Quoted from PinballCharlie:

Trumpanche is right on - after taking the summer off I just put these on the bench for painting. It does take some time as they require some precision painting but they should be available to purchase here on Pinside in a couple weeks.
Cheers!
Chuck

Fantastic news! I looking forward to buy one to the best pinball in the world.

I tried something similar using self adhesive felt pads, like they sell in furniture shops to stop chair legs scratching wooden floors... it took the edge of the cracking sound, but the volume was about the same... I like your rubber door silencers idea!! How much did the noise reduce? I was thinking of using some kind of expanded rubber also...

I think about 50% noise canceling. And it's easy, the shape is done for! no cutting or adaptation for install it

Scorbit_HOB (resized).pngScorbit_HOB (resized).png

Hey all! The Hobbit is now live (new code) with Scorbit and the Scorbit Achievement Platform!

S C O R B I T is an online connected gaming platform. (Note, no "e" in Scorbit.)

Just a few high level FAQs since we'll be welcoming a lot of you into the Scorbit universe. Scorbit has never been just about scores and leaderboards, though all of that is available to you as well as the visualizations on ScorbitVision for you game rooms and large displays. You can always learn more about Scorbit on the Scorbit thread here:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/scorbit-official-thread

Also at our website at https://scorbit.io and our support site at https://support.scorbit.io.

-----

** Q: How much does Scorbit cost?

Nothing for JJP owners. For operators we have a Pro license, but you won't need it for the feature set.

-----

** Q: How do I connect my Hobbit to WiFi?

Step 1: Get a USB WiFI dongle

You will need a USB WiFi dongle, if you don't have that already. JJP recommends this one:

https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Mini-Wireless-Supports-10-9-10-14/dp/B07PB1X4CN/

Step 2: Get the Code

You MUST load the latest version of Hobbit (just released) code from JJP. You can get that here:

https://www.jerseyjackpinball.com/support/

Step 3: Configure your WiFi on the game

You must connect the machine to WiFi in from the game's utility > network menu.

**NOTE: YOU MUST SET THE TIME ZONE TO YOUR TIME ZONE IN THE NETWORK CONFIGURATION!**

Step 4: Get the App

Once WiFi is set up, download the Scorbit app here:

https://scorbit.link

Register your account, which will require that you click the validation email sent to you from Scorbit.

Step 5: Pair the Machine

When we say "Pair," what we mean is associate your physical machine with the virtual one on Scorbit for keeping all the scores and achievements. If the machine is already on Pinball Map or you already use Scorbit, it will already be there and the app wizard will detect it.

You can follow these instructions to get your game connected to the platform:

https://support.scorbit.io/hc/en-us/articles/360056606854-Activating-a-Jersey-Jack-Pinball-Machine-on-the-Scorbit-Platform

-----

** Q: Why can't my friends and family see my machine and play?

When you first create your venue, it includes a name, an address, and if it should be PUBLIC or PRIVATE. Scorbit uses location to list out venues, closest first, so you can discover places to play pinball. However, if it's private, only selected users can see it on their menus and submit scores to your game.

To make your service visible to other users, go to the Account Menu (your profile pic in the upper right of the app) > My Venues > [Your Venue Name]. You'll see two tabs, MACHINES and PLAYERS. Machines on the left are any machines you want, and they don't need Scorbit to be added! On the PLAYERS tab, add the other users you want to be able to see your venue.

Also, in the Account Menu > Settings > Viewing Preferences, you can set a HOME VENUE that always loads when you start the app, saving you time if you're mostly just playing at home!

-----

** Q: Where can I see the achievements I've earned?

First I should start by saying, when I say "Account Menu," I mean the menu with your player profile picture in the upper right hand corner of the app.

The way you can "go back" to the last screen is with a swipe from the left edge of the screen to the right.

If you go to your Account Menu > Profile, you'll see a feed of all the scores, achievements and challenges you have received, sorted most recent on top. If you click on an achievement here, you do see a detailed view of that achievement.

profile (resized).jpgprofile (resized).jpg

However, if you want a more detailed view, you can press the "Stats" button next to your name in the profile screen. From there, you have two tabs: Stats and Scores/Achievements.

The stats button does what I'm sure you would think it does.

The scores/achievements lets you first search for a game title (such as Guns N' Roses), and then toggle (using the small icon on the upper right of the box) between your scores for that game and achievements for that game. You can click on a score or an achievement for more details of either one.

stats_scores_achievements (resized).jpgstats_scores_achievements (resized).jpg

In general around the app, you can click on a score, or an achievement, for a detail of either one.

details (resized).jpgdetails (resized).jpg

-----

** Q: Where can I see progress towards an achievement?

You can see this on the Achievement Details screen, which you can click on wherever you see an Achievement

IMG_3993 (resized).PNGIMG_3993 (resized).PNG

-----

** Q: Where can I see the master list of achievements?

Yes, we know completionists want all the list! We do this to some degree in different forms already. You see some, but not all, depending on the behaviors/goals the game designers want to motivate.

1) If you visit the Profile > Stats > Machine > Achievements, you will see achievements that you've achieved ** plus any additional achievements ** that are part of the same "achievement group" that you have not achieved. For example, if there is an achievement to hit multiball 10 times, and you've hit multiball 10 times, you may see the achievements for 50, 100, or 1000 times by viewing that achievement and paging through the others in the GROUP box. This is intentionally not a complete list, and it does require that you've at least hit the lowest level number of the achievement. This is because that "master list" concept may have different forms within different achievement groups.

Think of this like you're unlocking new lists of achievements to hit.

2) A feature we are finishing that you will see soon is called the Browse tab. This is the pinball machine in the lower left corner of the app. This is not ready yet, but when you tap that tab, you will get to choose any machine and see various things about it, including achievements (locked or unlocked). It will be release very soon, so stay tuned here. You'll find that some won't be seen or some will be in an obscured state (like mystery), but it will not require that you specifically have hit all those achievements.

Very important: Some achievements associated with the game are not specific to something that happens in the game! Therefore, it's not exactly right to show you those in the context of the machine all the time, and may be invisible to you until you achieve them or someone you follow achieves them.

-----

** Q: When do I receive notifications about Achievements?

Achievements will send to YOU when you achieve them via a push notification. You can turn these off in your preferences. Clicking on your Activity feed will take you directly to that achievement, or they are visible in the other ways described above.

-----

** Q: What's all this about Challenges?

When you finish a game, after you save to leaderboard, you're presented with a screen like this:

challenges_send (resized).jpgchallenges_send (resized).jpg

When you see the options, you'll see a little person with a "+" on it. You can tag other users to beat the score you just submitted. You can choose more than one at a time as well. Add anyone you like, click outside the user selection box, then you'll see the profile pics of the players you tagged. Click on SEND CHALLENGE and they all get notified that you've tagged them to beat your score.

Then what comes next if you're the person who received it is a little bit beta! We record all the challenges you've received for a specific game title. So if you get three challenges for Wonka, one from Bill, one from Bob, and one from Barry, you play each one out, one at a time.

The next time you play Wonka, we count the game against the first one on the list (Bill), and then Bob, and the Barry, successively. Your next game you save to leaderboard for that game counts! You'll see screens like this:

challenges_complete (resized).jpgchallenges_complete (resized).jpg

In this example, the user has won the challenge against his challenger. Then in the various feeds, community tab, Challenges menu, and on the user profiles, you see the results of challenges.

You can ping-pong back and forth on challenges, and also access them all in the menu.

Challenges expire in 7 days! So hurry up and play.

We know there are a TON of things in challenges that are being added in future releases, like the name of the challenger you're playing, and also the Challenge Match, which allows you to pick and choose players, and when everyone is in, and the challenge begins, you get one new game to count against it. Stay tuned for those challenges in a future release.

Anyway, that's just a start. Hopefully that helps! Hit me up with questions.

-Jay

Quoted from Pinball-Ike:

I will add my thanks, super quick delivery and communication when I ordered. It took just a few minutes to install, and the instructions were clear, even for bit ole mitts like mine. I’ve played several games, it hasn’t moved, and the gameplay change is noticeable, especially getting the pop bumper awards on the dwarf and captive ball targets, and fewer SDTM returns obvi...
With 2 other gates in the area I’m surprised this wasn’t OEM, but there isn’t an immediate mounting area for an OEM gate, and so likely wasn’t possible, which makes this clever mount even better.
Well done Trumpanche folks like you, capguntrooper and others making simple but meaningful mods are a fantastic part of Pinside!

Hey quick update and thankful shoutout to Travahontas

I see I installed this several months ago and have had trouble free usage and really like the change in gameplay. I just had to replace the driver board for the book monitor and my big hands moved the gate mod. When I put it back, it didn’t stick very well, but I went back to my original package from Travahontas and lo and behold… there was a spare mount with a brand new sticky gel! 1 minute later, the gate is back in position, my book monitor works great and I am back in business.

Several plays later, I remain pleased with this simple mod and encourage everyone to try it out! While it’s cool that a ‘print it yourself’ person has also made a copy and will likely respond in moments to my recommendation…I think it’s thoughtful stuff like a spare mount and the innovative invention itself that make it worth supporting the modder community.

I like to help out the original idea guys.

Without them there is no innovation.

There really is no price for successful innovation, without it we dont move forward.

Always there are cheap knock-offs. Its the nature of commerce.

Looking forward to version 2 of this gate mod that interacts with a switch and the code somehow.

I can’t believe how many times ive had the ball fly off that right return rail in this game and get stuck! So frustrating!! I tried putting some foam to slow it down. I may try decreasing flipper power next.

I have the lior barrel legs which made my most recent fall out trapped so it’s not a stock fault but still frustrating when u have a good game goin and have to take off the glass!

That's an odd one. I've had the ball come off that rail just a hand full of times in close to 1000 games. As I recall, it happens when the ball is hit perfect on the fly and is really cooking. What pitch is your game at and what are your flipper strength settings? If you trap up on right flipper and backhand the right ramp, does the ball just barely make it up and around? That is one good way to dial that right side flipper power in.

#10917 2 years ago
Quoted from pinballslave:

I have no idea, I was told by the seller that it was installed from new and the game has just over 200plays, which can be seen on the display... to be honest, it looked like that protector saw well over 200 games, but I have zero experience with these protectors... is it possible to zero the games played indicator? Under the protector the playfield does look pretty new, a few small dents that could have been from air-balls that were able to deform the protector...?

That's weird. Mine has 1692 plays, all on original balls, and the protector looks like a vibrant glossy playfield.
Then again I do wax it occasionally like normal and clean under the very outer edges that can catch dust. Plays fast, playfield underneath still looks brand new.

There's no way in hell I'd take mine off. I'd add protectors to other games if I could, ha!
However yours I would have taken off too. Something was definitely wrong there (or that machine had a hell of a lot more plays on it than you were told)

New owner of a Smaug Gold. Where has this game been my whole life! I have now owned all JJPs and this one is near the top or the top for me.

Where can I find a good thorough summary of the rules. I watched the Buffalo Pinball v. JJP video. Any others?

About to get this game soon. I'm beyond hyped.

What in-game settings do people play with usually?

Do you guys prefer to disable the MB stacking? Disable book mode multiball? Increase difficulty of any of the locks/modes?

Curious what peoples experiences are.

Does disabling Book Multiball barr you from ever getting treasure hunt mode?

Ill definitely be removing the center-post from my game, and playing with a fairly steep tilt to remove some of the float.

I like to increase the difficulty of qualifying modes from 4 to 5 to enable the chance for an Extra Ball... and I've increased the difficulty (less default, less stacking) of lighting the kickback since my game has a Gate at Bag End. Otherwise, default for me.

Is Hobbit 3.12 the latest code? Mine shows 3.10 and I downloaded 3.12 following the instructions on the JJP website. It reboots and still shows 3.10. I assume that means I am still on 3.10 and I am doing something wrong?

#10935 2 years ago

3.12 is the latest. Sounds like you are doing something wrong.

I'd like a few opinions from the community. I've had my Hobbit since they were first released back in early 2016. It's been fun to watch the code change over the years and become the game it is today. I have really enjoyed playing it and I also think it is one of the prettiest games I have ever owned!

All that being said, I have found that within the past three years I do not play it that often. I have only three games right now - TAF, Hobbit, and a Stern Spiderman. When I do turn on my games I only really play TAF and sometimes SM. Hobbit is the last game I typically turn on. I don't know why that is the case exactly because it is a fun game with tons to do!

I'm at the point where I'd really like to get another game to play. On one hand it would be easiest to sell the game I play the least, which is Hobbit, and buy a new game. On the other hand, there is so much to love about Hobbit and I don't know if I will regret selling it to get something else to play. I do feel guilty with it just sitting there, begging someone to play it but I have an attachment since I have owned it since new

What would you do?

I would sell it and move on. Every pin I've sold has been the same story, I just didn't turn it on and play it anymore even though I still liked the pin.

Sell it.

One of the great things about pinball is that, if you want to, you can buy another one down the road.

People here have purchased the same game several times.

These commercial games are built to last 30 years or more.

There are tons of exciting new games all the time.

Im buying a CCR and likely selling my Houdini to make roon for it.

Though its a hard choice, i play my dr who more than my houdini now.

If i look at my collection and don't feel excited to play my games, they have to be moved on and fresh ones put in.

#10939 2 years ago

Agree with both. Sell.
I’m a hypocrite because struggling with exact same thing. Clearly one I play the least even though I love the machine. I don’t usually miss as much as I think I will (once the new one arrives)- and agree can always buy another one.

My book screen stopped working about a month ago trouble shot it and decided the screen needed to be replaced. I called JJP and they told me the screen was going to be around $70. I found a replacment for $30 shipped.
https://www.buydisplay.com/lcd-4-3-inch-tft-display-module-in-480x272-vga-video-av-driver-board
I ordered it on the 21 of September and came today. Installed and works great.

Cheers! and Thanks!!
So I had my book screen stop working as well, my Elite Pinball topper still displayed all the information correctly so having to hunt down the problem was easy, just by swapping VGA plugs from the topper to the book screen. Clearly the book was the problem. I found your shared link for purchasing a replacement screen and in less than 5 days I am proud to say, I'm 100% up and running. Price was cheap and the actual swap out was just a short exercise in patience. Thanks for doing the leg work. I can recommend https://www.buydisplay.com/lcd-4-3-inch-tft-display-module-in-480x272-vga-video-av-driver-board perfect solution.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I appreciate it! I have been thinking about it and I do believe I will be listing it for sale. Before I list it though I've been wanting to fix a problem I've had for many years - Smaug's mouth doesn't move. I always thought it was the servo and I spent the time this evening working to replace it. It turns out the servo is not the entire problem:

Hobbit_Lifted_Component (resized).jpgHobbit_Lifted_Component (resized).jpg

Hobbit_Burned_Trace (resized).jpgHobbit_Burned_Trace (resized).jpg

It got so hot it completely lifted the trace. Hopefully JJP sells this PCB, otherwise I will be looking to fix my existing one.

I always thought it was the servo and I spent the time this evening working to replace it. It turns out the servo is not the entire problem:

It got so hot it completely lifted the trace. Hopefully JJP sells this PCB, otherwise I will be looking to fix my existing one.

Why would that over heat? Binding servo? If it was me, I'd install a fuse after repairing that.
My Smaug mouth moves but not correctly and sometime not at all. Haven't got around to it yet. But the new servo Hobby King makes that replaces the existing servo has better torque spec.

I am betting it was a binding servo. The original servo is in pretty bad shape movement wise so it must have burned up. That tab is the ground tab I believe so it must have been driven hard. I could look to put a fuse in-line but I'm not sure what value is best. The trace is already damaged so it won't hurt to install one.

Do you know the model servo is the best replacement? I was looking at this one as a replacement:

There are some differences - coreless vs poled, digital vs analog.

I contacted JJP and they are selling me a new PCB but I want to repair this one and use it while keeping the new one as a backup.

I noticed that the HobbyKing servo (HK15288A Analog Servo BB/MG 9kg / 0.20sec / 51g) is out of stock everywhere or discontinued. This one will substitute...

HobbyKing™ (HK15328A Analog Servo BB/MG 10.3kg / 0.21sec / 58g)

I tried 3 others that I already had and they didn't work. Also needed an old USB drive with fat32 for the update, it didnt work with newer USB sticks.
