Joined the club this week with a Black Arrow! I put up just over 1.3 million on my second game and haven't got very close since haha. My game was setup to play pretty fast and tough by the previous owner/factory (no center post, outlanes wide open, close to 8 degrees, no post rubber on one side). I do have the hiss or hum from the speakers. I ordered one of the ground loop parts to hopefully solve that one.

Any updated rulesheet out there for the 3.10 code?

Also any must read posts or must have tweaks/mods?

thanks!

Quoted from CLEllison:

Pretty sure if you lift the hood and remove the top of the CPU metal box you'll see a small black box mounted on the back right side. That is a ground loop isolater which I am fairly confident the BA version came standard with it. Might want to check before you order.

This game does not seem to have one. No worries, 10 bucks from Amazon and gets delivered tomorrow.

Ground Loop Isolator came in. All the speaker hum appears to be gone now.

Any rulesheet for the latest code out there? This game has a ton going on-wow.

Ok thanks guys. I will poke around what is out there.

Also after putting quiet fans in my Stern Spike games, this fan is super noticeable. I will probably go after replacing that with something quiet in the near future as well.

Holy cow that was AWESOME. Finally belong to the club! Take note 15 shots of 32. 32? I thought there was 31 modes?
And for the life of me I cannot beat BOTFA. BB still has high score lol

Nice! How long were you at it?

#7583 4 years ago
Quoted from CLEllison:

Thanks! I'm guessing around an hour 30ish? I play 3 ball and drained the first two fairly quick. Oddly enough I told myself it only takes one ball. I ended up getting 3 extra balls along the way. Killed Smaug twice, played through all 3 mini wizard modes twice.

That's pretty cool man. I have not even got close to that. Getting through Into the Fire is a good game for me haha. I had seen someone post about playing for over an hour. Man that would probably leave me done for the night on a game like this with constant intense multiball activity and crazy light shows.

It's odd that it's inconsistent, but my machine had a ton of interference noise on the speakers (all the time) when I got it. A $10 ground loop noise isolator off Amazon completely got rid of the problem for me, I'd give that a shot before anything else.

Do this. Fixed mine right up.

Hi all. My kickback plunger tip is broken. Was about to order some other stuff through pinballife and wondering if the older bally williams part they have is the same as JJP uses in Hobbit.

JJP part :

The JJP part is 7 bucks plus 11 shipping. Not a big deal in the end, but figured I would ask. I will probably order the pbl part either way and try it out.

Swapped the exhaust fan on the CPU box today. The new fan moves air at a much lower sound level.

This is what I used:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NEMG9K6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00

The connector is not the same so it does require a change there. I simply cut off the connector from the stock fan and soldered that up to the new fan wires. Then heat shrink tube over your the soldered area. You can leave the yellow wire off.

Quoted from Energyspike:

I've wanting to do the same. As a PC modder / builder the noise from the fan put it on the "to do" list but noticed the connectors were different and was planning on getting the tool to crimp and connectors to match but your way is much cheaper...Thanks for the link

Ya its been on my list too. I have been doing the fan mod on my spike games and its a huge help. Finally got around to just knocking out the hobbit. Big difference as I have my desk right by the pins.

Quoted from bjorg:

What is the max power draw on The Hobbit? I'm thinking on putting my pins on a smart power strip, but it has a fairly low limit.

I would say just give it a shot man. If it trips the power strip when you get into into the fire or something along those lines then you know its too much.

Fiancé and I have been eyeing up buying a machine for the house for awhile. Might Pull the trigger on an le soon. Any thoughts on this for a first time buyer? We are both huge Tolkien fans so this and lotr have been on our short list.

I have owned both. They are different games. Both can be long playing with deep code, but the layouts and rules are pretty different. Both are great and you can't go wrong with either game.

Quoting myself

This part from pinballlife worked great. Kickback is back to kicking.
