I just emailed my distributor directly to see where they stood on these issues , I flat out ask if they would make it right if this were to happen. I hope It does not ever come to that.
I will let you guys know what they say .

Quoted from jwilson:Also the composite materials don't take screws well and you'd need to use t-nuts everywhere.
Understood.
Quoted from mayuh:Why didn't StarTrek, WWE, Mustang or even Kiss have any issues? I know many of these, even those in bars with zero ghosting.
IDK; there could have been a change to a more "environment friendly" / gov mandated Clear which is cause this issue.
My Star Trek is an LE... so it has a more layers and/or thicker clear.
Quoted from shacklersrevenge:I like Sterns, but it's all too apparent how much they are shaving off their games now in order to ''save money'' All this saving and shaving yet they are demanding their distributors to raise the costs.
They are making a lot of money and it's seemingly becoming just all about profits. I mean, thanks for the clearer decal'ed cabinets (finally) but the rest feels like a real F U to the fan base that has put them where they are.
Definitely. I saw Steve Ritchie speak at a pinball expo and he totally just talked about saving money and how "We do what sells" when asked to make an original concept. That was pretty cringe worthy

The first time I saw ghosting on a new Stern was GOT.
What has changed?!
I have a GoT pro from the very first batch that went out to Canada. There's no issue with insert ghosting on my game and I just looked last night. My games are in an unfinished basement which is usually cool.
Rob
Quoted from Kiwipinhead:This is my I500 that sat in a barn for 8-10 years, no humidity or heat or AC, Temperature in NZ swings from -5 to 30 + degrees Celsius through out the year...
21 years old and No CC issues or insert ghosting...
PS... this is a LS playfield...
Dang haha. That's an awesome Time-Out card though.
Quoted from RipleYYY:mine...
Crap it's starting, I can't imagine Stern is gunna send out mass quantitys of populated playfields over this issue.

Best way to deal with this is to not partake until they fix it
Just curious folks, how does it look when lit and normal viewing distance?
I see a lot of close ups when the machine is turned off.
Quoted from oldskool1969:Just curious folks, how does it look when lit and normal viewing distance?
I see a lot of close ups when the machine is turned off.
I'm more interested to know if it's a European problem or a wide spread one

You wouldn't see it unless someone else pointed it out to you.
Quoted from lordloss:so what happens if you press down on the ghosting insert? Does it just bounce back?
No. Nothing happens. However, if the ghosting is on the corner of the insert, you can feel the edge of the insert. So I think at those points, the insert wear will start.
Quoted from flashinstinct:I'm more interested to know if it's a European problem or a wide spread one
Definitely widespread. My GOT pro received feb 2016image_(resized).jpegimage_(resized).jpegimage_(resized).jpeg
On the targaryen insert (top left), you can feel wear the insert has sunken away from the clear with your finger.
I will say that I've put about a thousand plays on the game after these pics and I haven't seen or feel it get any worse.
Has anyone called and talked to Stern? They aren't that hard to get a hold of...
If so, what did they say?
Something must have changed at Stern or one of their suppliers, I don't recall ever seeing these common issues on older games. These issues all started becoming common place a couple games back. Question is what has changed?
Quoted from Crash:So wow, two more confirmed cases since yesterday??
well, lets admit not all new owners are reading this & watching their pins...
to be honest, i havent see this prob for mine until i start reading this topic
i will 1st contact my distributor to point him here, and see what is possible to do or not
again, its a pinball machine, and logically we have to accept a "normal" use in time, while playing it
but actually seems we have a big prob with this case, and for sure a default in something new, which have normally passed a QC
than what now !? again, GB pro is 6K euros, that means +/- 3 monthes of salary for me... :/
Quoted from CubeSnake:Has anyone here, ummm-picked up the PHONE to call their customer service on this?
I left a message this morning. No call back yet.

You own one machine. Is that your sample size?
Quoted from CubeSnake:Has anyone here, ummm-picked up the PHONE to call their customer service on this?
Contacted my distro and I'm keeping him posted on if it gets any worse. Hasn't yet.
Quoted from Flato:Are there not certain laws that protect consumers above and beyond what some companys claim as there warranty?
You have the right to consult a lawyer and have him read you the fine print before your purchase.
Quoted from o-din:You have the right to consult a lawyer and have him read you the fine print before your purchase.
I keep Jackie Chiles on retainer for instances such as this.
Quoted from eggbert52:You own one machine. Is that your sample size?
Maybe you should have checked my previously owned games I've had 6 NIB Sterns
Quoted from Schabs81:Well i havent looked for this on my gb yet. I will when i get home tonight.
It will have the same warranty. But you might want to read it anyway.
Quoted from Kiwipinhead:This is my I500 that sat in a barn for 8-10 years
That thing is cherry

Selling TRON kinda ruins your Credibility......
Quoted from centerflank:Selling TRON kinda ruins your Credibility......
You may be right, but the guy I sold mine to didn't ask for a warranty.

Stop posting in this thread or its gonna get kicked to the basement.

Ah, the basement. The place for all unresolved issues.....

as much as I loved my Tron & the franchise, my son is called Flynn. When there mum ran up a shit load of debt and left as a result, all my pins but one had to go. Roof above their heads was more important than daddy's gameroom
Within next couple of months I'll hopefully be rebuilding my collection and probably adding a TWD prem & ST prem to the lineup if all goes well

You could have lived in the TRON box.
Quoted from centerflank:You could have lived in the TRON box.
Everyone knows Tron box only has 1 bedroom I needed 3 rooms so the house was the choice
But I'll be getting a Tron again hopefully with a couple fresh additions.
Quoted from beelzeboob:It all just looks like wood to me.

That's a good move in all seriousness obviously, real life is important, these toys are not.
Again... Ghosting grew and two more inserts. I'm down to 4 inserts ghost free. Pin wasn't switched on for 3 days...

What is the born on date stamped on the side of your playfield, could it be the inserts have changed and do not adhere well with the clear , just spit balling .
Quoted from centerflank:So your game is fully functional and you are completely enjoying it?
Yeah people should buy stern machines and just have fun on them.
Lower your expectations..
These days it is hard to make a buck with a pinball factory and stern needs to buy cheap shitty parts in order to make a profit.
Bally williams days are over and you all know it?
Be happy stern IS building pinballs, otherwise an average AFM would cost $25.000
the Price for the SM VE is 50% higher then the RED one !!!!!
so i think we could expect a pf Quality like they have done it the last 30 years
they have a major problem and if i would have a GB LE on pre-order i would not take it without a warranty that the pf will NOT get this insert Problems
sorry to much money
What is the actual count for games with issues on this?
Anoying a least but is it really a widespread problem ? , we're talking thousands of games in that case ...
SMve and GoT in my collection are both flawless, and have been moved around and subjected to changing temperature/humidity , I would have expected that wood to have caused ghosting but no.
The thing is, with as much as prices have gone up, I think there's an expectation that the quality would, at the very least, remain the same. We have accepted the cost cutting on things that we can live with, like the lockdown bar clips, no slide rails, etc., but bad inserts and clearcoat are not something 90% of us are willing to live with because we'll see it every time we play the game and identify that with a flawed/defective game.. which we shouldn't get from a game 1 year old that costs $8K!
