Shopping this for a friend. Not a restoration. Not even a big deep shopping. Just a good cleaning. This game is not pretty. Playfield had the mylar pulled and lots of wear around the inserts.

So this should be a quick one...relatively.

Cool! Cant wait to see more.

#3 9 years ago

Going to be interesting to see how long this takes. Bride was the first teardown I did and it literally took me probably 3 months start to finish

#4 9 years ago

Cake for you now Geck. I'm thinking...3 hours?

Edit: Oh hey, go into that RFM thread titled..."Hillary, come here. You gotta see this."

Go to page 4 and look at all the pics of your newly painted and decaled RFM. Remember when you first got it? What a difference a little time, money and love makes in a pin.

BOP isn't too bad. I spent about a weekend stripping mostly everything off the top of the playfield to give it a thorough cleaning. Shined up pretty nicely. Mylar is in good shape, just a small wear spot in the right inlane where the ball drops. Fun pin!

Obviously we define our terms differently. Surprised to see the playfield pulled out just to clean. Maybe that's not such overkill if you already have a rotiserie.
Have fun and thanks for posting!

That's the key. I pulled my last one apart in the cabinet. Lots of wiggling around. Especially with a playfield that doesn't slide forward since it just has the pivots. Takes ten minutes to unplug everything and pop it in there and now it's nothing to work on...easy access to all sides, top and bottom!

#8 9 years ago

Much easier with the rotisserie...and maybe a few more machines under my belt for practice.

Took me maybe 90 minutes including a few drink breaks (non-adult by the way...it's Saturday morning!)

Ramps, plastics, mini playfield, lane guides, and a bunch of other stuff out.

All that's left is to pull the head and all of the posts and the ball trough and flippers.

This afternoon if I get time I will take the rest of it down.

Is it just me or is the bare head just sitting in the playfield looking kind of pornographic?

LMAO!!! My thoughts exactly! Haha.

Only 10 minutes to pop out a PF huh? RFM was 10 minutes, but a regular PF looks like a mess of wires beyond comprehension to me. I am going to restore a Hurricane soon and I hope I can figure out removing the PF. It does make things worlds easier.

Good luck the rest of the way. You're a madman with all this stuff Geck and I love it!

#10 9 years ago

Yeah. When I used to have to bring things upstairs to my old gameroom I got pretty good at doing it. Bride is also super easy since there are no funky latches or anything. The playfield is just sitting on some pivots.

Fun stuff so far, but I'm needing to adjust to just shopping and not going nuts. The owner just wants me to make it clean and super tight and solid. So beyond replacing a missing flipper coil, and a flipper rebuild kit, not a ton more will go into this. Lots of work on cleaning the playfield though. It's not pretty.

I have to keep a blanket over the bride when not in use as it freaks my wife out (the blow up doll factor). I call the blanket the Bride's modesty panel.

Since it's all apart the owner really should spring for a new mini pf while they are still available. Only $40

Yeah I put one in mine and WOW what a diff. But now with the new Comet pop light rings I'll have to tare it all apart to put them in. I think they would make the mini pf just explode with color.

Especially on this game. With the mini pf covering them it gets hot back there. I had to throw away my caps they were so bad.

Been spending a bit of time dealing with other stuff, but finally started reassembly last night. Nothing too exciting, but new star posts always make better. Man I wish I could get a nice Bride for my own collection...

Playfield looks like it cleaned up nicely. Insert wear isn't to bad either. I hope to be doing one of these soon with my BOP. I'm waiting for either a repo playfield, someone willing to restore my PF or a NOS playfield coming for sale (not going to happen).

This one is actually pretty beaten. Wear all over the place, paint peeling. When I cleaned up some of the ball trails, under the trails was just wood

The owner has mylar over a bunch of areas. The chest inserts are covered with a big sheet, and some spot mylar in other places.

Just curious, but what does a job like this cost?

#50 9 years ago
Quoted from PINBELL:

Just curious, but what does a job like this cost?

Depends on a lot of things...but anywhere from $400 up.

Depends on what's included, how far it's going to be torn down, what supplies need to be bought, pickup or delivery, what's in need of repair vs cleanup...TON of things could swing either way.
