Hey there, earlier this summer I picked up a High Speed table that was partially converted to the La Retata spec. (More details here, if you're unfamiliar: https://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=4440&picno=34530)

It has the La Retata playfield and plastics, but not the backglass. All in surprisingly good shape.

I was tempted to do a playfield and plastics swap to get this back to full-on High Speed spec, but I was hoping to get some feedback on whether that would be a terrible thing to do given the rarity of this conversion (I've heard only 100 were made). Am I better off leaving this as-is? Does this playfield have value on its own given its rarity, or is it just more of a curiosity?

Appreciate any thoughts!

Thanks all! I'd actually love to find a somewhat tired High Speed and restore it, then maybe sell this on to someone who appreciates the quirkyness more than I

Quoted from EJS:

Can we get a closer picture of your start switch?
I have a Checkpoint switch in my Getaway and get lots of comments on it.

Will try to grab a pic for ya, but at some point some previous owner swapped in a key ignition, which I think is a nice touch! I've sadly never had a chance to play Checkpoint but it definitely looks similar.

Quoted from NYP:

I also think you should keep it as La Retata for the rarity. I have the flyer for it but it's in German but it has some English. Original price for the kit seems to be about $650

Thanks! That's really interesting.

Here's a pic of the "ignition"

Circling back on this. Pondering trades our just outright selling this curiosity. Still not sure what to do.

Can anyone help me put a value on this table? Should it be priced the same as a comparable High Speed? Higher, lower?
