Hey all. I just picked up my first pin ever and High Speed was it. Play field is in great shape but does have one chip on one pop cover and the front art needs to be redone but beyond that it’s a beaut. Already read through much of the comments. Looking forward to more.

I have a few items I need to clean up on my machines but I put in a super simple but nice little modification last night. I missed out on those cool clear ramps but this helps dress up the back area of play field and covers up that exposed steel area. Doesn’t obstruct the ball viewing much either on those orbits.

Nice touch! How did you make those?

There were several vendors I saw but I got it though this Amazon seller. Super easy and a nice upgrade for the minimal effort. High Speed Pinball Sign Mod https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083LFMDMC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_J9K1TWCQCCT4Q6ER2VWR

I am going to work on a 3D printed stop sign mod that affixes to the front of the base light. Doing the the 3D render now.

I’m redoing the sides of the topper side art and I need a dimension of the circular Williams logo as mine was completely gone. Can someone give me a measurement of the diameter of the yellow portion edge to edge?

6" exactly outside edge to outside edge.

Perfect. Thank you!

#4689 2 years ago

Ugh. Why would someone do this?! My recent purchase had painted (textured!) on the top sides and front. Sanded it down and the original art still looked good! We’ll get her looking good again.

That is nuts. I would have stripped all the parts from the cab before doing this though.

I’m not paining yet. Just was sanding a bit. Going to strip next.

A few weeks ago I showed some sad pictures of how someone painted over the front and upper sides of my newly purchased High Speed with a grey textured (like 80 grit sandpaper) paint. I did my best to restore my machine to its original look. Not perfect but a major improvement. Now to get this one into the house.

Added a coupon of Oklahoma Highway branded patrol cars for a little local flavor. Helps fill in a couple of dead areas on the play field.

Now it has me considering altering all the highway stickers to local highways….

Quoted from eyeamred2u:

If you edit the stickers, send me a PM, I would pay you for your time to make me stickers for my area CLE, Ohio
Ken

Ok I spent an hour or so working these up. Will pop them on the machine later. I can send you my file if you want edit the highways yourself or I could mock up some for you if you give me a few points of interest/highways you would like to highlight. I’m out of sticker paper but I could print and mail to you later if you don’t have a printer.

I was going to use the “exit only” sign as my hide out spinner.

#4753 2 years ago

Ok I got them on. Super happy with how it turned out for the low energy it took to make. I’ll upload my word file to goolge and share it for anyone who wants a template.

#4755 2 years ago

Here's a link to the word file containing the spinner signs template. I also have an added signed above the jet bumpers that most won't have, just delete those two if you don't want them, or simply add them to that metal part for extra goodness. I was able to find vector images for each interstate image by just typing the interstate name and "vector" into google search.

If you are having trouble just shoot me a PM and I can help make a set for you.

Big thank you to Ghengisgord and Langless28 for helping with the 3D stoplight file. I was able to get it printed. Looks like it was there from the beginning.

Quoted from Conrad:

Who was making police light bars for the highway? They look amazing. Also are the police cars from the getaway machine? I am digging the addon mods

That is arakissun who sells the police light mod. I bought a set from them and they work great. He only has a couple left for sale.

As for the police cars I just bought a set of scale 1/64 cars off Amazon of the style I liked.

Are my displays starting to go or is this a symptom of something else. Only the upper two display issues and it’s somewhat intermittent. The top right one is the worst. I swapped the ribbon cables around with no major change but I do have a new one on the way as that’s cheap and easy to check off. Board looks ok.

The board and batteries don’t have any corrosion. Batteries are also new as of a couple of months ago. The top right screen comes and goes on some of those letters.

Also try putting on those clear plastic washers on that corner and use a plastic nut to hold them on. I just did that because of the same issue.

#4991 2 years ago

I would agree with your opinion. I enjoy High Speed more than The Getaway.

#4995 2 years ago

I put LEDs in my machine but I purposely kept the original flasher bulbs because I didn't want to mess with that.

#5015 2 years ago
Quoted from tomdrum:

I'm installing a freshly hardtop PF into a local guy's HS. I have little Williams game repair experience. Two issues that weren't there prior. The saucer ejects the ball into the PF plastic and right back into the hole. Second, the ball shooter barely gets the ball up the PF.
I also have several feature lights out under the PF and it's not the bulbs as well as several switches not working.
Any help would be appreciated.

On the ball shooter, I had this issue when I just changed the rubber tip. The spring was still just as strong but the rubber part wasn't compressed enough so I suppose it absorbed too much. I really had to push it on for the ball to be making good contact, after the adjustment it works great now.

#5025 2 years ago
Quoted from jdzwir123:

That's interesting because for some strange reason I don't remember that at all. I just always assumed that it was a three ball multi ball.

Mine sometimes misses the diverters on the ramp, so this also sometimes leads to only two ball multiball.

Is this silver duct tape. The stuff used to seal duct work off?

Sure looks like it. What a great idea. I'd imagine you need at least a 3" band like this:

Quoted from DanMarino:

I’m in! What a fun game. Unsolicited, my wife said she really likes the theme.
Got a couple of problems to tinker on.
1. Player 2 alphanumeric display is missing the same segment on each numeral.
2. When turning on, the machine knocks and says to adjust the right flipper end of stroke switch. I’m not quite sure if it is a problem when it is closed or open?
3. Could use a new ramp traffic light, mine has electrical tape holding it together.
4. May get some LEDs. Is the consensus cool white?
5. Those red ramps you guys have look great!
6. Gotta eventually get those sweet pop bumper ring lights![quoted image]

Same, my wife likes it over most modern tables.

1) I have the exact same issue. I tried to troubleshoot swapping cables with not change. Mine does it intermittently and comes and goes. I assume there’s a pin not getting a good connection on that display board/screen.
2) I’m assuming your right flipper lead switch is making contact, needs slight adjustment.
3)I 3D printed one that matches the playfield theme. I can send the 3D file (which previous pinsiders emailed me) or you can buy an original replacement off Marco for just a few bucks.
4) I put LEDs only in the under the playfield lights. All above tables are original. Really helps the jewel lights pop but still has the warm feel of the original table.
5) those ramps are nice. Run about $120 but note if you send it in to have the switches swapped you will be without a ramp for a couple weeks.

Side note, I made a template and posted it a few pages back if you want to make your own local Freeway Stickers for your spinners. Kinda fun to make it your own.

Enjoy it.

Added two small LED strips (warm tone) to my game today. One in the ball drain and one under the overpass. Made a big difference.

Quoted from DanMarino:

Looks great! I need to do that light strip mod!

I used the Comet LED strips. For high speed I would recommend either "Warm White" if you have mostly incandescent or or "Sunlight" if you have a few LEDS in to match the color of the rest of the lights. I used the 4" lengths for these spots.

Quoted from The_Great_Man:

I recently put in a led strip in the trough of my game and was surprised at how easy it was. I am wondering if anyone has found good places to put led strips around the playfield. I think the game is pretty bright as it is. I was thinking maybe under the ramp would be a good spot.

I recently did the same thing for the out lane. I also added one under the upper ramp. Helps bring the upper part of the pop numbers more into view.

Quoted from The_Great_Man:

I like the light under the ramp. Did you put it in front or behind the switches in the ramp? Where did you run the wires?

I don’t actually remember for sure but I’m pretty sure it’s behind the switches. There were a few options back there that could have worked. I also used the 4” strip from Comet, but a little longer one could work too.

Quoted from DanMarino:

So what is a pretty good score for you guys on this game? I got a couple of multi-balls and 2 extra balls last night and was over 4 million. So anytime I'm over 4 million is a good game for me.

I'd agree that 4MM is a "good" score. Really anytime I get multimillion I feel pretty good about my results.
