Why do people insist on posting complaints before giving the manufacturer an opportunity to address the issue? If the answers don’t appease you or they refuse to communicate then I would understand going another route. In typical Pinside fashion it more fun to rile everyone up, huh?

#102 3 years ago

Man. This is pretty earth shattering news right here. Wonder if this will be the downfall of JJP?

#103 3 years ago
Quoted from Deez:

or just the stickers......

#104 3 years ago

I could certainly see how someone who had serial #0001 would be pissed to find out there were other pins out there with that same number, totally destroys any uniqueness and value associated with it.

Quoted from BudManPinFan:

A serial number would be unique - the LE number should be - but apparently may not be due to a mistake. But there isn't much that can be done if the same LE number is given to two different pins. What else could JJP do but to say sorry?!

I would say try not to get so attached to the LE number - I would think just having the LE would be good enough.

But back to your example about LE #1 - it would be in bad form to have more than one of the LE #1's - but I really doubt it was done on purpose. My experience is that they kept a spreadsheet and tried to associate an LE number to the Build Number/Serial Number and just missed it.

Deception is not a good business practice!!!

#107 3 years ago

I didn't read every post but why does no one think it's not JJP but an owner making up a fake number to make it more special to sell it? Just wondering if this is just a lot of BS smoke or if JJP is really that lazy or deceiving that they would go through the trouble of making duplicate numbers and risking their reputation. I personally would guess it is a fake number, not JJP, but if it is JJP then shame on them.

#108 3 years ago

I am going to reserve Tin Man edition LE WOZ #1939 Immediately!

#109 3 years ago
Quoted from porkcarrot:

This exactly. The whole concept should be eliminated.

The concept exists because it works and it makes money.

If pinside ran any existing pinball company, they’d be out of business in a month.

Isn't there a recent post about several signed prototype #1's in existence as well?

If I remember correctly, both the back boxes had similar signed prototype in sharpie.

Multiple No. 1’s!? JJP needs to answer to this.

I posted earlier in the thread, but some have pointed out a fact that I did not take into consideration when I initially read this and felt that it was "screwed up" for this to happen. There were 1500 RR games made (or supposedly) and they let you pick your own number as long as it wasn't already taken (as was my experience when I bought).

BUT.... If you pick a number OUTSIDE of 1-1500 which is what the numbering system was intended for, then that is a special order sticker and not really a game number. There IS NO game 1939 out of a 1500 game run. Its just a custom sticker at that point. So if he makes multiple 1939 stickers, so be it. That is not a game number. It is a sticker with the year the movie was made on it. As others had said, if there were multiple game #1's, then that would be an issue. But once you go past 1500, well...

Crap like this makes me embarrassed to be a collector of anything. I know exactly what number all my games are: one. I have one. That’s all that matters. Couldn’t care less how many other people have one, or what number is stamped on mine, or theirs. If you’re buying something because exclusivity makes you feel special, grow up. Just play your insanely expensive luxury toy that we’re all fortunate to own, and sleep well at night. If unique numbers give you a boner, look at the serial number.

#115 3 years ago

I think the OP is reading much deeper into this. It's just a simple Bookkeeping thing, I have made the same mistake on some of our products.
Are you not going to play the game now??
Why not just call JJP directly and ask them to look it up and see what the deal is? Instead, you just come on here with guns blazing.
Jack has stopped coming on Pinside for over three years..so it's likely he will never see this message.

#116 3 years ago

I am interested in the answer. I try to keep a certain number in my collection and was recently denied by jjp as it was already released. Just noting this as they did not give me my number to make a sale.

It’s embarrassing but it’s the price we pay for pinball exploding the way it has the past 10 years.

Good thing? Eye of the beholder.

Not JJP, but another pinball company when I went to register it said this has already been registered...in Australia.

I did a service ticket, and they emailed me a new #.

It had already been taken also.

3rd time, they laughed and said this is getting embarrassing, and finally gave me a # and sent me stickers and paperwork to have a game with it's own serial number.

I printed the emails and put them in the coin box, so when I sell the game the next buyer has all that history.

But OP posted picture of the carton which says “Serial # 1939.” He paid big money for this game and chose a number that was clever and meaningful, in reliance on the (assumed) uniqueness of each serial number. I don’t think OP is out of line at all (in this thread anyway) pointing out to all of us and JJP that JJP had a shit process of ensuring unique serial numbers. There is no resolution that would work here except a signed apology card from Jack for OP to have in his game.

My guess is he was referring to the Other 1939 game listed which does not have the “sticker” on the game rather on a piece of paper with the game. Note i am Not saying either is fake just guessing what he meant was possibly in question.

My sticker, and I would assume everyone's else, didn't come on the game but as a sticker on a piece of paper with the bag of goodies. I didn't put mine on the apron, I don't think it adds much visually, so it's still in the bag.

This is exactly it. There’s really no way for Jack to fix this. I wouldn’t even want the game in my house anymore.

Game number 1939, not serial number

#128 3 years ago

if you enjoy the game then it should not matter
you have had years of fun with the game, id bet that you had not even thought about the number after you unboxed the machine

-1
#129 3 years ago

You know honestly I doubt very seriously that JJP did that on purpose. The games are for sale all the time, how long do you think before they thought someone would figure that out? C'mon! Maybe they did it on purpose or maybe just maybe it was just an error. If there are like 4 or 5 or 10 that are that number (same year the movie was released) I would say oh yeah they did that on purpose. Its also possible different people in the company promised that number to different customers, the line worker doesn't know. JJP probably had 100 plus people ask for that number, and they probably made a mistake.

I doubt its a conspiracy and I doubt very seriously its going to impact the value of your game.

I'm betting its an honest mistake from different sales people giving out that number.

All the same having that number is SUPER COOL and yes I would agree if there was only one machine with that number, but it was still probably a mistake based on a lot of people asking for it.

Glad I found this thread, what a great idea. I'm going to make a plaque for mine that says game 1939 as well.

#131 3 years ago
Quoted from Goronic:

Game number 1939, not serial number

Well its not even game number 1939.. it's just plain stupidity. Why on earth do people get excited over stickers of made up numbers that doesn't mean shit?

#132 3 years ago

I find it odd that JJP would even have more then 1 of each number sticker. Why print multiple stickers with the same number, unless it’s planned to use the same number twice.

I can understand the OP’s frustration, I’d be equally pissed off. If I give a company Money for a unique product that they advertise. Then I’d expect it to be unique. People laugh it off because the number is 1939. (Super cool) but what about a signed #1 prototype? The games value will definitely be affected by that special number.

If this is “just a mistake” then it speaks volumes about jjp’s bookkeeping skills. If you can’t keep customers orders organized then you have larger internal problems then just printing 2 stickers with the same number. Serial numbers and product numbers should match. Because they don’t match at best we see mistakes being made, at worst we see customers deceived on purpose.

Here’s another example. Wasn’t a stern hulk Le #194 stolen years back from a movie theater? If anyone else has a hulk LE # 194 it wouldn’t look good for the seller of that game, everyone would assume it was stolen. What it one of these 1939 games went missing? Would the other owner automatically be suspected as a thief?

Im surprised that noone has made a parody on this already using that video clip from the movie the downfall, having Hitler bashing this diabolical number scheme

#134 3 years ago

100+ posts in and no one has thought to photoshop a 1939 sticker onto their game to pump the drama???

Exactly

#138 3 years ago
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Every JJP game is like this. It is not built into the code.

Actually, the game number was built into the code on very early WOZ's. I know because i had one and the number that came up on the screen when you booted the game did not match the number on the apron. It never bothered me, but it became an issue when I went to sell the game. Unfortunately, it wasn't as simple as just going into the software and changing it. Ultimately, JJP solved the problem, but I think it required re-flashing the BIOS.

I play pinball, not serial numbers

Why dont you PM or email Jack about this, instead of discussing here?

So here's the thing I don't understand. If you can select numbers that are outside the LE range, what is the point of the number? I realize that some people like having a specific number, but if that number isn't tied to the production run, it's basically meaningless. You might as well offer people the opportunity to pick their number on non-limited games as well. It just seems utterly ridiculous to have game number 1939 out of a 1500 game run.

I agree. I had no idea this was being done. The whole JJP numbering thing really is completely meaningless and idiotic.

Totally agree...I guess JPP tracks this stuff internally (or apparently not).....personally I could give two shits about a serial number. My guess is he's contacted JJP and they haven't responded yet.....

You missed the point that this number is outside of the limited edition range of numbers. Anyone who requests a number outside the range gets a custom sticker printed up.

They probably didn't just print out stickers: 1, 2, 3, 4 etc because you can use any number you like that is 4 digits. So when they built your machine they printed out your requested number. It was likely a mistake. Human error happens to every company.

I would like a POTC LE, MBr LE, TRON LE etc - and it won't matter what the LE number is. I won't not get it if it doesn't have a number on it I like. I get it because I like the art package, extra items, etc. Number is a number - I would like the pinball machine.

I hear Modcouple, Mezelmods, and Modfather are making really nice 1939 plates for all of us. Now, no one will be left out.
Seriously the LE thing got out of hand these past several years. Love what American Pinball started, one packed model, one version.

I still think you need 2 models - one that is more 'affordable' and one that has all the bells and whistles. Otherwise, they will just build premiums and LE models and charge about 10K

Some folks, and operators, would still like to get a pin at a 'reasonable' price for a lower cost of ownership yet still enjoy the pin/theme. I think JJP pin models all play the same, just differ in cosmetics only (I may be wrong on that though). Minus the flying monkey...and wonkavator on wonka?

My name is Ken Cromwell and I'm the Communication Specialist for Jersey Jack Pinball. This situation was recently brought to my attention and I wanted to address it in an effort to clear up any confusion. I do apologize for any confusion as there was absolutely an error with two 1939 decals being generated for two different machines.

Wizard of Oz Ruby Red edition is limited to 1500 games. After doing some research it turns out that the OP had requested 1939 and that number was given assigned to his machine. That should have prevented an additional 1939 number request from being accepted. The seller of the WOZRR that is currently listed did NOT request a number for his machine but a 1939 decal was generated and shipped by mistake. I've contacted the seller of this machine to update him with the correct number of his machine that we have on file (it is not 1939). This was an error on our end as we would not have ever duplicated a number intentionally.

Again, our apologies for the error and for any confusion this may have caused. I would encourage everyone to reach out to us directly (with any problems, concerns, or feedback) as we have a very open line of communication. It would allow us the opportunity to serve you to the best of our ability.

#150 3 years ago

I have a feeling that apology just isn’t going to cut it.

Have you sent an armed repo team to the home of the other, non-deserving 1939 recipient?

Or are you trying legal measures first?
