One reason may be the bank is closed and he can’t withdraw enough cash at a tome through an ATM.
Another reason could be he’s sitting on a bunch of paypal funds and wants to use it up.

E-transfer was great. I miss that. Maybe one day - but for now people still write cheques (oops i mean checks) for stuff. And use pennies. Don’t get me started on those....
