Hi all,
Looking to get some help locating where the sound problem is with my HS. The game plays fine, and I have background sound. I do not have any sounds that you would have during game play, nor do I have any speech. My voltages are good. If I press test switch on MPU, I get nothing, If I enter "sound" test through coin door switches, I get nothing. If I do "music" test it plays music just fine. I have replaced the following parts on MPU: U21/22(EPROMs) U9/10 (PIAs) U6,U7,U8,U1(amp),U23,C2/3/24/26, ribbion cable, and I think the cpu(U24).
Thanks for any ideas

I had the same problem on F-14 Tomcat, background music fine but no effects or speech from the MPU. Turned out I had a shorted cap in the mixer section. You'll need to investigate this section with an oscilloscope.

Thanks for the reply, I will start going over this section. I unfortunately don't have a OS, but will probably test what I can, and just shot gun the rest. Will report back with findings.

Update, still no change(no speech or game sounds). Replaced U2,U4, C9-C16.
I think I will try and find a pro to go through the board, thanks for the ideas.

Didn't see this earlier. If you're still up for trying things... I'd go through the regular things that the audio section CPU needs to run, e.g. reset, clock, ...

In one case, I've seen the reset line preventing it from starting, as it's driven from one of the general purpose PIAs. If all the signals looked OK, I'd burn a test ROM, I'm pretty sure there is one for the sys 11 audio section, and see if that runs it. If not, you're restricted to the CPU, and core logic.

I like a challenge Aaron. Send it to me. Include a case of Dang! root beer... J/K about the root beer, but I can fix the board. Drop me a line.
