Quoted from yancy:

Wow, those black standoffs make a world of difference. White ones looked so chintzy, stuck out like a sore thumb.

Yes, Monster Bash (including the remake) has a bunch of the same standoffs and they do really stand out. I'm kind of surprised that they only seem to be made in white.

Another spectacular job...

Another amazing job, well done.

So what shipping method / carrier do you use for delivering all these machines?
Have you had any significant shipping damage that destroyed all your hard work?

Also, is there a particular brand of playfield rubber that you prefer?

#6825 3 years ago

It may be a bigger can of worms, but in the end you'll have something to show for it that's even more amazing than your "normal" work.

I can understand not wanting to do this often, but as a "once in a while thing", it is pretty cool.

So, how do you normally ship these when you are done (carrier/insurance/etc)?

I would think that the danger of having your hard work be destroyed in shipping would be significant. Have any horror stories to tell?

I cringe to think of that chrome Fathom being destroyed by some fork lift somewhere.

Seeing your video of the Select-A-Card made me realize that you don't talk much about testing the machines after you complete them. Do you actually do much play-testing to make sure that the game plays well? Or do you assume that most of these will be show pieces that see little-to-no actual play?

How does the power-coating on the ball rails hold up over time?

I would be afraid that it would start wearing off after some number of plays. Or do you assume that these "showpiece" machines will not get that much actual play?

Wow, if only they had any idea - HAHA

Yeah, I know this guy that fixes pinball machines...he replaces all the rubber parts, checks the fuses, puts in new balls...all that same stuff you do...

When you finish one of your projects (like the recent IJ machines), how much of the original machine is actually part of the final result?

It seems like by the time you build a new cabinet, install a new playfield, re-do all the wiring, and replace lots of the other parts, there isn't much of the "old" machine left.

To paraphrase Plato, "if you replace the handle of an axe, and then replace the head of the axe, is it still the same axe?"
And if so, suppose you then take the old axe head and attach it to the old handle, do you now have two of the same axe?

I guess a related question would be "how complete does the old machine need to be for you to be able to restore it?"
If you are going to use a new cabinet and playfield anyway, can you start with just a big bag of boards/parts?
