I ordered a color DMD the other day to put in my HRC. Looking froward to it. The video looked great!

#52 2 years ago

I just installed it and it is! Nicely done.

Next, I've got some parts on order to overhaul the shooters on this thing so I can set it up a little steeper. You really have to have them in tune to make it up that ramp without more than one ball getting stuck there.

Quoted from crobby:

Does anyone have examples of different audio clips that may or may not play based on the setting?

It's not like the game swears like a sailor. But some of the more racy comments are removed. I'd have to listen to it again to get an idea, but I'm pretty sure things like "That's the wrong hole" are taken out.

Quoted from MadMaxDad:

that guy kept getting a 4-way Combo award. I'd never seen it - anybody know how to get it?

I put it in as a joke. It's 4 different slingshots in a row within a certain amount of time.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting. I seem to hear "That's the wrong hole" (and "Lady luck's a bitch", and others that I'd expect to be removed) regardless of my setting. I think that at some point, I did an install of the "Home" settings. I wonder if that somehow may be overriding the adult language flag. I'll keep tweaking and see what I can come up with.

#55 2 years ago

Hey Keefer, I've said it before, but you did a great job on this game. Everyone that plays it is totally addicted. Thank you sir!

I've been a little curious about Jon Norris's role as it looks like this is the only game he did for Stern along with Golden Cue for Sega a few years earlier. Most everything else he did was for Premier in the 80s and 90s. Is he still around?

I changed from adult speech enabled a little while ago and I have definitely heard "Lady luck is a bitch" and I just heard the "I'll take them anyway I can getter just like my women". I am a bit worried that these comments get through.

Am I looking at the correct setting? Adjustment 64 Adult Speech Enabled? I have that to "No" Currently.

#57 2 years ago

Honestly I'm not sure I can answer the question about the speech accurately anymore it's been so long. I'd be surprised if the swearing got through but it's possible.

Afaik Jon is still working at deep root for a few years now. He had the original concept for the game and the initial playfield layout which was later cleaned up by Joe Balcer and even later Borgie.

Thank you sir, I did not know that.

Funny, as I was just originally storing the game for a friend for a few days, and upon first play I said something like this is the best Gottlieb System3 I've ever played. Then I saw that Jon was involved. lol. After a few more plays I just bought it from him and upgraded to the director's cut and never looked back.

And the colordmd on it is amazing. Really makes it look sharp. Except it is a little distracting when you are trying to keep your eye on the ball.

#59 2 years ago

And you know it's a keeper, Keefer, when you start buying all these spare parts.

Displays and ROM are available.
A very short preview. The hand that sweeps over the display during cheat mode was a challenge. And Casino Frenzy is very very colorful - try to get the Super Duper Mega Extreme Jackpot !

My timing is great! I am going down to WV this Wed to get a HRC from a Pinsider. When I checked Colordmd.com today I saw the game listed but no video which Randy loaded today. This just went through this thread and saw that game was colorized only a few months ago - I will be ordering one when I get the game back to MI! These are great and just the short video looks awesome - Good Job!!!

I have speaker lights to add and Iguess I’m obligated to get the color DMD now as well. Does the DMD come in LCD? The smoothed graphics are so much better.

Looks good. Yes LED and LCD per the ColorDMD website. Lighted speakers on deck for me.

Hi guys! I picked up my HRC last weekend!

Could you guys let me know where the best LED kits are for this game? Mine is totally incandescent, and I want to convert it. Your machines look gorgeous!

Also, the 4 drop targets are working fine, but the clear target that activates the 3 of diamonds is not working at all. How does that target come out? I wanted to check the wiring. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Jason

Considering picking up this title. Wondering if it gets old fast or not though? Can anyone comment on how deep the code is? I really like Sopranos, which is my only Stern. Is the code on that level? Thanks for any insight.

Can someone explain the directors cut roms? How is it different from the original code? Thanks

The rules are definitely not as deep as the Sopranos. The main part of the game is getting to the 3 main multi ball modes with either ball locks or winning casino games, then going for lots of points there. They all have different rules and will test your multiball playing abilities. Getting the Super Duper Mega Extreme Jackpot in slot machine multiball is worth it for the callout alone.

Games runs a lot faster (I rewrote the os), some games were cleaned up in rules and presentation, better light shows.

It's not the deepest, but it's not bad. It's a fair amount different from most other games, so there's that. I still have mine.

I just picked up one of these last week. Bought it having never played it live (have played it on Xbox SX though), for a really good price, especially considering it apparently has been HUO it’s entire life. The underside of the play field is like straight out of the Sega/Stern factory in 2001.

Rubbers were replaced, lights converted to LED’s, custom shooter rod added, and converted to NVRam by previous owner.

Also, ROM updated to 3.0.

Going to add mirror blades since I have them lying around.

Only issue I can see is that the trans light wheel doesn’t spin (the lighting effect). It just flashes.

So far loving the game. The Texan callouts are Uber cheesy but entertaining.

I’ll say this about HRC, it’s a great game for working on and improving your multiball skills. That’s for damn sure.

#72 1 year ago

Yeah it's fairly punishing, tempted to narrow the outlanes a bit as I'm finding it quite frustrating at the moment.

Anyone got any tips to stop the wireform moving around at the entry? It's tight with washers on the posts everywhere else, it just annoys me when it moves slightly when the ball comes off the plastic ramp onto the wireform.

Hallo together; I am new here in this Forum,

I bought a real pinball machine "HRC" High Roller Casino from Stern, issued in Year 2001.

I need your help/support if possible

I am looking for the colorization files for the DMD ( a colored Dot Matrix )
a full color LED DMD Display.

The files should fit to following system : PIN2DMD

Please see at : https://pin2dmd.com/

As my technical knowledge is NOT so big.

I add a photo to this message, where you see sample files from a real pinball machine

World Cup Soccer 94. Which I also bought 2 Year ago, this plays quit well.

At the moment is it inpossible to get a colored LED DMD for this pinball machine.

By the way the pinball is a very nice playing pinball.

Therefore I am trying to contact people who could help

QUESTIONS:

Do you know how I could get this kind of files ???
( the suffix are : dat, fsq, pal ) for this pinball.
Or maybe you know somebody who could help ???

For your support I like to thank you very in advance

Greetings from Helmar

Hi! I have a HRC, and I was thinking of buying this ColorDMD: https://shop.colordmd.com/colordmd-replacement-display-for-high-roller-casino-pinball-machine/. Not sure if it is worth sinking $429 into the machine though...

In regards to the Director’s cut 3.0 ROM. Do I just order the game and display 3.0 roms or do I have to order the sound ROMs also? Any advice is appreciated.

#76 1 year ago

Anybody?

#77 1 year ago

You will need sound roms also, it has a couple updated jackpot callouts and sound cues when hitting roll n' win target IIRC.

Having issues when I plunge the ball up the shooter lane. The ball does not go around the roulette wheel enough times. It usually just drops the ball right away in one of the holes. Anybody else having issues with this? By the way I lowered the back legs that really didn’t do too much. Do I need a stronger spring? Any replies are appreciated.

Stronger spring might help. First I would take apart the rod assembly and clean everything really well, don't lubricate anything. This is intended to be a dry system and any lube will only dry up and make things sticky in the future.

The one im working on now was lubricated sometime in its life and was not moving smoothly in the assembly. After cleaning everything thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and reassembling it works great again. I can usually get 2/3 full spins before it drops into a roulette space.

Thanks Flashball.

Another thing to consider is the roulette wheel has a single screw that doesn't mount anything and according to the manual, serves one purpose of making the ball spin less times and can be removed to spin more. I removed it and it spins like crazy now.

So I'm having issues with the ball lock post releasing two balls instead of one. For example ball one is locked and you hit roll n win, it will release both balls instead of one. Any idea on how to adjust it?

One of hidden bugs for this game. Can adjust the post a little higher if I remember. Both the HRC and Getaway I had, had the same issue.

How did you make out with the ROM upgrades, where they worth doing? Any noticeable improvements? I'm thinking of doing with mine as well.

What's the deal with the two white squares between the pops? Are they just spaces for the flashers to come through?

Hi All, just got my HRC the other day. Love this game and been on my list for years.

It needs a tear down and full shopping but I started with a quick wipe down and noticed that it looks like 2 posts were removed! Not sure if or why but I can’t find anything in the manual or photos of the pop bumpers facing down to the drain.
If anyone can post a picture or knows exactly what posts go here’s I would be much appreciative. I’m guessing a post and sleeve on the left and a mini post with a tiny ring on the right??
Thanks!

Sorry I don’t. My machine came already shopped with LED lights. What I can tell you is be very careful with all the underneath Playfield light sockets they are very very fragile. I had to mess around with a couple of the lights because they weren’t seated properly. You need to be very gentle with them.

Your intuition is correct. The one I picked up didn’t have comets but was on the rom version one earlier than the latest. I didn’t notice any major ghosting. Updated to the latest rom (which noted new light shows in the release notes) and the ghosting became pretty bad.

I had the same exact problem when I updated to 3.0 with Comit LEDS in. Did you revert back to incandescent or find another fix? I haven't experimented with it yet.

I did the rom update for a friend I don’t think they noticed/cared, so it stayed as-is.

FYI I'm currently making a mod to help with speaker hum/buzz. I have a Simpsons Pinball Party, and the hum was bothering me. I ended up finding this pinside discussion (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/tspp-speaker-humbuzz-fixed) which describes how to make the mod and how they work. The first post on that page has a video showing the process. I have them on Simpson's and Ripley's and they help immensely. If you'd like a pair and don't have the time or tools to make them, I will ship a pair to your door for $22. If interested please direct message me as I'm not here often. Thank you

My apologizes if this has been asked and answered elsewhere. I search but could not find.

I picked up a HRC the other day in great condition. I am shopping it out now but when I am currently playing it the ball will get stuck after the slot machine ramp comes down. The ball is unable to get over the edge of the backside of the ramp after it goes down. A hearty shake will not get it over the edge. I have to either take the glass off or lift up the front enough to give it some inertia. Is this a common issue and is there an easy fix? Can the ramp be adjusted? Thanks!

#98 1 day ago
Quoted from stvns78:

The ball is unable to get over the edge of the backside of the ramp after it goes down.

Can you post a pic of the ramp in the up and down position?

I'm not in front of the game, but page 86 in the manual may help.
https://sternpinball.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/High_Roller_Casino_Manual.pdf

I would start by looking at the microswitch (2). An adjustment there may stop the movement of the motor later so the ramp goes down more.

#99 1 day ago

Is the play field pitch proper? You can always adjust the leg levelers a little. I have this machine and it very rarely gets stuck there, but if it does, all it takes is a little nudge to move it.
