Of course. Its a problem. Minor one, but frustrating for a new owner. Its a bummer and shouldn't happen.

Quoted from mozach:

Got the ZY combo right now. Games couldn’t be more different, but both are great.
[quoted image]

U must have GB & Maiden on your wishlist right? Have to collect every ZY hit game, because each is a special snowflake and is beautiful.

I love how the Stern super fanboys all cry “These boutique Primus/Beatles are not for us pinball collectors - they’re for Primus/Beatles fans”, then the flipper falls off after a couple of plays and the fanboys are saying “it’s not an issue, it’s not Sterns fault, it’s an easy fix, it’s part of pinball”.

How the f*ck are the “not for us Primus/Beatles fans” who’ve never had any experience fixing a pinball machine, going to fix a broken flipper bat????

#654 79 days ago

I don't think this is a major problem. Its one of the easiest and cheapest parts to replace imo.

Poor engineering and/or blind human welder assembly?

Its kinda crazy to fail right out of the box though for three people out of a small few who have the machine.

#655 79 days ago

We're streaming Primus tonight on "Bro, do you even pinball?"

Show starts at 8 p.m. Eastern. See you then!

Isn't the flipper kind of a big deal, in a pinball machine?

If you consider $8 for a part and three minutes of labor a big deal then i guess, sure man. Call it a BIG deal if you want? I wouldnt myself.

I think it is a pretty big deal since these were marketed primarily to a non-pinhead crowd. That and combined with it being the single most important physical mech in the game.

#659 79 days ago

Come on folks, they just got a bad run of parts. It can happen to any of the companies. Stern will send out another one and walk anyone through the replacement if needed. Sure it sucks, but not a big deal.

#660 79 days ago

I guess this was an issue with WNBJM and Can Crusher as well, after searching I see that.
So, yeah....it is a known issue of course and still not fixed.
To still be happening to such a high percentage of new pinball owners is kinda messed-up.
I do understand that.

But good news! Easy and cheap to fix.

#661 78 days ago

Not good when flipper set too low and scratches playfield had to mod it with a washer cause factory had too low also a score reel free spinning and wont tighten . Hoping the great people at Stern make it right as they usually do .

Mine scratch my field as well. I removed and replaced within days of setting it up.
I have same marks.

Score reel wheel came loose.
Needed to tighten set-screw

#664 78 days ago

1/16th inch hex.

All owners need this to tighten the score reels, and add lock-tight.

Loooong reach 1/16"

Mine loosened within first week of play too

#665 78 days ago

Fok those original flippers.
Throw them over a bridge and get something else ASAP

Imagine spending almost $10k on a collectible from you favorite band, then it breaks within a few days...and people are buying this from Primus, not Stern, so I'm sure they're going to feel the brunt of it. What a shit thing for the band to deal with.

Great way to introduce new people to pinball.

I notice Stern distributors are now offering Primus for sale. So the “not for us” market couldn’t absorb 100 units?!?! Or Primus got the shits and refused to take them all!?!? Who knows, but had this been a better layout rather than a lazy WNBJM reskin, they would have sold at least one more to me.

#668 78 days ago

That poor playfield, wtf.

#669 78 days ago

Brazilian Ipe wood.
First pass (roughing) done.
Now we go smaller tooling and then some 5axis to get into mouth area.

Also painting my original pull knob.
Still some more ro be done when it dries.
Then i dunk it in a thick layer of an industrial epoxy to seal it. A 2-part epoxy

Wow, no cabinet reforcement brackets with Stern's new crappy soft cabinet wood? That's asking for trouble.

Apologist. ANYONE that's been around pinball for any length of time looking at those tiny spot welds on a flipper plate knows they're going to fail sooner than later. Stern knew better. They just didn't care.

#678 77 days ago

This has one coat of epoxy done yesterday covering the paint. I'll do another coat tomorrow.

I dont remember apologizing about anything. It also makes zero sense for stern to know they will fail soon and do it anyway. It costs more as they have to provide tech support, ship new parts, etc. If the parts were identified as faulty they would send them back for replacements and not be out any extra money. Just a case of it not being noticed likely due to them using temp help for everything.

Some of you guys vilifying manufacturers like they are evil and out to screw all of use is pretty silly.

Get real. One look at those flippers should have been enough to question the source. Does Stern even have quality control anymore. If so, they need to be fired.

Two scenarios here. 1- They knew and shipped anyway. No biggie for them, just send along good flippers later and they get kudos for good tech support at least. (the factory cant just sit, and everyone gets paid when they deliver pins daily)

2 - They don't really test things fully (beyond the prototype) and trust assembly folks will catch things as they go. The operator or buyer or distributer can sort it out on the phone later and they get kudos for good tech support at least.

Does anyone see them testing pins on all the factory tours? My guess is they test quickly, find some issue, spend 15min fixing that, and whoops I'm running behind, ship it and start testing the next to keep things moving.

Lol....anothet new owner broke his first day. Just posted it on FB.

I played it at Phoenix Games in Concord. Loved it!

#686 76 days ago

Yeah it plays fine. Old classic design. I find it entertaining and no regrets me buying one.

Made a visit to pinballer31520 at the Pinball Palace today. (Can't rave enough about how awesome the collection at this free play museum is. If your driving on I-95 in the southeast, visiting is mandatory!)

https://pinside.com/pinball/map/where-to-play/10725-the-pinball-palace-brunswick-ga

Problem number one. A rubber on Primus appears to have snapped. Is there such a thing as budget rubber??

IMG_6557 (resized).jpg

Noticed another rubber next to the target was getting chewed up on this new pin. Weird! Spun the rubber around, no biggie. You can also see some playfield dimples in the photo, no biggie.

IMG_6560 (resized).jpg

Number two - no service rails, no pegs, no prop, no hinges, no NOTHING. You drag the playfield forward and just flip it straight up like a vintage Stern. (Had the playfield teetering on the plastic wire harness guide in this photo.)

IMG_6559 (resized).jpg

Got things sorted and it was game on. Down the middle, down the outlane, down the middle, rinse repeat. After a bunch of games with the music rocking, instinct kicked in.

Bang hit the lit target, nudge back to flipper, bang up the side to complete the lanes, nudge back to flipper, collect at the saucer and the pops all give a satisfying thump-thump, thump-thump as a reward. It might have something to do with me being a Primus fan, but it felt like I was in the world under glass. It pulled me in like a great pin should. Hope everyone enjoys this pin as much as I do.

Nice score mate!

You definatly have a score reel starting to come loose. Stern didnt use lock-tight for set-screws in counter reels. Most owners will probably experience a loose reel or two. Starts off as digit not centered in window amd will eventually free-spin. You will need a looooong reach 1/16th hex driver for a simple fix. Or need to remove entire assembly from machine and service on a bench.

My playing field is dimpled a lot already. Im stripping mine and coating with a super hard epoxy. Also adding led lights under all posts. Over 30 of them.

#689 76 days ago

So, this machine is at pinball palace? You were there to fix it or something? Its not yours? Right?

#690 76 days ago

Maybe the rubber Stern uses is garbage?. Two of mine splitting already and need replacement.

Silicone replacements?

.
20190106_090900 (resized).jpg

#691 76 days ago

my machine's rubber is wearing in the exact same spot. it's a high impact area, so i think any rubber that isn't silicone will show more fraying quicker than the others. i wouldn't pin the blame on stern. thankfully, it's very simple to replace most anything on this table.

#692 76 days ago
Quoted from turbo2nr:

Yeah, this is at the Pinball Palace, not mine, but wish it was. I just give the owner a hand and chat to take a break from all the play.

Grab that frayed rubber and pull it around the post at the top and bottom and rotate it so the frayed part is under the plastic and play on. Same thing you do sling rubbers that start to wear prematurely at the bottom post. You just keep rotating it.

Another pic.

IMG_6568 (resized).jpg

#693 76 days ago

I was going to swap all to silicon even before i had the machine. I expect wear and tear and broken parts. Thats normal with any machine. Of course those areas take a beating. Im not mad at all guys.

#694 75 days ago

wow, kind of shocked at all of these random issues on NIB machines. I agree with what was said above, and that lots of these issues are going to be very frustrating to the music fans that ordered Primus and/or Beatles and already have to get a tech in to help them.
