Those pictures have some kind of retro-grainy-high contrast filter applied. Note the border added as well. Looks like the seller ran it through some kind of wanted poster filter.

Just makes it look shittier because it brightens up the dirt

I wouldn't take that thing even if he gave it to me. YUCK!

From the topic title I thought this was going to be about Gary Stern.

Quoted from Otaku:

Anybody else thinking "good for him"? He knows it's not worth what he's listing it for and even said so, he has a price in mind and doesn't care how long it takes. I'd have different thoughts if he was in a hurry to sell or acting like they are worth that.

You are correct absolutely !! It is his pin and he says he is pretty much looking for a sucker. But if Craigslist was not free to use, it would cost him money to be that obstinate about it.

I emailed the guy. Offered $2500. He responded,
"Sorry just sold it today for asking price. I forgot to take the ad down."

Not necessarily, I think they need 20+ years of grit and grime to bring $3K! LOL!

Guy's s tool and ass just because he stated very clearly that his price is firm and it's higher than what anyone thinks it's worth on pinside? I enjoyed the ad - if he can get $3k on the game good for him. I appreciate the honesty on the ad. Of course it just fired people up and he's for sure still getting low offers and people flagging his post. Sigh.

"Sorry just sold it today for asking price. I forgot to take the ad down." You think this is honestly what happened? I highly doubt there is anything honest about this seller.

The problems with ads like this:

1. He probably won't get an offer anywhere near his asking price, which means a classic game that a hobbyist could love/improve or restore will sit in limbo, in this guys shed or whatever, like an unwanted foster child.
2. Even if he doesn't get near this asking price, just the fact that this price is advertised influences folks that are not collectors to think they should price theirs off the charts. This also undermines the low end hobbyists ability to get the game. It's happened to me time and again. one example is a Bally Star Trek, overall a fair condition example with a bit of road wear where the fair price could have been between $800 and $1200, and because the seller sees all these high prices thinks its worth $2000. I watched that ad pop up for months and I just shake my head.

Sure the ad sounds ridiculous and funny, but it's also sad. Sorry little Evel, I don't think anyone is adopting you very soon - You're staying imprisoned in someones storage shed.

The ad has been taken down but as I read, and re-read his text it hits me that his ad had little bits of Craigslist ads I see from all over the country

How many of you recall reading ads with overpriced pins that say things like:

I'm firm on my price
These sell for over $4000 on EBay

Was working before I put in in storage. Not working at the moment but I'm sure it is something simple like a fuse.

Playfield has normal wear for a 35 year old machine (but the pic in the just shows a crappy pic of the play field you can't see).

You all have read these kind of ads on CL.

Maybe I'm reaching but as I read this crazy ad again and again it just hit me that maybe this guy put up a spoof ad to shine a light on how nutty some these CL for sale ads are. Because, for sure, this ad compiled all the points of crappy CL ads in one fell swoop.

LOL!

I got $600 for mine and the cabinet was way better than that and worked!

There's still a ton of storage project pins --many sitting years and years with pinsiders that arguably would be better sold to someone who has time/interest to fix up, can't do much about that. Don't know if he was honest about it being sold but that would be my canned reply to lower offers than my asking if I stated multiple times I was either going to keep it or sell it at asking if someone wanted it for that.

I have a friend local here that has sold a number of pins here at prices I never thought they would sell at, simply by listing them high with the intention of keeping them if they didn't sell at those prices. Yet many people came and snatched them up.. you never know what one person might pay. I've certainly overpaid a bit on titles I wanted you don't see for sale often because I didn't want to risk losing them.
