So here's a thought, maybe this has been discussed before. Just leave a USB drive in the plug under the playfield (or in the back of the PC if there is space) and have a running process backup scores/settings every so often (end of game, on a timer, etc). Ideally a BIOS update of some sort could be included so any reset parameters (due to battery loss) in the BIOS could maybe modified on boot? That way, if/when the battery fails this little guy will rebuild BIOS config and boot up with restored scores and such. Also protection for when/if the hard drive fails. Sounds like this could even be a code update to each game retroactively that could also be a nice little selling point for what shouldn't be a big deal to write (barring the BIOS stuff, I could see that being impossible).
Maybe a christmas present to your dedicated fans?
