It's just fun. I love that the cyclone jackpot increases and is saved from game to game until someone hits it. It's like a progressive jackpot slot machine!
I've been playing it all night and don't even come close. How did you do it? Ramp to ferris wheel then ramp to ferris wheel and again or do you do some kind of post pass to set up to the left ramp again??? Give us some hints there.......
Quoted from Blackbeard:It's super hard and I haven't hit it since then.
That's what makes it so great!!.....We have a Winna!!!!
yeah, it's a great feeling. I've got the high score on my neighbor's cyclone. hit the jackpot (maxed at 4M) and the comet 2x (once was during double points), netting me a score of 11+M (9,999,999 on the high score display)
Nice! That is a though ramp. I usually try to hold the right flipper up and direct the ball to the left flipper. Usually needs a bump to get it over. I think my best is around 5.6mil. Love it!
Just got it! I got it by first stopping the ball against the right post, then post pass to the left! Then up the ramp again twice... Must say I got lucky getting it all right... my skill level is nowhere near doing that very often.... Shweet 4 Mill ... Total 6,472,340

There are quite a few people out there that think this is that game's (and alot of others) fatal flaw.

I wouldn't consider it a flaw it's just to show you how hard it can be to accomplish.

It doesn't make for a very good tournament game
We used to play Cyclone at one of our league locations. You could see a few of the
players basically racing to play Cyclone first if the progressive jackpot was high, so ya
it's a terrible tournament game.

Depending on how the game is set up, that's usually the best way to do it. I freaked out my friend using this technique. Hit the jackpot on my first game. He was like, "Man, I never thought of that".
Make sure your flippers have been rebuilt recently and correctly. I played mine the other night after playing nothing but TAF and TZ for a couple of weeks. Hit the jackpot twice on the first ball.
Not bragging, just saying that after playing some "bigger" games and having the flippers tuned up it gets much easier.
I do hate the progressive jackpot though. Never seems to get above 1.5 or 2mil. Have to play some games where I intentionally DON'T hit the jackpot just to get the bonus up...
Definitely a fun, laid back game. Don't have to catch - just keep it rolling. I find often that the Comet shot pays much better than the cyclone because of the bonus being so low.
Pinmike - Did you not give your Cyclone away to a guy in Houston?
All this talk makes me want to hurry my restore of Cyclone up. I bought a new display, reparied the system board (back from Clay this week), new plastics; and a new playfield is on its way from CPR.
Now if i could only get some decent ramps....
Quoted from lordnorth:Hit the jackpot twice on the first ball.
Extremely impressive!
I haven't played with the settings on mine yet, but on my Taxi I make the jackpot range as narrow as possible. I think you can make it range to 1M to 1.5M. This way your score is a lot more based on how you play rather than how many people played before you.
Wonder if you can do something similar in Cyclone.
Progressive pinball jackpots that carry over from game to game = big payoff fun, and a huge rush.... but only if it's something that is difficult to hit (for your skill level and how you play), so that the jackpot value has the chance to build up. True, carry-over jackpots are not good in a tournament/league setting, but they're a lot of fun in your home or on location -- once again, provided that the jackpot is difficult to get.
Think about how poorly progressive jackpot slot machines would do if the jackpot were paid out frequently. In the slot machine's case, the casino is able to dictate how often it finally pays out to ensure that it builds up, and thus, entices people to drop more money into the the slots in hope of the big payoff.
Cyclone is one of those pins that I played a bunch as a kid, and I cut my pinball teeth on that machine, so it will always be near and dear to me. However, as I've honed my pinball skills over the years, some of the mystique/attraction of Cyclone has worn off.
Quoted from BrianZ:Pinmike - Did you not give your Cyclone away to a guy in Houston?
Yes I did,He and his family were down on their luck and had to sell their STTNG to cover med expenses. It was a gorgeous Cyclone and I took very good care of her for years. His kids loved
it.I really felt bad that they had to sell their only pin STTNG and I stepped in to help a family in need
I hope they are still enjoying it!!
