Hi All,
I'm helping a friend with a Fireball Classic that is not saving high scores. Voltage is getting to the board from the remote battery holder and the high score is even saved for some time after the machine is turned off then back on. But, after some time the high score is reset to factory settings. I've scoured the manual and found on page 8 a note saying that it is "recommended that the (HSTD) level, which will build with play, be periodically reset to the factory recommended level to encourage game play" but it does not explain how to turn this HSDT resetting feature on or off. So, I feel like maybe it is just me and I cannot figure out where the settings are for this feature so that my friend's HSDT can be saved and his legend can live on without the use of a sticky note.

I appreciate any help on this.

There is voltage at the terminals on the board. Is there a chip leg I should check voltage at?

Quoted from Quench:

What battery voltage are you measuring when the machine has been off long enough for the HSTD settings get lost?
How long is "some time" for it to lose the HSTD settings? It's also losing all other book keeping settings right?
Check the supply voltage directly on the backup RAM (U8) chip. Connect the black lead of your DMM to ground, and the red positive lead of your DMM to pin 22 of the U8 RAM chip. Do this when the game is off. Depending on the brand of backup RAM chip, the minimum supply voltage for settings to be held will be somewhere around 2V.

Thanks a bunch for this. I finally checked into the issue and found no voltage at leg 22 of U8. Turned out to be a broken wire inside the battery holder. doh!
