I recently bought a High Speed which has a clear ramp already installed. I too am in the seattle area so I assume it’s one of these. However this ramp was further modded with a plexi cover screw mounted on it that seems to be obstructing the ball at times. Has anyone else run into problems that would necessitate such a cover?

Yes. I had a game with this ramp and the game was almost IMPOSSIBLE to play. No matter how much I tweaked the switch, a nailed upper flipper shot would rocket up the ramp, catch air, and miss the switch. It was extremely frustrating.
If I had kept the game, I would have fashioned a cover for it as well.
