It has been a while since I finished up a TOTAN and unfortunately some of the nicer ones I have done in the past did not get proper documentation so I did my best to capture this one.

Hopefully Chris shows off the front corners and then you may change your mind. With the new leg protection, decals installed properly are a non issue !

Awesome as usual Chris .

You don't play the decals.

Thanks Jim.We can't change Neos mind but if given the choice between big gaps, black corners and fade or nice decals?
With proper prep and protections I will take the decals.

Nope, I can't stand how fragile decals are. Seen them first hand. Seen them properly done, but the slightest bump and you got a nice white mark in them. they used to crinkle bad over time on the legs too, but now that we have those metal standoff plates, so that's eliminated. For me decals devalues the game. I would pay more for an original cabinet with slight damage, and less for one redecaled.

and it's true you don't play the cabinet. When I first started collecting I didn't give a crap about the cabinet. Over time and over the years, you start getting more and more picky about crap that doesn't matter. and you start caring about fade, backglass/translite, gouges, inside the cabinet, clean boards and all that stuff, that really doesn't mean a damn thing on how the game plays or how fun it can be.

You have a strong opinion but the new decals don't scratch unless you have a sharp screw in your pocket . I agree older decals were very fragile , not the next generation decals , they are much tougher .

#15 10 years ago

Another stunning example of how a restoration is better than new.

Overall presentation is king, but nothing beats an excellent original cab with excellent original artwork from a collectability standpoint.

NIB totans are getting hard to find .

Amazing job!

To some but there are far more people that would like an unfaded, unbeaten cabinet than ones that meet the criteria.
Was this cabinet too nice to have been stripped and decaled ?

#21 10 years ago

Neo, nobody is going to sell you a hep Totan for the $1500 you're willing to pay for one, so it really shouldn't 't bother you too much.

I know, really a downgrade from wrinkled and faded original. What a fucking travesty.

bwahahahahaaaa, really needed a good laugh!

@HEP

Beautiful work, I'd take new decals and even a new cabinet over something that has faded artwork and beat up cab.

In the end 10 old guys will own passed around originals and everyone else will own new and high quality restored .
This game looks amazing !!!

No it was obviously faded. I specified earlier "excellent original cab with excellent original artwork "....faded does not apply here

No one's opinion matters but the guy who hired you, Chris. End of story.

Insanely beautiful game, BTW.

You're just mean Chris. I went downstairs earlier and I found my TOTAN sitting in the bathroom crying. I said what's wrong and it said "I'm not pretty". Thanks a lot for the self-esteem killer...

I'd LOVE a new set of decals! One side of my TOTAN looks fantastic. The other side has a big black spray painted area where some jackleg drove a forklift through at some point. Besides, you can shoot clear over the decals and you're pretty much golden, right?

Once again, nice work HEP!

#28 10 years ago

looks insanely good! If the new MMR armour looks anything close to this TOTAN armour then those buyers will be happy.

I keep talking about getting this done to my CV. I am leaning more and more to doing this. Excellent work, Chris.

My TOTAN has been tore apart waiting on CPR to build the playfield we have all been waiting for all plating done and ready to go. I just now realized that I am ruining my restorations by refinishing cabinets and replacing decals (wait till I get ahold of the guy that charged me $700 for my IJ decals). I just finished up a MB with a cabinet from doug huse, but I still have the original cabinet semi faded with the factory CD bar drilled, it should be worth some $$$ maybe more that the new cabinet To each his own but I would rather have my games absolutely perfect in every way and to do that decals need to be done since I have never found an acceptable cabinet on any game I bought.

#39 10 years ago

Thanks once again Chris for sharing your work and passion.

There are enough TOTANs out there to make purists and high end restoration buyers happy. It's a great looking game, I'm sure its owner will enjoy it!

I want to know this too. There are a lot of stickers that seem to get replaced by HEP that I honestly have no idea where one could have gotten them, short of scanning them in place, and reprinting them.

Anyone?

i emailed chris about this but got no response. he usually is very good about things like that as he helped me with parts for my funhouse. i hope to own a totan one day !

from what Ive seen in many restoration threads, its not uncommon to scan the original stickers, clean them up, reprint them and reapply.

Great looking pin..

I wish people would bring in more beaters. From a quality standpoint that original was still in pretty decent shape lol. Chris, you got a gallery for the furthest gone pin you've restored up? I'd be curious
