Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Just read article in another thread about how important a color screen is and think it is a real shame that these $8000 toys still have antiquated dots.
I bought STLE and it may have been worth the money if it had had a color LCD screen.
Think I will hold out until Stern finally stop the dots!

I understand wanting to have an LCD. I don't understand refusing to buy a pin because it doesn't.

They have no impact on how the game plays or the rules etc. Yes, if used correctly an LCD can enhance the overall presentation and experience, but not to the degree that I would ever refuse to buy a pin because it didn't have one.

I guess I meant to say that for the money I would expect a color dmd.

Would it stop me buying? I guess not as I like the color dmd's that you can fit so if I get a Tron, blue color dmd will be sweet

If we could just get Craz to stay over here and keep you over on the hobbit forum it would all be perfect!

Anyone taking a Stern tour that can take some pics of the game on the line?

There will be games to play at Expo, so pics and videos will be readily available at that time. That's still a month away, though, and I assume many people will have taken delivery of their pros by then.

yeah, that is the only thing than really bugs me....more cash, and I believe that this is the first LE from Stern without a shaker motor included unless the ST-LE did not have one?? What gives??

#309 9 years ago

STLE had one but not Xmen.

thanks to your post my TWD LE will come with a shaker too

I don't think METLE had one either, did it?

Nope, METLE didn't have one either. My understanding is that Borg prefers to spend the money that would go into a shaker on the playfield toys and features instead (he obviously has a budget he has to stay within) since you can always add a shaker yourself later if you care, but you can't just add your own cool playfield feature.

Makes sense to me!

Agree and Stern preps the game for it so its stupid easy to add.

So that gave him what, an extra $25 to work with? The markup on the shakers must be insane!

Maybe it doesn't result in much (who knows), but I'd MUCH rather have them put in a ramp that flips up to reveal a zombie bash head underneath, or "well walker with guts" -or whatever...
cause you can upgrade to a shaker later but you can't upgrade these other things on your own.

I have bad news for you: the DMD is one of the least antiquated parts of that $8,000 toy.

oh no, they have the slingshot almost/always at the same place for the pass what? 20+ years.

edited* what i'm trying to say is, at some point something is going to look like something already done. i find it funny when a new machine comes out and someone dig another machine and compare the differences, yes it will look like something we saw in the past, there is no doubt. it's a pinball!

#329 9 years ago

This is the third machine we've seen pictures of powered on... we've even seen pictures under the play field and up close shots of the bottom side of the star rollovers.

Someone, for the love all that is good in the world, take a video and capture audio!!!!!

press record for 30 seconds, and if your lucky press start before.

Maybe stern has an embargo on videos before the code reaches a certain point.

Time for me to back out of TWD LE.

Luckily I have not yet sent in any money.

This is why despite the theme we are waiting to see games. Could be great, ok or bad but why not wait?
Once we get off this must have it train the journey is quite nice...

Quoted from DCFAN:

I was thinking the same thing.

If XM is a mirror of Tron (and it appears to be) then TWD should be very similar to Tron (absent the scoop)?

Quoted from rockrand:

I can't recall Stern having any game on location pre-release since Avengers. Perhaps they decided this was a bad idea after badbilly and I went to Gameworks, filmed some early video of Avengers, and ripped the shit out of it on Pinside.

Quoted from zucot:

I'm wondering the same thing. But it seems like they (folks with games) could just say it!

I actually could use an excitement booster myself. I think you may be right as well in that there will be no Merle custom call outs . . . they would have advertised the crap out of that.

Sound and call outs can make or break a game so a video is a must before I purchase anything.

Have the monotone insert lights been discussed? The pictures of the Pro that were posted from Australia appeared to mainly have clear inserts and white bulbs?

Not much according to my memory...

For me it seems like Stern planned to use RGB LEDs on all models, but realized that they have to cut costs on the Pros in the last stages of production....i.e. after the playfields were already made with white/clear inserts.

I could be wrong, but TWD looks somewhat unusual colorless - almost to much to be a design decision.

#345 9 years ago

comet LEDs will make it pop for sure...

It is just the shots being located in the same locations between Tron and Walking Dead. That does not mean the same things happen in each shot, only that they are shot paths similarly located. Pascal is the one that brought it up.

I feel ya. I see the similarities in the layout.
