I could use help puzzling this out. Blowing 5A fuses (general illumination string) on startup.

-All lamps are removed from the (right playfield)
-With 3J8/GI power supply connector connected, I get continuity across the fuse holder WITHOUT a fuse so something is very wrong
-With 3J8 unplugged problem fuse holder has no continuity

What should my next steps be?

How can I narrow down where a short in the string could be? There’s just continuity everywhere in the string so that doesn’t help.

I’ve visually inspected lamps and sockets but can’t see anything amiss but I’ve done tons of work (Not to GI directly) so I messed up something...

Should I get continuity across the string wires (solid purple, white with purple)? I’m not sure what normal GI string behavior is... Do the empty sockets have continuity? With the 3J8 unplugged?

Ok so that fuse holder thing could just be backfeeding noise huh...

But point stands, without desoldering every socket, how can I narrow down this issue a bit?

I keep seeing a trick where you clip or solder a lamp into the fuse holder to get a visual indicator of the fuse to do testing. Is that safe?

Unplug the gi connectors from the power supply. With all the lamps removed (make sure you got them all!!), there should be no continuity across the lamp holders. If there is cont. try this to locate the short: divide and conquer. Found the middleish lamp socket in the string and snip/disconnect one wire from it, this will isolate which half has the problem. Test which half now has the short on it. Then repeat the halving technique until you find the socket or the wires that are shorting.
