Quoted from brucipher:

Did your mommy ween you off her teat too early?

Wtf?

#102 3 years ago

I'm in for a SE but I have to say that armor looks great.

Quoted from PACMAN:

So the purpose of the 3rd flipper is....."it hits things".

Aaahh, yes. It's usually the purpose of flippers. Is there an unspoken pinball design convention that states a 3rd flipper needs a dedicated shot?

Maybe we should get rid of the 2nd flipper as well. On a lot of my games, the shots I can make from the left flipper, I can also make from the right. Maybe one central flipper, like on Shadow upper PF, is all any game really needs.

#104 3 years ago

Pics look amazing guys. Great to hear the positive feedback. Getting close now!

#105 3 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

It's comical how you are defending Hobbits glaring design flaw with "Keith knows but doesn't want to spoil it". Did it ever cross your mind that maybe Keith has no F-ing clue what to do with it and that's why he's stalling? Why is the feature not working on prototypes (like this one) going out?
If it turns out its only for one stupid shot that will be incredibly disappointing.

Who the hell cares? Its on there and if needed it can be used . Its not hurting anything being there even if its not used a whole lot . I really dont understand where your trying to come from? Its no different than the extra uppef flipper on tz that is used for basically just one shot is it?

#106 3 years ago
Quoted from lordloss:

So

So keith is still hiding the rule map by the looks of it. Any way to get to a progress screen anywhere in the game?

Not sure. Let me check Monday.

One more pic.

That ramp set up is friggin' cool. Like a squished together fishtales.

It's different because The shot on TZ is obvious. And when Tz came out, there weren't years of small reveals and delays which lead to endless amounts of speculation. And pat didn't come on rgp and give sarcastic replies regarding the use of the flipper.

Bla bla bla

Well not that obvious lol bc lots of people that come by to play it never use it bc its kind of hidden.

Lol...I'll admit, I've had quite a few drinks today.

#114 3 years ago

Not going to lie. The Hobbit looks old, dull, and boring - and well very cheaply made with a bad playfield

Just kidding - it looks awesome as hell! Thanks for the pictures. Really looking forward to putting this in my game room

#115 3 years ago

This rivals TOM, TOTAN, or whatever you'd consider one of the most beautiful pinballs ever made. And to think the SE will look even better!! (hopes this SE future owner)

#116 3 years ago

Did anyone PLAY it?

I've seen comments mostly saying:
Excellent build quality
Sounds great
Gorgeous display
Armor looks great
Etc.

But how does it PLAY?
I'm kind of waiting for people to say "wow- it was fun as hell!"

#117 3 years ago

The play is fast and fun. Between the individually controlled drop targets the ramps and trolls, it's a blast to play. Very satisfying and it's great that the book let's you know what to shoot for when you are in a mode. Code not complete and you know when Keith gets it all together haa the chance to be a clasdic. Much different feel from WOZ, and with my help and feedback,b the kinks will be worked out and games should be coming down the line and people will start getting their games. Thank me
Allen

or maybe they just don't give a sh*t about the third flipper.

I don't.

That right there is a gorgeous machine. Almost makes me sad I cancelled my order.

Almost.

Thanks- exactly what I wanted to hear.

Now, back to the vestigial flipper discussion

#123 3 years ago

The game will be a real crowd-pleaser on location, I have no doubt.

Around here, some will love it, some will hate it, all will bitch. But for sure it's as fun machine that manages to introduce some unique elements without the insistence of reinventing the wheel like Oz did. I've always considered WOZ a bit buggy and clumsy and this one doesn't seem like that at all to me.

#124 3 years ago
Quoted from lordloss:

So when WILL keefer start explaining how the rules and game plays?

As soon as I do it for HRC. Kind of behind the 8-ball there. Sorry.

#125 3 years ago

It's still on incomplete code, so I'm sure it will keep improving. Keith is msgical

#126 3 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

image_(resized).jpg

Mountain Dew goes with Fritos, not Cheetos. The Cheetos are as useless as a third flipper in that drawing!!!

And please, help me understand. You ordered the game. You paid for it years ago. Why are you actually hung up on the flipper? I've had games on order, and I never worried about things like that. If I worried that much about a feature, I dumped out of the game. Pinball is a wicked fun hobby. When there are things in a game I don't understand or dislike, I usually don't own it.

It's not my fanboy-ism talking, it is my morbid curiosity of wondering why your acting as if Keith stuck that flipper in your backside.

So when you ordered/paid for the game, did you not know there would be a 3rd flipper? Were you misled into thinking there would be "dedicated 3rd flipper shot"?

And there goes another industry insider because of too much bullshit on Pinside.

#131 3 years ago

What a cesspool.

Anyone left?

#132 3 years ago

Keefer was almost the last holdout from JJP. The stern guys haven't been here for years, and Jared after becoming their social media guy deactivated his account a while ago.

The spooky guys are still here (SpookyCharlie/FawzmaGames/BenHeck), as is JP de Win (JJP/Dutch's animations dude), plus Heighway, Multimorphic, and Dutch Pinball official corporate accounts, I think.

None of us would want to hang around with a bunch of idiots we don't know criticizing how we do our job, most likely.

#134 3 years ago

Even though there are a few dopes on Pinside, I think Stern and JJP should have people on here discussing their games with the majority of us who can appreciate it.

Deactivated account? Nooooooo! My favorite person in the pinball industry gone from Pinside

The inability of the Pinside Moderation team to control the basement users on the site likely to blame. Robin's own statement to make the place more manufacturer friendly isn't working as well. Just a couple theories.

Enjoy!

#137 3 years ago

The game does look really nice. Great to hear people are enjoying this early test version.

#138 3 years ago

A shame that the tone of a few has taken a toll on those in the industry actually doing good work. It's a tough room for sure. This should be a celebratory thread!

Fact. Some of which' only claim to fame is being able to speak without drooling

#140 3 years ago

Speechless, this pin is beautiful! I agree it rivals Totan and Tom. Great Job JJP. Its not how you start its how you finish!

Quoted from Excalabur:

As far as I know, Sterns official policy is to not post/participate on social media other than their own (many large companies have such policies). Not that I haven't tried convincing them to join the discussion

I'm kind of bummed that Jared was also affected by that policy, but it is what it is.

Quoted from GravitaR:

I've spent a lot of time and brain cells trying to come up with the perfect solution to make this forum run without issues and noise and make it appealing/interesting/fun/relaxed/inviting to as many as possible. And like many similar forums, have not yet found the holy grail to the complex challenge of forum moderation. Simply kicking off a bunch of people is not a viable solution: For starters, who would those people be? And don't they also bring a lot of color to Pinside?

Would love to hear your suggestions, why not open a *new* thread and post your suggestions for improving (moderation on) Pinside. Start an open discussion. Remember this site is there for you, but also largely by you. The mod team and I open to constructive criticisms and fresh ideas.

Quoted from shovelhed:

Sorry for going off topic myself. Back on topic now: The Hobbit does look amazing, can't wait to play this! I think JJP nailed it by hiring JP, who is not only a super talented animation guy, but also an incredible playfield art designer. Definitely my vote for one of the best looking games ever.

Now all we want to know is how does the finished version play? Hopefully Hobbit will be available with a bunch of machines to play at TPF.

And by "basement users" he means the fun people. (Like the people in the basement only stay down there and have nothing of value to say.)

He'll be back once he finishes that HRC rule sheet. So i'll wait here patiently

#145 3 years ago

He sees a "nice" thread where people are saying "come play" and runs head first into the wall of BS. Another thread turned to crap. Since this was supposed to be an event just for this past weekend I hope this thread gets closed. We don't need another embarrassing dangling thread.

He can dish it out but can't take it. It's funny when grown men have tantrums. Did he really have to close his account? Most would just not come back if they were so hurt by an Internet chat forum.

And those JJP boys read pinside all day. Just wait until they need to defuse a situation or sell something, they'll pop right back in.

Hillary Rodham Clinton - I had a good joke to post but I will refrain.

No, its High Roller Casino. I think he's trying to say he didn't document everything you are supposed to do for a game for the past 15 years why should you expect it now. And on pretty much day 1. Funny, pinball use to be discovering the game. Now everyone wants to know everything before they touch it.

Its weird because WOZ has that god damn menu map that shows the game playmodes and path for the wizard mode. Thats all we want!
