Williams 2 1/4" flippers added to mine.
And external sound system.

Internal speakers still play and have their own independent volume adj from the external output.

After eight or so hours of playing this machine i must say i do enjoy it 10x more than i thought i would. Its a really fun game imo. I added "cheater-flippers" but they have a benifit of hitting the ball on it's equator and less stress to the machine. No added ball spinning.

The original flipper sits up higher in the machine from my pic, making the angle of flipper-to-ball kinda shitty. The rubber constantly forces ball into the table and also bad stress in the flipper itself. Ball ends up spinning as well.

No wonder they break when ball is hustling down and you smack it like a baseball bat with the flipper. POP...broken flipper at the lame tack-welds.

No big deal and easy to replace, but one would have thought that by now humans could have figured out how to make a forking flipper by now. Right?

2 1/4" flippers at fully closed position. And a wine opener.

Same thing for Can Crusher and WN of course. Plenty of space still for challenging game play.

Quoted from emkay:

Yeah, I thought that was interesting too. I'm guessing they could be used to upgrade other Sterns rather inexpensively (as in, $30 at Walmart):
https://www.kenwood.com/usa/car/speakers/kfc-1066s/

The upgraded sound system includes stereo capability for sound tracks, higher quality sound files (double the data 44100 vs 22050), and a subwoofer.

Not only just a couple Kenwood speakers. Just adding the speakers is not going to bring you up to the Premium Sound system specs.

Two people posted on FB primus pinball group with broken flippers. Big ehrl (bought Two machines!) and another dude in Baltimore MD. (Danny)

Probably same guys? No?

Stern didnt make the flippers. Another company supplied.

Im Scott Hudson btw on facebook. Hi!

#649 5 years ago

Then wow, that makes three out of five people i know that bought one.

Add Williams 2 1/4 flippers and enjoy! $8 each.
Abandon the OEM 2" and move on with life. Plays great and really hard to flip the score. Most new players average around 3000 to 4000 points per game on my machine. 10min or so.

Of course. Its a problem. Minor one, but frustrating for a new owner. Its a bummer and shouldn't happen.

#654 5 years ago

I don't think this is a major problem. Its one of the easiest and cheapest parts to replace imo.

Poor engineering and/or blind human welder assembly?

Its kinda crazy to fail right out of the box though for three people out of a small few who have the machine.

If you consider $8 for a part and three minutes of labor a big deal then i guess, sure man. Call it a BIG deal if you want? I wouldnt myself.

#660 5 years ago

I guess this was an issue with WNBJM and Can Crusher as well, after searching I see that.
So, yeah....it is a known issue of course and still not fixed.
To still be happening to such a high percentage of new pinball owners is kinda messed-up.
I do understand that.

But good news! Easy and cheap to fix.

Mine scratch my field as well. I removed and replaced within days of setting it up.
I have same marks.

Score reel wheel came loose.
Needed to tighten set-screw

#664 5 years ago

1/16th inch hex.

All owners need this to tighten the score reels, and add lock-tight.

Loooong reach 1/16"

Mine loosened within first week of play too

#665 5 years ago

Fok those original flippers.
Throw them over a bridge and get something else ASAP

#669 5 years ago

Brazilian Ipe wood.
First pass (roughing) done.
Now we go smaller tooling and then some 5axis to get into mouth area.

Also painting my original pull knob.
Still some more ro be done when it dries.
Then i dunk it in a thick layer of an industrial epoxy to seal it. A 2-part epoxy

#686 5 years ago

Yeah it plays fine. Old classic design. I find it entertaining and no regrets me buying one.

#688 5 years ago

Nice score mate!

You definatly have a score reel starting to come loose. Stern didnt use lock-tight for set-screws in counter reels. Most owners will probably experience a loose reel or two. Starts off as digit not centered in window amd will eventually free-spin. You will need a looooong reach 1/16th hex driver for a simple fix. Or need to remove entire assembly from machine and service on a bench.

My playing field is dimpled a lot already. Im stripping mine and coating with a super hard epoxy. Also adding led lights under all posts. Over 30 of them.

#689 5 years ago

So, this machine is at pinball palace? You were there to fix it or something? Its not yours? Right?

#690 5 years ago

Maybe the rubber Stern uses is garbage?. Two of mine splitting already and need replacement.

Silicone replacements?

.

#693 5 years ago

I was going to swap all to silicon even before i had the machine. I expect wear and tear and broken parts. Thats normal with any machine. Of course those areas take a beating. Im not mad at all guys.
