Hopefully one of you guys can spot something I’m missing or offer some advice. I recently did a pf swap on my High Speed and it looked like everything was working. When I tried to play a game, however, the left flipper would not return to it’s original position. Both right flippers (upper and lower) operate correctly.

At first I thought I just hadn’t tighted the crank enough. I loosened it, returned the flipper bat to it’s correct starting position, and tightened the nut back down. After a few flips, same thing, the flipper will not return to starting position.

I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix it. I changed out the coil stop to a longer one, no change. I changed out the plunger/link/crank arm, same. I repositioned the coil and ensured there is no slop. I checked the coil sleeve, it’s fine. The spring looks fine. Switches are correctly gapped.

I can recreate the problem without turning the game on. If I work the mech, simulating the coil activating, after a few tries the flipper bat will start drifting away from the start position. I moved the entire assembly to the old pf, put it back together, same thing. Note- I rebuilt all of flippers shortly after getting the game and all of them worked fine. No parts were changed during the pf swap.

Super frustrating! Here are some pics. In each pic of the flipper, the mech is at rest.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give as much info as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Quoted from GRUMPY:

Are you finding that the bat shaft is slipping in the crank arm each time it is not in the correct position?

Exactly. The flipper bat shaft slips a little each time I activate the flipper until it can’t slip any farther because it rotates far enough that the flipper hits the lane guide.

Quoted from cjchand:

I ran into the same after a recent flipper rebuild. Ultimate “solution” was simply to tighten the crap out of that pawl (despite all the warnings not to).
Best I can figure is that the metal gets deformed when tightened, so any subsequent adjustments require going tighter than before.
Note: I’ve only been a pin owner for a month or so. Take my words with a massive grain of salt

Congrats on your first pin! I’ll try cranking down really hard on the old pawl with the assembly on the bench. No biggie if it deforms or breaks since I have a new one.

Ok I’ll pick some up at Harbor Freight and try that, thanks!

Fixed! Thanks guys, I used both of your tips. I used the emery cloth on the flipper bat shaft and then cranked down really hard on the pawl. Played a game and everything worked fine, probably around 50+ flips. Thanks again for the help!!
