Have you ever been to an establishment with multiple pinball machines where by chalk boards or white boards host machine top 5 all time high scores.

How about having a topper with dmd/led display that scrolls through machine/player high scores, messages or ads of the day?

The device would have a simple web interface whereby an establishment or designated admin could update high scores add message of day machine out of order messages, birthday announcements. Perhaps it could also allow music selections for local jukebox via voice commands. It could also have many attract slide from the local machine or coming soon machines.

The display could work from PowerPoint like presentation slides so it helps identify the concept and easy of prototyping.

It’s a concept that I am mulling over. Anybody care to comment or suggest improvements to the idea.

The goal is to replace the chalkboards and whiteboards with something easy to manage and add more cool tech-y eye candy.

I guess the first thing to think about is how much money and time do you want to invest in this concept? The second thing to think about is how easy or difficult would it be to implement and operate. Chalkboards and whiteboards have the characteristics of being inexpensive and easy to use. You might also consider that you can buy an LCD TV/monitor and a computer off the shelf that could be used for the project, which would be very flexible for advertising establishment specials, league scores, events, etc...

Yeah I think Stern already made something like this called “Tops” or the Stern pinball tournament kit. Which is basically a DMD display that sits on top of the machine. It only worked on earlier Sterns like Ripleys, Simpsons, and LOTR. You can program it to display whatever messages you wanted. Here’s a quick video:

My son made this for me about 5 years ago. It uses a Raspberry Pi, 2 RGB dot matrix panels and wifi receiver. He wrote the custom software that I can access on my phone. It has space for 50 different messages. I can change the text and change the color of the text and then save it. The message scrolls right to left and then loops back to the beginning. He's way smarter than I am.

Be careful with your time and money, what with scorebit expanding constantly and stern connect now launched these kind of features are bound to be incoming. Pretty sure someone said at expo stern had high scores displayed for each machine in a table on a tv or something.
