lost part of the equation. So we'll keep at it and if we do, fantastic. You can always wait!

#10806 2 years ago
Quoted from Goronic:

I know some aren't comfortable with it, but it is where things are going for sure. I think my new refrigerator will be next (not kidding). LOL

So my issue with any of it is that you get such a variety of security with all these things. Some are fantastic, well built secure devices, others are garbage and are shipped with compromised code from the factory, destined to be part of a bot net for a zombie attack.

The consumer doesn't know, so unless they have something on their network checking, it's just a free for all. The issue is less about someone breaking in to our stuff and taking anything or watching our keypresses, it's that our thermostats are being used as part of bot nets to extort large companies out of cash.

Anyway, all for another time... but let's try to have fun with this stuff!

#10809 2 years ago
Quoted from darkryder:

I need to update code on a bunch of my JJP pins, including Hobbit LE. Are the achievements available/unlockable if playing solo and not against any other players? I like the concept of achievements, but have no interest in playing in competitions or with other plays over the Internet. Sorry for the dumb question.

Yes, they are primarily designed around personal achievements versus competitive.

#10811 2 years ago
Quoted from Goronic:

So achievements for Scorbit are in the Hobbit now? or are they coming in a future release? I guess another way of asking is that are the achievements in the hobbit code - or are they 'created' in the Scorbit system?

Hobbit achievements are not released to the public today but they are coming; JJP is releasing one game at a time fairly quickly, depending on the number of cups of coffee involved with their release team.

Achievements are created in the Scorbit system, and already exist, but they work by any number of triggers, both real-time and post-game. We've tested all of this across all of JJP and when they are ready to release, we'll begin showing them on our production platform.

In other words, achievements are always a cooperation between the game and the platform. Any manufacturer can use it, it's free and open to all of them.

Scorbit_HOB (resized).pngScorbit_HOB (resized).png

Hey all! The Hobbit is now live (new code) with Scorbit and the Scorbit Achievement Platform!

S C O R B I T is an online connected gaming platform. (Note, no "e" in Scorbit.)

Just a few high level FAQs since we'll be welcoming a lot of you into the Scorbit universe. Scorbit has never been just about scores and leaderboards, though all of that is available to you as well as the visualizations on ScorbitVision for you game rooms and large displays. You can always learn more about Scorbit on the Scorbit thread here:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/scorbit-official-thread

Also at our website at https://scorbit.io and our support site at https://support.scorbit.io.

-----

** Q: How much does Scorbit cost?

Nothing for JJP owners. For operators we have a Pro license, but you won't need it for the feature set.

-----

** Q: How do I connect my Hobbit to WiFi?

Step 1: Get a USB WiFI dongle

You will need a USB WiFi dongle, if you don't have that already. JJP recommends this one:

https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Mini-Wireless-Supports-10-9-10-14/dp/B07PB1X4CN/

Step 2: Get the Code

You MUST load the latest version of Hobbit (just released) code from JJP. You can get that here:

https://www.jerseyjackpinball.com/support/

Step 3: Configure your WiFi on the game

You must connect the machine to WiFi in from the game's utility > network menu.

**NOTE: YOU MUST SET THE TIME ZONE TO YOUR TIME ZONE IN THE NETWORK CONFIGURATION!**

Step 4: Get the App

Once WiFi is set up, download the Scorbit app here:

https://scorbit.link

Register your account, which will require that you click the validation email sent to you from Scorbit.

Step 5: Pair the Machine

When we say "Pair," what we mean is associate your physical machine with the virtual one on Scorbit for keeping all the scores and achievements. If the machine is already on Pinball Map or you already use Scorbit, it will already be there and the app wizard will detect it.

You can follow these instructions to get your game connected to the platform:

https://support.scorbit.io/hc/en-us/articles/360056606854-Activating-a-Jersey-Jack-Pinball-Machine-on-the-Scorbit-Platform

-----

** Q: Why can't my friends and family see my machine and play?

When you first create your venue, it includes a name, an address, and if it should be PUBLIC or PRIVATE. Scorbit uses location to list out venues, closest first, so you can discover places to play pinball. However, if it's private, only selected users can see it on their menus and submit scores to your game.

To make your service visible to other users, go to the Account Menu (your profile pic in the upper right of the app) > My Venues > [Your Venue Name]. You'll see two tabs, MACHINES and PLAYERS. Machines on the left are any machines you want, and they don't need Scorbit to be added! On the PLAYERS tab, add the other users you want to be able to see your venue.

Also, in the Account Menu > Settings > Viewing Preferences, you can set a HOME VENUE that always loads when you start the app, saving you time if you're mostly just playing at home!

-----

** Q: Where can I see the achievements I've earned?

First I should start by saying, when I say "Account Menu," I mean the menu with your player profile picture in the upper right hand corner of the app.

The way you can "go back" to the last screen is with a swipe from the left edge of the screen to the right.

If you go to your Account Menu > Profile, you'll see a feed of all the scores, achievements and challenges you have received, sorted most recent on top. If you click on an achievement here, you do see a detailed view of that achievement.

profile (resized).jpgprofile (resized).jpg

However, if you want a more detailed view, you can press the "Stats" button next to your name in the profile screen. From there, you have two tabs: Stats and Scores/Achievements.

The stats button does what I'm sure you would think it does.

The scores/achievements lets you first search for a game title (such as Guns N' Roses), and then toggle (using the small icon on the upper right of the box) between your scores for that game and achievements for that game. You can click on a score or an achievement for more details of either one.

stats_scores_achievements (resized).jpgstats_scores_achievements (resized).jpg

In general around the app, you can click on a score, or an achievement, for a detail of either one.

details (resized).jpgdetails (resized).jpg

-----

** Q: Where can I see progress towards an achievement?

You can see this on the Achievement Details screen, which you can click on wherever you see an Achievement

IMG_3993 (resized).PNGIMG_3993 (resized).PNG

-----

** Q: Where can I see the master list of achievements?

Yes, we know completionists want all the list! We do this to some degree in different forms already. You see some, but not all, depending on the behaviors/goals the game designers want to motivate.

1) If you visit the Profile > Stats > Machine > Achievements, you will see achievements that you've achieved ** plus any additional achievements ** that are part of the same "achievement group" that you have not achieved. For example, if there is an achievement to hit multiball 10 times, and you've hit multiball 10 times, you may see the achievements for 50, 100, or 1000 times by viewing that achievement and paging through the others in the GROUP box. This is intentionally not a complete list, and it does require that you've at least hit the lowest level number of the achievement. This is because that "master list" concept may have different forms within different achievement groups.

Think of this like you're unlocking new lists of achievements to hit.

2) A feature we are finishing that you will see soon is called the Browse tab. This is the pinball machine in the lower left corner of the app. This is not ready yet, but when you tap that tab, you will get to choose any machine and see various things about it, including achievements (locked or unlocked). It will be release very soon, so stay tuned here. You'll find that some won't be seen or some will be in an obscured state (like mystery), but it will not require that you specifically have hit all those achievements.

Very important: Some achievements associated with the game are not specific to something that happens in the game! Therefore, it's not exactly right to show you those in the context of the machine all the time, and may be invisible to you until you achieve them or someone you follow achieves them.

-----

** Q: When do I receive notifications about Achievements?

Achievements will send to YOU when you achieve them via a push notification. You can turn these off in your preferences. Clicking on your Activity feed will take you directly to that achievement, or they are visible in the other ways described above.

-----

** Q: What's all this about Challenges?

When you finish a game, after you save to leaderboard, you're presented with a screen like this:

challenges_send (resized).jpgchallenges_send (resized).jpg

When you see the options, you'll see a little person with a "+" on it. You can tag other users to beat the score you just submitted. You can choose more than one at a time as well. Add anyone you like, click outside the user selection box, then you'll see the profile pics of the players you tagged. Click on SEND CHALLENGE and they all get notified that you've tagged them to beat your score.

Then what comes next if you're the person who received it is a little bit beta! We record all the challenges you've received for a specific game title. So if you get three challenges for Wonka, one from Bill, one from Bob, and one from Barry, you play each one out, one at a time.

The next time you play Wonka, we count the game against the first one on the list (Bill), and then Bob, and the Barry, successively. Your next game you save to leaderboard for that game counts! You'll see screens like this:

challenges_complete (resized).jpgchallenges_complete (resized).jpg

In this example, the user has won the challenge against his challenger. Then in the various feeds, community tab, Challenges menu, and on the user profiles, you see the results of challenges.

You can ping-pong back and forth on challenges, and also access them all in the menu.

Challenges expire in 7 days! So hurry up and play.

We know there are a TON of things in challenges that are being added in future releases, like the name of the challenger you're playing, and also the Challenge Match, which allows you to pick and choose players, and when everyone is in, and the challenge begins, you get one new game to count against it. Stay tuned for those challenges in a future release.

Anyway, that's just a start. Hopefully that helps! Hit me up with questions.

-Jay

Quoted from coloradodan:

Seems liks a pain and less bragging rights than making it public.

Our intent for "private" is so people who want to keep the venue from showing up in other people's venue list as they surf around can hide it. It allows you to share scores and be part of leaderboards without having to expose your expensive JJP inventory to everyone as they walk by your home.

I keep mine public, because we don't share the street address. We keep that info secured on our end, so we can properly sort venues based on distance from you.

We also have the "Favorites" feature that allows you to tap the star next to a venue, and it will always put that venue on top (if you're within the distance radius set in the preferences).

Finally we have the home venue option to always open it in a venue of your choice.
