High Roller Not Winning

Good evening Lloyd,

I’m still new to ownership and trying to learn; will appreciate any information you can provide.

I’m having an issue with the DMD on my High Roller Casino machine. When I purchased the machine the DMD worked fine but for the last several weeks it’s been having issues, although I only get a chance to work on it once every couple of weeks right now… Even in a resting state (so vibration isn’t an issue) the DMD will go from working completely fine – with full dots and lines - to any one of the three states in the pictures attached. It will then just continue cycling through those states without interaction, from working to not working, even when just sitting in attract mode. I have reseated ribbon cables multiple times, then purchased and replaced both ribbon cables leading to the DMD with the same results.

From what I can gather from reading the manual, dozens of forum posts, other sites, and watching YouTube clips the issue is that there is inconsistent power to the DMD. Even if I was to find that to be the issue I’m not really sure what I’d have to do to fix it. While I have purchased a multimeter, and have watched several videos trying to understand the process of using it, I am not sure what step to take next. I feel comfortable testing continuity with the machine off (which I’ve only developed in the last 2 months) but I’m still a little uncomfortable poking around unknowingly while the machine is on. To be honest I’ve always had a healthy fear of electrical and my involvement in this hobby is partly to help educate myself and get over that long standing fear, while trying to smash high scores in the interim.

Could you suggest some particular resources which are geared towards beginners which could help me solve this issue? Am I missing something simple I should check which may resolve this? Or at this point is it just best to call someone to come fix it and try to learn from watching what they’re doing? I am really interested in learning more about doing the repairs myself so I hopefully don’t want to have to send something out for repair.

Thank you,

Stu

Hello Stu

I'd check power to the large connector on the DMD. You'll need the manual to see what voltage each pin should have. Pinwiki section 4.9 can help you. https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Sega/Stern_White_Star_Repair

If power is good, then I'd suspect the DMD itself, which probably isn't repairable. If the MPU has an issue, you'd need an expert for that.

Thank you,

Lloyd
