I have a new project HS and as a newbie, am trying to acclimate myself to the difference between a Williams machine and Sega (which I do have some experience in). In looking around I found something I can't identify. It's on the left hand side inside the cabinet. A trough with a ball in it and there is some sort of switch attached to it. Can someone please identify and let me know what it is for?

That is a tilt mechanism. From EM days.

Lift the front of the game up, ball rolls forward and hits a leaf blade switch and tilts the game.

There is the plumb bob to the left of that and another on the bottom of the playfield (See below). So there are 3 tilt mechanisms on this game? Isn't that a bit of an overkill.100_0272.JPG100_0272.JPG

Probably why the one on the bottom of the playfield was bent really bad.

OK thanks. More questions later.

No. They serve different purposes.

One on coin door is usually slam tilt, ends all games. Plumb bob tilts only the ball in play. Rolling ball one usually ends game. Bottom of the cabinet one for someone kicking the bottom usually ends the game. And if there is one behind the backglass, to prevent someone trying to advance the credit unit, ends all games.

The ones that end all games is so if more than one person is playing the game and someone kicks the coin door or something and kills every game. The thinking was that the other players would get on the bad guy and he wouldn't keep kicking it.
