Quoted from PinballRulez:

I think to most people it looks great. People with 'the eye' may not like it or think it could have been done better.
In the end it is the total package that must do the job. For me playfield layout, rules, gameplay and lastability are far more important then art. I want to play my pin, not look at it the whole day

To me the total package is the important thing as well, but in my opinion each part of the package has to be well done for the game to be great. Though I would prefer a more "hand drawn" look to the artwork, it looks good enough to me to not detract from the potential of the game.

As a point of reference. To me, the playfield art on LOTR is also good enough to not detract from the game. The plastics are another story though.

Quoted from PinballRulez:

Agreed.
So if everybody gives feedback to what they find as a professional could have been done better, maybe JJP will pick up this feedback and do something with it. Together we are strong

Yes, better to be constructive. You're less likely to be heard if you start by just saying the artwork sucks and must have been done by amateurs because no professional would have done x,y,z.

Is it helpful to insult the person who likely spent a lot of time and effort making the artwork and would be the person making any changes?

Quoted from PEN:

AC/DC and Tron are great games.....The art, not so much.

Agreed. Those are two examples of playfield art that does detract from the overall game package enough to be a factor that prevents me from owning one.

Quoted from John_in_NC:

I'm paid up for THLE 162 and feel the art work will make for another beautiful JJP pin. It can be argued that WoZ is one of the prettiest packages ever produced. I think THLE will be on par with that. How many of you poo pooing the art actually have skin in the game?

I think the better questions to ask are the following (assuming you like everything else on the game):

1) "Of the people who dislike the artwork, how many of you will it keep from purchasing the game?".

2) For those who are already in on the pre-order, "How many of you will drop out if the artwork does not improve?".

Full Disclosure: I am in on the pre-order and the artwork is good enough to keep me in. There are games that I will not buy because of the artwork alone (like BSD).
